EDO Performance low priority

Won't or can't? Many consider EDO unplayable without top of the line PC hardware. Console players shouldn't hold their breath.
I guess both in a way? Some won't play it because 30fps in not acceptable in 2021 and some can't because they get unwell from low frame rate stuttering. And some keep saying everything is fine, because Elite 40 years ago only had 10fps and we should be happy we are given 30 😂

If we play it more, they will fix it...

...

Unless you really like playing by yourself, exploring, and just taking nice screenshots and some pretty videos of sunsets or sunrises on thin atmospheric planets. Just avoid any settlements, avoid any on-foot combat and don't bother wasting any time doing the point-n-click exobiology.

Currently the ONLY selling point of Odyssey is the nice screenshots and videos of some choice tenuous atmospheric planets - that's it - nothing else in the entire release is worth a damn or what most players actually wanted or expected from Odyssey.
( unless you are one of the lucky one whose hardware somehow manages to cope or you are just happy to lower your settings and resolution until it's playable and ugly. )
I said that back on June 23rd
Today, August 11th ( 7 weeks later!! ) - I stand by my statement, for me nothing has changed.

7 weeks later
Seven weeks is nothing. If you think it's something, you are still quite young (however, if you think seven years is nothing, you've been around the block a few times).

To put things into perspective, 7 weeks is 35 (or less!) business days, or 280 work hours (I really hope the devs aren't doing more than 8h/day). Have we had anything to show for that 280 hours? Yes, plenty. A lot more than 280 bug fixes, tweaks, improvements, UI overhauls... and doing any of those changes takes time in a system as big as Elite, and I don't imagine just building the client is quick, so the edit, compile run, debug cycle will be slow. These things take time, a lot of time, and always more time than one would expect.

For me the issue goes beyond really poor EDO fps and a substandard gaming experience because of it. The, main issue, for me, is how hard my precious (expensive to replace) gpu is working to deliver poor fps. I do enjoy EDO, it is fun. That said, playing it on my hardware configuration has me concerned about how much life I am taking off of my system. Times being what they are, this is not a good time to expect customers like me to take all this mileage off equipment. Such is the life of a alpha tester I guess.

they should put 2060 for minimum spec ( 30-60fps) and 3090 for recommended (60+)

No, they should not, they have to fix it in order to run properly. As much as i like ED, it doesn't have anything graphically so demanding to justify this level of performance.

Considering I can get 30-60 fps (minimum) most places without trouble, even in Ultra, I have to agree.
The problem is, the performance seems to degrade over time. So while I can start out in 30-60fps in an area, after enough time (possibly including leaving and returning to the area), I wind up in 10-25 fps... in the same area. This happens even in High. I get the very strong impression of resource leaks and maybe fragmentation (which can cause slowdowns looking for available resources), or even inappropriate use of linked lists (I ran into this in my own code recently: allocating lots of memory, but due to mistakes on my part, the allocator wound up searching through an ever growing list of blocks... oops (still need to fix that, actually. I simply changed allocation schemes entirely)).

Going by the forums, GPU and CPU seem to be irrelevant, performance tanks in the end. It's actually trivial to bring any CPU or GPU to its knees. Far too trivial. The hard part is keep them on their toes.

exasperation thread about the broken lighting, shadows
I've got a pretty good system and don't do settlements and can (mostly) live with repeating tiles but the lighting / shadows is quickly killing the game for me and I was shocked it's been reported as 'fixed' in the recent stream. It feels like the game is randomly guessing how much light the player can see, and what's in shadow but keeps changing its mind.

Or 2 800 work hours with 10 devs.

Yeah, I experienced what you described yesterday when I landed on an atmo planet - contrast and brightness randomly changed, really putting me off as it keeps taking me out of the game. On top of flickering/morphing shadows and textures (all set to Ultra).

When I realised when docking at an engineer that I thought I had unlocked (a bug, I didn't, but I got the notification and it was showing in the engineer's screen that all boxes were ticked) that it wasn't, I logged off and played something more stable and coherent.

I'm wondering, if Frontier can't seem to avoid little but very obvious issues that they keep introducing (like the shield percentage indicator for planets) what are the chances that they'll be able to properly troubleshoot and address the vast number of lighting and performance issues?

I thought it was amusing that last night my nVidia driver updated and according to geForce I am no longer capable of playing the game. There is no chance in hell it will run on last gen consoles if that's true. :p fwiw I play on high and get acceptable FPS, even on my ancient rig. If they can get it running on a PS4 I should be laughing.
