Good news everyone...
I got tired of the profiler software giving me a crash window on each boot, so I dropped into troubleshootjng mode. I knew it wasn't the video card or drivers because I'd replaced my 980TI with a Titan X-P and upped the GPU drivers to the latest version. Still had the same issue.
Went through all my installed programs and uninstalled everything I was either not using or rarely using. Turned out to be the ASUS programs that had come with my motherboard. Not sure which one on this list was the issue, but removing these sped up my machine as well as an added bonus.
ASUS AI Suite II V2.04.01
ASUS Ai Charger+ V3.00.08
ASUS Update(EZ Update)
ASUS DIGI+ Power Control
ASUS EPU V1.03.22
ASUS Fan Xpert V1.01.15
ASUS My Logo V1.03.06
ASUS Probe II V1.00.51
ASUS System Information V1.02.17
ASUS TurboV EVO V1.01.53
No issues with profiler since. FYI.
I had all this crap installed also got rid of all of it and definitely notice a performance improvement on my system. I think a lot of this stuff is gimmick
