ED's Problem

It's with some reluctance that I feel the need to highlight this but for it me, it's now the core issue:

Reviewers often praised the game's art and presentation, but had complaints about the perceived underdeveloped gameplay, weak writing and inaccurate controls.
It also appeared on numerous lists of the worst <franchise> games ever developed.
Journo of outlet felt that the game was simply a collection of minigames instead of the larger "epic fans are dying for."
"It doesn't matter who you claim the game is for, it's a shoddy product on almost every level.

Poor reviews included outlet citing bad level designs, shallow and stereotypical characters, quirky AI reactions, and a "stupid plot."
"this year's most significant gaming disappointment."
"horrible plot, weak gameplay mechanics and visuals that are truly underwhelming."
"citing examples of bland gameplay and graphics"

These review comments are not reviews of ED.
But they have a direct and causal link to what I now perceive to be the core problem with ED and its development direction.

There's a pattern of performance that doesn't look like it will change any time soon.

Random pieces of writing about an unspecified game, with no provenance.

I should take this seriously?

They should. Because it matches the feedback I got from friends how picked it and droped in with a month.
Stuff along the line of :
"They ignored the 10 last years of MMO developpement"
"It's a bunch of minigames stiched together without internal consistency"
"Korean MMO grind without raiding" <= my favorite. Very accurate too.

There's a pattern of performance here that resonates with how I feel about ED at the moment and its general direction.

Thankfully they are upgrading these issues this year. Trading being one of them, which looks great. Exploration and mining in Q4.

I've been particularly negative today in some of my posts about Thargoids and a little well known nerf but this I don't agree with. ED has problems but none are game breaking, more like scratches on an over all well polished item. Without knowing the origin of the review, I am going to make an assumption here that the reviewers weren't ED players. More like a person handed a game and told to submit something in a couple of weeks. A lot of modern games are very easy to get into and after two weeks you may have really enjoyed it but give it a couple more hours and you've probably completed/prestiged/bossed it with every collectable.

Yeah, Elite is a little tricky to get into and a lot of mechanics are hidden so well that it might seem like they aren't even there. The result is this famous comment: "It's a galaxy wide and only an inch deep". To that I say, look a little harder and you'll realise there is plenty to do. 600 hours in and I haven't covered or seen half of it. The community will probably always be smaller than most and will lose many shortly after they join but it's the longevity that brings me back each time so ED has got it right (in my opinion). It doesn't panda to you and doesn't care what you think... that's why I love it.

His answering grin is scorching, completely in tune with the hunger in his eyes. Again I catch my breath, thrilled to my core when his low tone washes over me, “you’re a rare beauty Anastasia, I cannot wait I’ve clung to the memory of what you feel like.” He runs the back of his hand down my cheek, then lovingly traces the line of my jaw with a knuckle.

Why can't Elite be more like this!!??!!

Wait, what. These comments you quoted aren't even about ED? So what you really mean is, 'here are some words and I think they apply to my opinion of something else'. I Feel like this whole thread was a little misleading and that using your own words to express your opinion may have been better.

What game are the quotes in the OP referring to? .. 'Cos with things like "bad level designs, shallow and stereotypical characters, quirky AI reactions, and a "stupid plot." and "horrible plot, weak gameplay mechanics and visuals that are truly underwhelming."
"citing examples of bland gameplay and graphics"

It's clearly not Elite Dangerous.

There's a direct causal link between those reviews and the issues I see with ED.

I could be less obtuse but I do feel it would break at least one forum rule.

That should have been pointed out clearly in the original post. Now it feels like dealing with alternative facts. And yes, Elite will not match everyones taste, nor
it is the MMO many do expect upfront. But if you can accept exactly this it can hold a lot for you.

Nope, found them via google. The first is a review of that well known FDev Franchise 'Kinect Star Wars' and the second is some game called 'Haze' whatever that is. This is just straight up trollism and I can't be bothered to continue with it. See ya.
