On XBox it'll be a PITA as you can't copy/paste, but in a nutshell:

1. Log in to EDSM and open the page of the system you're in at the moment. Eg, "Beagle Point"
(It's better from an obscure system, ideally far away from one of the really popular systems)

2. Click on the "Distances" tab.

3. Click on "Generate needed distances" or "Generate featured systems"

4. Open the Galaxy Map in-game

5. For each system in the "Distance To" column, type in the name of the system, wait for the Galaxy Map to scroll to it, then enter the distance in the "ls (in Ly)?" column

6. Click "Submit new distances"

7. Profit?

Hi, I visited a planet ABCDEFGH 1 A and someone told me that I should submit it to EDSM. But I found it because of EDSM, so — thank you! That all said, I think I finally worked out what they mean — at https://www.edsm.net/en/statistics/bodies/planets they were joking that I should have a listing for "Furthest from A" which, honestly, is both probably-true (I only checked ~20GB of JSON for 6+ body barycenters) and definitely-false (It's planet A). I don't know if this is the best place to report this sort of thing, but I've just visited the Footie AA-A g0 system, which has 13 bodies listed in EDSM, but only 9 in the game. The extra EDSM bodies are: "F 3", "F 4", "F 5", and "F 6".

No worries. EDSM is doing pretty well, and everyone who was using EDSC as a source for coordinates or for submitting distances should take a look at our API doc to switch to the EDSM API. Submitting distances is pretty easy if you were used to EDSC because the submitted parameters are identical.
If you miss some function in the API for querying some information, feel free to ask.

Edit: CMDR Anthor was generous and booked the domain edsm.net - EDSM resides there, now. Tnx to him! The new API & web FE is in place. All old API calls are redirected & reformatted, so all tools using the old API should still work with the new API, and will probably do in future. Take a look, it has become very nice: EDSM - the place to search for coordinates and dump distances.

I have looked high and low where to contact edsm with little luck to report issues. This should really be properly addressed. Factions and systems haven't been reporting accurately especially since inara and edsm changed how the dashboards updates occur. The updates are way too slow and don't fully import all the correct information. This makes third party bots virtually useless. EDSM even refusrs to display correct info. even after import through dashboard while in said system. Three to four ticks and still inaccurate.

Dumb question which has come up recently: I have an EDSM account and export my logs. Besides other things it tells me how many ELWs I first discovered. I also got the badge.
Is there any way to find/fetch the list of system names, which I first discovered (data are sold)? At the moment it tells only a number of systems/bodies first discovered.

The question came up from a PS4 user, who cannot use tools like EDDiscovery, but can upload to EDSM.

I'm working on a project to calculate the best places to grind imperial or federation rank on a week-by-week basis, for which I need data on populated systems, stations and minor faction data.

I've found the nightly dumps on EDSM for the systems and stations... but there's no dump for minor factions. I could use the API, but I need all the minor faction data for every populated system.

Will the API return all data if I call the link without sending any criteria? Calling the API for every populated system seems as if it would be unnecessarily time consuming. Or is it possible to get nightly dumps of minor faction data too?

Since it looks like you didn't get a reply here, I would note that the information you're looking for is available at eddb.io/api in the nightly populated systems dump. Note that factions are only referenced by numeric ID in that file, so you'll also need to grab the factions file the first time (it should only change when new factions are added).

Interresting, because the nightly dump of the populated systems does contain all the factions per system.

Is it possible to search EDSM for certain planet types?

As an example search for metal rich terraformable in the EDSM database.

All I can see is search a system, but I want to search for a certain type of planet.

Is there any plans for a feature that will allow you to plug in co-ordinates (equatorial and galactic) and return near by systems? This would be so, so useful!
