Notice EGX Paintjob Codes (and the forums) - how to use them!

Invalid keys all... by which i presume it means, valid but someone else got them first.

*sigh*

Can the keys at least be removed once they have been claimed? They keep sitting there, taunting me.

agree - totally pointless them staying there... or does it give fDev hit counts or summit-techy-web-cred-wise ? - I feel a victim and violated..and just plain foolish

This is great fun although I've not been lucky yet. Does anyone have a pic of what the code can be redeemed for (e.g. a pic of the ship skin)?
Also, I've heard that one of the codes that is going to be posted up will wipe your cmdr save.*.

*:This is untrue.

So I come back to my computer after cleaning up the kitchen and suddenly there are 5 minutes old invalid keys everywhere.

FB ones had an extra character in them, just like forum's yesterday ones did. Did twitter ones have it too?

Yes.

Uh, I thought it was a known fact if you post codes in the open like this, the bots will get them first. It would be probably better if they were just randomly attributed to accounts.

You'd need to explain how a bot could effectively harvest these for a profit (and why actual users still managed to fetch them)?

out of 800k sales, I bet only 50k or so actually play the game any more after seeing how little it has to offer. And of those, there are a ton that have no interest in wearing someone else's clothes. I know, I am one, and my wife is one and my friend across the street is one...etc.

lol that (Uh, I thought it was a known fact if you post codes in the open like this, the bots will get them first. It would be probably better if they were just randomly attributed to accounts.)would make sense and go against the SOP at frontier

I don't think he implied for profit?

You could write a Python or Perl script that could poll this forum every couple of seconds and spot the new codes and then immediately notify the user with a list.

Well I don't know about the use of bots in grabbing the codes but I do know I was present when they first went up at 6 pm BST and copied a few of them as fast as I could onto the redeem screen. It took barely a second if that but no luck here. FD might as well take them down again as I tried everyone of them. Congratulations though to those of you out there who were fast enough :)

So if I've understood this right, having logged into the Forum this evening and seen a block of nine codes popup, if I wasn't the first to find those nine codes and access them earlier in the day then I've got zero chance now. I fail totally to see the point of this. The first person seeing these nine codes would spend 60 seconds to copy/paste the lot. This seems a very poor way to distribute the 'wealth' of the game.

I'm sorry if similar appears in the first 20 pages of this thread. It's friday evening, after a very long week at work and I just want to blast some pirates for an hour with a glass of merlot, catch up on Bake Off and then head to bed. That said, if I've correctly understood the free skins approach it's incredibly lame IMHO, although I'm sure FD thought it was a good idea at the time.

As an aside, I did purchase some extra skins a few weeks ago, simply because I felt I wanted to contribute more to the game than my modest KS donation two years' ago. It not that I NEED any further free skins, but getting a reasonably fair crack at them would be nice. On seeing that block of nine codes I thought everyone might be getting nine skins, but that's clearly not the case. A nice gesture by FD has instead backfired and left me feeling jaded. Not great PR chaps and chapesses!

I won't be wasting more time copy/paste any further codes if they popup on login; simply not worth my limited time.

That's fine though? Doesn't make the user any faster redeeming it. Also still just one redeem per account.

all i keep reading on twitter is that the codes are all used within like 5 seconds. Which yeah probably means bot. Ether way, when i learned this, i stopped bothering.

A draw would have seemed more fair.

anybody knows what that paint job looks like anyway?

It would be a little pointless if a single bot could snaffle up multiple codes for the same account, seeing as the codes are for the same thing and (presumably) non-transferable. I kinda hope that Frontier have limited codes to one per account!

Nope.

Also congrats on your clipper there.

Thanks! i worked for months for this so it DOES feel like an accomplishment! Though it was considerably shortened once i started doing PP..... fortune before PP: 17 mils. After a month of PP: 173 mils. Now down to 33 or so though. I don't buy a ship until I have the money to fully kit it and i never sell any former ships and what they're equipped with so that's why it took so long.

Next goal....probably Python. About 140 mils to go...

Giving you all a heads up... the forums first batch of codes for today will be active in 15 minutes (or whenever the server thinks it is 6PM BST/1PM East USA - which should be in about 15 minutes). :)

(edit: There's a second batch that will be available at around 11PM UK, 5PM East USA.)
Just a update, the second batch for the forums today will be going out in about 10 minutes from now, an hour ahead of time. Trying something... a little different with the codes this go around since people have scraper bots active. :)

(Yes, I can see those shenanigans!)
