Eliite Dangerous Navigation computer lacks a brain

Why doesnt "futuristic" Elite Navigation have the basic features of my car.

Like recalling "last route"

Like "Favourite Route" list

Like plotting preferred "waypoints"

I'm sure this is raised before but boy who bought the deal on this Nav computer it sucks, he / she should should go back to sales school and do an itern in motor industry.

This is supposedly set in the future surely the NAV computer would have some "Smarts"

I like the game but there are some dumb areas in it

Consider it an ALTERNATIVE future, where the Internet as we know it, and GPS navigation things as we know it were never thought of.

never happen as long as there are males in the population who refuse to ask for directions.

more likely the game was designed on the original "Elite" but with better play and graphics and that universe did not consider the growth and adoption of technology.

I think for Elite and Dangerous to survive long term it has to adopt better technology innervation in game.

The route planner is currently at "initial implementation" status and has not been in the game long at all. It will probably get a second/third pass once more important things are out of the way. I think FD considered it a minor feature to be added later but many screamed for one in beta when the bubble got bigger so they brought the initial implementation forward. I would have preferred FD work on more important things as route planning isn't hard but oh well.

Many seem to forget that ED has had a fairly short dev cycle so far (2 years and a fraction of the cash Star Citizen has) compared to pretty much any AAA game you can name so a lot of features jostled for priority. I doubt there is a single feature that isn't going to be revisited.

The nav software, starting from the map, just sucks. I hope they will redesign it very quickly. It makes the game unplayable sometimes. +1

micheal brookes posted the 15th jan development update - within the next 3-4 weeks we will have a route plannter that can plot a path 1000LY rahter than the limited amount now, u will also be able to save a limited amount of plotted courses.

In the future there will be other options added, everything in this game is a palceholder at the moment and everything is being expanded slowly and built upon

3rd party softwares can plot a route hundreds of LYs long in a matter of milliseconds.

The answer to everything seems to be this, which is confusing for people who thought they were going to get a release grade game.

Not an unreasonable expectation, but in the last 5 years beta release at launch is pretty much how gaming development now is.

It isn't right but the industry has realised that they can make money during testing and there are actually people stupid enough to pay, which is somewhat of a recent cynical market development and an evolution in capitalism.

H1Z1 is $20 for alpha and people have paid for it to have not much to do.

Planetary Annihilation was $100 early access and they never finished it, you can get it for $5 now. They asked for $1.5m for their next game and didn't get it. Good.

Planetside 2 hasn't developed past beta TDM in 2 1/2 years and they consider t shirts and $25 for a name change to be major improvements. Development of objectives and gameplay is not even on the radar, the 'patches' consist of continual weapons balancing.

I have only ever bought BF3 and this preorder and Talisman Digital season pass. All 3 were based on nostalgia, BF3 never delivered and the other 2 are 'in development'. Never again, even if it means never playing a game less than 5 years old, which is what I would expect this to take to get to how it should be, if ever.

Child please, that is weaksauce bro. Mapping out hyperspace jumps and navigating astrogation charts is something that computers do. Taxi drivers can survive without GPS technology, they did for many years before the age of smart phones. Plotting a course 100's of light years through space is much different than "recall" where you're going.

Op makes a valid point, if you type a known system into the navigation system, your nav computer should be able to to pull it up and plot a course for you. What good is it otherwise?

Y'all assuming that everything in the future will be better than what we have now, but who knows what can happen to us? What kind of natural disaster we may face, or what kind of destruction a War can bring. Knowledge can easily be lost, our lifetime is too short.

The computer doesn't have to have "smarts" maybe it is a basic computer with only basic routing, maybe you even have to hit it a few times to work properly, like an old TV. Just because you are flying a spaceship things don't need to be fancy.

The Idea of a perfect future where everything is better than what we have now is really....boring.

Just my two CRs.

Yeah, "maybe we should get out and push".

In the future, Man has evolved and is able to "recall" where he was last time, unlike on the present that he needs computers to remember for him.

But you have to admit, it would be nice to have the place I was last time, or the preferred route, on page one of the three page list of systems I could possibly jump to.
You know, convenience and all that.

:)

On page 3? I'd pay for that. Sometimes the destination falls completely off the list.
