Do you want a new Elite Badge

And what happened to the Elite Elders? Have they been reformed or cloned, can I apply to be one:D

I think the photo of David B and Ian Bell would make a great caption competition..."He's got my Elite badge...and sweater...dang"

Am I allowed to answer the question about the Elite Elders and enter the caption completion at the same time...

When asked about a reunion the Elite Elders responded. "I think it’s quite unlikely but if there was a cause that was sufficient, perhaps a Thargoid invasion and we felt we could make a real difference to a particular situation, hopefully we would do the decent thing."

1985

If my aging memory serves me well, I received my badge in 1985.
Now, as if to demonstrate my onsetting senility, I need to try to work out how to upload the photo....

PFS... get hunting for that badge and join the 8

I got the original Elite badge pin with the black background for $5.00 on eBay years ago. Now it's worth $300.00? No matter as it is an emotional thing. I won't give it up.

Not sure if it has been asked before. But how did they keep track of who got Elite status? You had to send in a picture or something?

I remember achieving Elite status on Elite Plus for the PC but that was almost a decade after the game first came out so no deal for me. Most I got in Frontier was Dangerous I believe so I guess my Elite - Dangerous pin I got when I ordered the game fits :)

I believe that required considerably fewer kills (although I ain't certain, it would fit with my experience of Elite Plus).

I think you may be right. I had gotten it also in the Amiga version now that I think and that one took what felt significantly longer to get to it.

When you saved the game it gave you a code, not dissimilar to the one you get when activating the game now.

In the (BBC) box was a postcard, you wrote your details on the back and the code. Sent it to Acornsoft. Wait...

There was a time limit, and I made it to Deadly by the time limit. I seem to recall I was sent a t-shirt and a letter confirming my rank.

I was awarded both a black/silver elite badge and a T-shirt. Unfortunately both long since lost.

Wish I could find the badge, emailed the parents to see if they can locate it, but I haven't seen it for 25 years!

In 1986 Firebird Software in the U.K. held an Elite Tournament. The player started from scratch, and had 2.5 hours to reach the highest combat rating, and most number of credits possible. Thousands of players participated from many countries around the world. No one ever posted the results as the Internet was just getting started.

I did the Elite status for years as no one else per FD or the games distributors ever considered it. Here's the website:

The Order of Elite

Now that FD is getting serious about Elite I expect them to take over this job. But we are in early Beta and I don't see an Elite status per number of kills or advancing in military ranks with a specific alliance getting more lucrative missions to accomplish. So we will see. For now let's just open up the galaxy and let us explorers travel. I could care less about more ships.

That's cool also I must have visited your site a million times in the past. Great to see so many members of the old guard who kept the interest alive throughout the years with their sites and effort. Hopefully I'll run again into my old friend Zat Solo as well.

As far as I recall, I had to send off a letter, quoting the encrypted code number that the game gave me when I reached Elite status.

A picture... that would have meant going to the chemist to get your film developed and waiting for a week :)

It was more like postal chess, every game save generated a code which when decoded gave them your kill count and status etc.

Firebird kept league tables going by post for the first 5 months by requesting your latest code.

9 becomes 10

My son is playing Elite dangerous and I'm still unsure if I should commit my remaining days playing this again..
I'm an old original Elite player who achieved the elite status before the expiry date on the postcard provided and received the black and silver badge from acornsoft, but alas no T-Shirt.

I currently don't have privilege's to post links so I am unable to put up a picture of my Elite badge.
