Elite Dangerous 2.4 - The Cutscenes.

Really I can't wait for more amazing cutscenes with alien ships. Watching it on youtube is one (and only) of my favourite things related to aliens in Elite.
What do you think, maybe I should watch before it, system jump loading screen for few hours to make it more immersive? ;).

Let's harvest some salt about 2.4!

Lets complain about things that we don't even know what will be in 2.4 as they must be bad and wrong, etc etc because Salt

I don't quite follow myself, seems to be some form of perceived badge of honour or something, what all the cool kids do for some reason no one really understands.

But makes the OP feel validated so replying here is my good deed of the day.

But to the OP's point: what do you expect FDev will do? What type of gameplay mechanic will they use for the Thargoids? If you expect something that's not already in the game then, well, don't get your hopes up as to date FDev have done nothing but used the cut-n-paste technique for these incremental releases. You know it's likely going to be cut scenes along with NPC ships that are now 'dressed' like Thargoid ships. and players will rinse and repeat, and reset the action by exiting and entering an instance. This is what the game is designed to do.

It's almost as if it's a game and they can't literally create alien life.

This guy gets it. Have some rep for realistic expectations.
People thinking Thargoids will bring more to the table than a simple reskin of conflict zones and a few more engineer blueprints are highly delusional. We'll wait and see how things play out ;)

I really tried to find a correlation to the topic and a meaning in your post. Nope, couldn't find any.

If it's all that bad why not go play something else?

Or like, at least wait until there's something to complain about before you start complaining.

No, you're doing it wrong. You should complain both before and after the fact, in order to maximize your complaining time. That way, when you are old and grey and looking back over your life, you'll be able to honestly say that you spent as much time complaining as humanly possible.

I enjoyed both the hyperdiction and barnacle "refuelling" scripted events. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the aliens' behaviours in 2.4 and beyond.

How would you have preferred the gradual alien reveal to be presented?

More persistent effects. Crashed ships, damaged/destroyed stations/outposts. Communication beacons, maybe with audio files perhaps with accidental recording of Thargoid communications.
There are lots of things that could be done beyond a very arbitrary RNG laiden hyperdictin scenario. I'd also be OK with major story progression evens being told via cut scenes, even if those cut scenes are on youtube.

My take on it is more themed CG's with a lot of unique hand crafted USSs and maybe a few galaxy changing events.
I think the arms race is going to be CG driven.

Thats not what I want , nor what I hope for. but setting expectations low is what I do with every game , and with elite from the very start it helps a lot.
I hope for more but only time will tell.

It's almost as if creativity and engaging, thought-out play mechanics are out of the question.

Ditch the RNG.

I've decided to have no expectations, re The Return. That way minimises disappointment. It's months away anyway.

Might as well just get with enjoying the game - as is - for now.

But I realise there are a bunch of us who would rather foam at the mouth in anticipation, or moan & perhaps make sarcastic comments about how awful it is clearly going to be.

And this is the place for that contest! The real question on everyone's mind is surely who will win the forum battle? Pozzers v Neggers?

And are either sides using exploits to gain advantage? Some of the moans sound suspiciously like god-rolled G5 upgrades, and yet some of the hyperbole from the other side is clearly a fully-loaded Quince trip. Could both sides end up disappointed? Or happy? It's a topsy-turvy galaxy, to be sure!

I have fresh tea.

This not a salt post,

but in 2015 we need to grind for ships
in 2016 we needed to grind for engineer modules that not are strong enough for the Thargoids so in
2017-2018 we need to grind for new weapons and modules for the thargoids

As long as there's heavy rng, 'scripted events' instead of playable content, reskinned 'alien' npcs and a dreary grind doing the same old stuff to get alien weapons then I'm sure we'll feel satisfied that FD have persevered (despite those nasty naysayers) with their own, distinctive style of computer program making.
