I have to admit, I'm glad there is a no name and shame rule as I don't have any respect for the person who did this and I would rather not know who they were. They should have made the decision to self-destruct, not sell the data and claim first discovery.

I was planning to do the one-way trip later this year but I won't bother whilst there is a CMDR's name on some of the systems there, especially as they weren't the first person to go there.

Shame as it has tainted the whole Distant Stars trip. Thankfully the rest of the CMDR's on that trip are honorable.

Interesting thread.

I'm not one of those who went on Distant Stars (in fact I'm hoping to join in soon) but I can understand how some might feel about this. Myself, I have no plans to return in one piece, just a plan to go there and stay until I can hitch a lift back home from a Thargoid. It'll mean much more wandering about, perfecting my SRV skills and even more CQC to pass the time.

I don't have much in the way of a solution to offer, but it'll be interesting to see how this develops. I wouldn't go for the exploration payments or first discoveries, but I just wouldn't mind hanging onto the information on planets and systems, for my own personal in game map purposes.

With a little bit of co-ordination, it could have been a good 'bring them home CG' akin to the Martian :)

We have a 'build a station' CG
If successful, Frontier spawn Ocellus/Orbis (whichever is the one that has drives) at the closest station.

Another CG to 'fuel it' with players having to donate hydrogen fuel to the station
It 'jumps' (is moved) into the cluster.

CG to build a planetary outpost in the cluster. (Note: station has mining lasers in outfitting)
This outpost if successful sells hydrogen fuel

Another CG to refuel the station as previous
If successful It 'jumps' back after a given time back to its original point

Note: Anybody docked at either time it moves is brought with it, allowing rescuers to enter the cluster with mining rigs and to enable people to evacuate.

Seriously, how much more awesome and narrative driven would that have been than god mod teleportation?

I would not mind being Matt Damon in The Martian, although I might end up as Matt Damon in Interstellar. :p

But seriously, I could do with an excuse to play more CQC and get to Elite in that...

I see two options:
Remove the tags, we all move along.

FDev change the "discovered by X" tag, to the first person that tagged a body, regardless of whether they sold the data [yet] or not.

Beyond this, this is absurd. People like this should absolutely have their name wiped off those stars etc. because they knew what they signed up for and were getting into. This is BEYOND inconsiderate to the entire community to abuse Frontier Support like this.

I think you got it backwards? Saving the entire human race and time traveling to the future is better than being stranded on a planet and needing rescue, no?

I voted I don't care because I really don't care who has their name on a star or planets, I can't remember the last time I even gave the name on the info bubble a second glance. It's a non issue to me, if this is your biggest problem with how the game is being run then you should jump in your ship, get first scan on as much as possible and write up a ticket to make sure to have your name placed on an imaginary star system.

Please stop posting awesome posts i cant rep you anymore...

I agree that we need to determine the true facts but it does ound more like a low class player move to me. To get your name on something a player needs to sell the data, no matter how they get back to a station.

A similar thing happened on the Distant Worlds Expedition. If you remember the bug that was causing SRV''s to explode for no good reason, for a while FD was teleporting people back to the bubble to allow them to replace lost SRV''s, then teleporting them back where they were. There were CMDR''s who sold the data they had accumulated before being teleported back. I felt the same way about that when it was happening as it just seemed like a low thing to do. Even though the opportunity came about due to a known bug, it was player decision to take advantage of the situation.

Frontier support beaming them back from the one way trip is the absolute stupidest thing they could have done. Are they utterly incapable of thinking through the implications or repercussions of their actions?

Why bother playing the game at all if I can just ask support to do whatever I want for me? Maybe I should just ask them to drop me off inside the cluster, then bring me home once I've charted it, and maybe have a nice cup of tea waiting for me at my home station.

Just as the official DSE rep, I'd just like to say that a) AH Cancri was tagged using the neutron double jump thing, seems legit but ultimately that's FD's decision which I believe they are reviewing now. b) The other two or three people who have tags got it because they blew up and support couldn't move them back, so just moved them back outside the cluster, and gave them their data without being asked (as is routine for them - they didn't know about the full details of the no-return element of the expedition - they deal with hundreds of tickets a day). AFAIK these guys emailed back and mentioned it but nothing was done so they handed in. But again, FD are reviewing it.

Anyone who says anything that contradicts the above is either speculating (and is wrong) or is flat out lying. There is no collusion with FD in this, it is all the result of the above. I strongly suggest the speculation and misinformation stops now, otherwise I think we should lock the thread until FD get back with their decisions.

Just to clarify further:
There is currently known to be 2 "taggers" one of which only tagged 2 systems this person has apologized, and one who's tagged an unknown number of systems

Distant Stars does not condone any of these actions. Those who say otherwise is either misinterpretating or lying. Again i will link this image of the reply i obtained on reddit from one of the "taggers"
Again his/her name has been removed for privacy purposes

My strictly personal opinion thinks that this was partly a mishandling on FD customer support by not doing their research but of course also wrongdoing from the individuals that sold the data. I wish not to have any of the "taggers" banned or punished, but i think the tags should be removed as they are illegitimate.
