Should discovered byu tags be removed from m67 star cluster

It's a big achievement to reach those places.

It's a wonderful gesture from FD. And it's simply wrong. The first discovery tag is: got there and returned home first. Coming home is as much part of the challenge than getting there.

If something can't be done in-game FD shouldn't play around it. Simple. It's cheating or exploiting (mostly from FD). It's wrong. Simply wrong.

A perfectly balanced judgment. Well done.

Worrying about a few system tags with millions of systems still unexplored? I don't care. I don't compete with other players nor do I care about their status, achievements and how they got them. If someone finds a ch that makes their game play more enjoyable then more power to them. Worrying about how others play the game by their own fairness standards is way overdone on this forum.

So you would'nt care if you wake up tomorrow and all 400 billion star systems are tagged by a cheat. or better still someone tags a system you discovered still dont mind, well your a very easy going fellow and for the record there are billions left not millions but that is not the point simply put without rules there can be no game and no mmo developer in there right mind allows cheating of the rules.

But it's still a rumor at this stage lets see the facts first, may be just a ch we all know the game is full of them right now.

I'm just pointing out that the discovered by tags may quite easily have been obtained by people that made their own way back...

i wonder if the CMDRs who have their name out there will weigh in and say which it is (tho even then FD then also need to confirm if the double jump is an intended feature and is here to stay, in which case fair enough, or if it is an unintended bug which needs to be fixed - in which case of course the players involved should not be penalised..... but the systems should have their data removed as well ;)

I would like the tag to be there as soon as a system is discovered anyway, regardless of the data sale later on. After all, if anyone gets into a system after another explorer who either disappeared or got destroyed in the bubble before selling the datas, that anyone is still second, and has not, in fact, discovered the system.

Now I can understand the logic behind this mechanic, in its attempt to mimic what would happen in real life. You'd have to bring proof and a chart for your discovery to be recognised. Fair enough. But then why make this kind of exception? This is like saying "we make rules but they don't really matter/apply to everyone just the same". And I personally feel this has been a growing trend in the game for some time now.

Also, what about that: the game evolves, they decide to add more tools and expand on the jump technology. Woohoo! Now we can move to those distant clusters and come back to tell the tale. Oh wait. Magical dev intervention has already spoiled this for us.

I don't blame the player or Support. The ticket was filed in good faith, and the support rep likely just tried to be nice by leaving the data intact without realising the ramifications of doing that in this case. But at the same time, it doesn't really feel right to leave it the way it is now.

I think tagging the entire cluster as discovered by the Distant Stars Expedition would be a nice gesture.

There is a way back from that cluster - however some may class it as a "glitch". Dr Kaii demonstrates how to do it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apYNwGjwcB0&t=0s

That will only allow you to return from the first system after Point Decision. Once you jump again into the cluster proper there's no going back.

Wait so before we all start to get rather heated about this - was it actually the case that FDEV moved one or two folks back to where they could return from the journey? Or was it done in a ship by 'utilising' the two-Supercharges trick?

Can someone tell me what's going on?

They went to great lengths to organize this expedition and to find a way there. They went accepting that it would be a one way mission, without any expectation that FD would help them out in any way beyond perhaps recognition in a newsletter, or perhaps a decal like happened with Distant Worlds.

That FD decided to do this i think was a wonderful gesture. Their names will now remain there as the first to reach those systems, a wonderful achievement.
I don't have a horse in this race but I think it's pretty crap of FD to arbitrarily gift people achievements that are simply not possible to achieve without outside help from the developer. That just urinates all over the players that spent time and effort getting these achievements the legit way by using only what is in-game. I guess they shouldn't bother now and should instead just pull out a beggers tin, shoot off an email to Frontier support and go, "Pwease gift me this achievement senpai. Pwetty pwease."

If we're gonna do things this way I might as well pick a direction, jump out there as far as I can until I run out of fuel and then call FD and ask for my name to be stamped onto the system I ran out of fuel in. Makes a bit of a mockery of exploration in this game doesn't it?

In the future, FD might increase jump ranges or give us other ways to get to that cluster. Would be a shame if those who came later could tag the systems that others had already been to and scanned.
They didn't actually come back from those systems though - FD God modded them back. If jump ranges are further increased some day then the guy/gal who makes it there and actually comes back from the trip via playing the game (hilarious concept, I know. Actually playing the game to get an in-game achievement - preposterous!) then they deserve to tag those systems, they actually did the full slog rather than half-there, other half was gifted by the devs.

Also, small side note, but once you have a scanned an object/system, and died, you can't go back and rescan it, because its already known to you. So, should it, in future, become possible to get there and come back, they would not be able to try and be the first to tag what they first discovered.

At the end of the day, if it bothers you so much, why were you not on this expedition in the first place?
I presume it bothers him because FD are arbitrarily cheating/bypassing their own exploration mechanic. Literally moving the goal posts on a whim. Perhaps FD should just change the way rescanning after having died works instead of gifting this to players that have not yet earned it the legit way.

All this being said, did FD actually gift these systems to a player or did the player actually make the full trip there and back again? Needs confirmation one way or the other.

Well, I for one, am working off the OP specifically stating he asked on the Distant Stars discord and was told [so he claims] that Frontier has moved CMDRs to a location from which they can return under their own steam. It could all be a harmless mistake on Support's part mind you....

When getting stuck in most online games, support will usually move you to safety. The issue here isn't so much getting stuck, but rather intentionally getting stuck. Whilst everyone on the Distant Stars expedition should have been well aware it was likely a one way trip, in many other cases, it's all to easy to get unintentionally stuck inside a system.

I'm not saying whether or not Frontier should actually step in and help, just that in other online games when people get trapped due to game mechanics - support will usually help out. So in this case, isn't it really a question of whether Frontier should be helping people that intentionally got stuck?

(Assuming Frontier actually did move them in this case - as there are in-game ways to get back).

ok so my 2p - not that its wanted ;) - if unfinished game mechanics or totally unpredictable consequences by using the in game tools or a bug means someone gets themselves in strife then FD should absolutely help out (however any unique gear / stuff or in this case naming rights) which were gained at the same time as this glitch should be removed.

but if it is down to the player making an error by not route planning properly and getting stuck or deliberately doing it to get somewhere they know they cant get back from, then the answer to the decision "should FD magically help them" is exactly the same as whether FD should reimburse players with ships etc that get destroyed in valid in game actions.

Awaiting any certainty, lets argue the principle of the matter.

2 things. I died a some time ago, but had some ELWs noted in me notebook. I went back and could scan them and sell them and they now got my tag.

Second, a discovery is made when the knowledge is brought back to the cartographers. Not when it's scanned. This has been this way from the beginning of time.

Yup! The game's unplayable now.
They've gotten their names on stuff that I will most likely never visit and that has ruined my experience and gameplay.

You can do the 219 ly jump twice there and back, but you can't do the 219 ly jump, then go explore the cluster and then jump back as you would have used the super charge on first jump in side the cluster you can't save super charge. There is no neutron stars there to super charge in the cluster. You can scan that one system (AH Cancri) and then travel back, but not go to other system and then jump back.

And here is the question: which systems/bodies specifically have been tagged that should not be?
