Thanks. Looks like they changed that then. It used to be it wasn't possible to scan them.

I think we need to now wait and see what the results of Brett's investigation are. I'm still fine with it happening, i've got nothing wrong with FD recognizing special achievements in a special way. But if it was a mistake by support, people can at least put their pitchforks away.

Will try to, but things like this take some time to fully check into.
I can tell you with certainty that the OP's claims are accurate. I know of one player who did this, but it was not done with intent. Basically, they were trapped in the cone of a White Dwarf with a busted canopy. They logged out and submitted a ticket to be moved away from the cone. Instead of waiting for support, however, they self-destructed and then completed the climb a second time later that day. Three days later, they found themselves moved back to a system in the Cancri Climb which meant they could return to a base to sell data for tags. There was about 15 minutes of discussion but we had no idea what they chose to do.

Guess we do now.

Frankly, as one of the souls in M67 who knew this was a one way trip, I vote for removing the tags.

Not to take anything anything away from the Distant Worlds folks for their contribution to the ED community. But this is not acceptable in any way imaginable. Everyone who went their knew it was a one way trip, and FD should not "reward" them for being willing to blow up an Anaconda.

If this was something that was somehow virtually impossible to do, then I could be more understanding. But anyone with 200mil and Farseer unlocked to lvl5 can make this trip. Unless FD is going to let all explorers keep their data if killed, then this should not have happened.

I would give them a custom decal for their efforts, and a "way to go" write up in galnet. But that's it, and certainly not their name on any place they did not return from, and actually sell the data.

Not worth getting into a lather over, but I like to think FD applies its rules consistently and has a good reason for departing from them (if that is what happened). Can we hear from FD on this?

They're looking at it. Meanwhile we'll just go around in circles until page 36 when a mod steps in.

Also, small side note, but once you have a scanned an object/system, and died, you can't go back and rescan it, because its already known to you. So, should it, in future, become possible to get there and come back, they would not be able to try and be the first to tag what they first discovered.

I wonder if this information is actually still accurate? Last time I died all my discovery scan data, system information, planets in the sytem map etc that I obtained since the last time I docked at a station were gone.
And since there are no stations to dock where they went I suppose that they would lose all scan data since they left the inhabitated space?

Excuse me for my lack of knowledge, I'm not much of an explorer, but I'm quite proficient in the dying department. :)

Does feel a little unfair. By all means recognise the achievement in some way but adding discovered by tags that should not really be there just feels a bit wrong.

They can now be returned from!

Somebody found a trick where you can get 2 neutron star boosts from 1 neutron star by flying through the cone whilst the FSD is counting down to enter the next system with a boost already in the tank.

Not sure if anyone said but made it big enough to get peoples attention, sorry if it was too big :)

In short I don't think this was a support action but maybe Brett C can confirm.

Assuming you are correct, you just vented all the hot air out of this thread.
How could you !? :D

Maybe you should read the thread - and the replies to that factually incorrect post - before breathing your own hot air on the thread?

Just sayin'

Ahhh, fair enough, I retract my previous statement then and am feeling rather silly. Thats ok though, it's Friday and I have beer.

In that case yeah I agree, kinda poor form that unreachable bits are tagged...

You should edit that post because now it's misleading those who reach it and just instantly hit the reply button right there thinking it's correct.

Last couple months we have seen many chases were abusing bugs etc. have been used by players to get benefits etc. For example the stacking massacre missions and killing skimmers to achieve high cr/h. CGs that require people to log in and out off the game to respawn stuff so they can have change to get to top spots on CGs. I really don't care about this but would prefer is this wouldn't effect CGs or story related stuff but everyone can stack and log off grind missions to get a lot of cr as much they want and i don't care. But all these can be seen as unintended stuff, not as stuff that frontier has decided to do or be features or mechanics of the game.

Now, however frontier support have joined to help players to get stuff that can't get or do in game. Most of you probably know distant star expedition. Players went to star cluster high above the galaxy, and with in game methods its one way trip as you need to do 219 ly jump to be able to enter the cluster. This mean there is no way player can get back to the bubble with exploration data to sell it and claim systems, stars or planets and tag them. Today logged in to the game in the cluster and see discovered by tags on planets, so i go to distant stars discord and ask if someone found way to get back home. The answer is no, there still is no way back to home. The answer i get is really shocking Frontier support have moved people from cluster back to systems were they can travel back to bubble and sell their data and get discovered by tag with their name on these systems. This is not bug or ch, frontier support have helped players to achieve stuff that is impossible to do in game. This feel very lame that frontier help people to cheat in game mechanics and rules. They should have at least removed the exploration data from these people when they moved them. This stuff is not acceptable, bugs and mechanics abusing i can understand (i would prefer t to not effect other player as much) but support doing that stuff? Why would they undermine their own game and community?

Should frontier remove these discovered by xxxx player tags from these systems in m67 star cluster as there is no way (other than support move you out there) to get those tags? This not following the rules of game start to go too far now that frontier support has taken part to it

These things like all the exploity things that have gone on, largely unaddressed, completely undermine the integrity of the game particuarly for folks who play legit. I've posted many times on these sort of issues to vent my frustration. All Frontier seem to do is shrug, and its only when folks kick up a big enough fuss that they appear to respond.

In conclusion it appears they don't really care. Its a bit of a depressing situation.

Lose all your stuff by your own fault? No problem, send a ticket to support and they will restore everything. All to keep people happy?

I was with DS. I self-destructed yesterday in order to return to my business in the bubble.

I doubt it's intended as a "beautiful" gesture from Frontier. I'm pretty sure they were unaware.

Now as far as the commander(s) involved, I think it's bad taste to sell the data.

Best course of action would be to remove all tags.

Frontier Support should stop doing this, and many things like it. Such as govibg people their ship back if they didnt have the insurance. There is no point to a game if rules arent upheld. The DSE now lost most of its meaning, the whole one-way aspect was the very point. Consequences are what gives meaning to actions.
