News Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy | New Release Date and Release Schedule

Disappointement comes only from fantasies.

I like to speculate, I like to play with ideas when I am waiting, but how I could be disappointed if noone promised anything? An according to words: "better in atmospheric flights" and every hype these words made I totally understand why Frontier don't want to reveal ideas before they made them come true.

PP2.0 is the great example. Few months ago we had a big info about what to expect and still a lot of commanders are really surprised.

You know that it does not matter how many times they delay it? It will be broken and buggy, as it always have been. I dont remember a single update that did not break anything.
Either dont give any release date and try your best to make it right or just release it and fix it later. But delay after delay wont make anything better
I remember one, and it did completely surprise me.

It's not a matter of ensuring a bug-free release, it never was. The delay is to reduce the bugs as much as possible within a reasonable time period. That's how the gaming industry works now.

One week late is a very reasonable time period IMO.

Personally I'm hoping the overpowered NPCs issue was some kind of scaling issue where it was giving experienced players a challenge but not toning things down for new players who were being stomped on.

I'm not saying I'm looking for a massive uplift in difficulty, but something to give players a reason to think tactically would be nice IMO.

This feedback comes from Partners, so I am pretty sure they have pretty nice point of view how it should be balanced. We could be only happy than Frontier works with players.

🤷‍♂️ Maybe, but in the 6 years that I play I've never lost the keybinds. OK I relatively quickly created a custom preset..

I didn't mean the keybinds (which I never lost too), I meant the fire groups! But then, Horrible September was in 2018 IIRC. Update after update, in short frequency, and each one broke something different.

I'm really excited to hear what this new feature will be. One thing is for sure, whatever it is, Arf felt the need to state 'at first I didn't see the need for it' , so given that he felt the need to state that and put that out there... the only thing I know he vehemently spoke against was the need for ship interiors... Sadly I feel its wishful thinking but I will still have my fingers crossed.

Greetings Commanders!

In order to ensure the best possible experience we have made a small change to the release date of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, to adjust an issue with NPCs still being more aggressive than intended.

Thursday 31 October sees the eagerly awaited release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy, featuring the new Mandalay exploration ship, Powerplay 2.0 and more!

Here's when things kick off:
  • 06:00 GMT - Maintenance begins and Elite Dangerous servers offline
  • 15:00 GMT - Maintenance complete and Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy is available
Please note that these are approximate times and are subject to change.

Full patch notes will be available alongside the release of Elite Dangerous: Ascendancy.

Things to be aware of

  • Powerplay ranks will be reset when Ascendancy is available. You will need to pledge to a Power if you wish to get involved with Powerplay on release.
  • The Mandalay will be available as early access via Arx initially. It will be available for credits in the future.

Speculation engine has been going BRRRR for far too long. Fdev would be better just announcing it straight away lol instead of saying a brand new feature to elite, and then leaving 10 months for speculation and people to get their hopes up.
If - picking randomly - they'd said it was ship interiors, then all that would have happened would have been that people would have started speculating on what sort of ship interiors and then been disappointed when it was another sort.

(And they can't be too specific about what sort 12 months out, because then what if they test it and it turns out not to be fun and they decide to do something a bit different?)

Personally I'd be happy for them to stick to a policy of "release the feature, then announce it" - it didn't do Update 14's Thargoid war any harm at all! - but they get hassle for "not having a roadmap" if they do that so I can understand them wanting to give a little more info.

The fire groups i'm not quite sure about, I might have had some issue with that, but if so I reprogrammed them and went on with my life.. :)

A common theme on the forum is the people complaining the loudest about the delay would be among the first to complain if the update had significant issues because it wasn't delayed.

In my case, I've made a few posts complaining about less than polished releases over the years, so if it's genuinely an issue, let's not get on their back if they want to fix it on a development server before rolling it out to us.

Yes, I don't want them to tone down NPC difficulty excessively, but if it's spitting out ATR ships or G5 PvP style battleboats the whole time for some weird reason, that's something we should let them sort out.

We got this with Elite feet, and then everyone was disappointed. But it's way cool actually and I would never go back to Legacy, including VR.

BTW I was shocked(!) when watching space combat as implemented in SC, as shown in a video contained in an article I posted today, dealing with Xeno combat there. Elite does it three times better, and besides SC looks bland like games from 3 decades ago in comparison. Even X-Wing looked better! 🙀

Let those interiors come any day, they can't do worse than the competiition, and then it's fun!
