Regarding eye tracking features it's pretty much the same as the 4C, but the Tobii 5 has far better head tracking support than the 4C. Head Tracking now works flawlessly even when emulating TrackIR using the FacetrackNoIr app.
Very interesting, thanks.

I'd consider trying the 5 if I could turn eye-tracking off and just rely on head-tracking then. My experience with both the 4C and EyeX was there was a bit of lag (presumably deliberate in order to smooth out the small, involuntary eye-movements). And it's not great with text-heavy interfaces such as ED - eyes scrolling left to right with the eye-tracking auto-centring as your eyes move is a match made in hell.

If head-tracking works great on it's own, it could be well worth having a look again. TrackIR has its disadvantages too (the additional cable, the clip can come loose throwing off centring, doesn't work AT ALL for me if it's bright outside even with curtain drawn).

I'm wondering what the actual download size is. Another 50-60GB? Youch.

Hands up who needs gigabit broadband?
With all the humility and the modesty required,

I think I'm well armed if the Frontier servers do the job. :)

Since Tobii 5 I too play using only head tracking, unless the game has some feature that makes use of eye tracking specifically, like Dying Light or Kingdom Come Deliverance. In some games (flight sims mostly, including ED) I even turn off the Tobii software and use just FacetrackNoIr to emulate TrackIR.

It works great in all lighting conditions, from bright to very dark.

Bear in mind that Tobii 5, like it's predecessors, only works at "desk distances", up to a meter tops, less is better. It's Tobii's big drawback when compared to TrackIR, it won't work if you wish to play on your couch in the living room 2 meters away from your big TV, it's made for playing at a desk only... It's the price to pay for being free from cables, hats, clips and whatever head mounted gizmos, and being able to simpy sit at the desk and have head tracking like if by magic.

Oh and another advantage the Tobii 5 has over 4C is that T5 head tracking now supports Z-axis as well, meaning that in games like MS Flight Simulator 2020 or IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad you can now lean forward to have a better look at instruments without having to fiddle with zoom.

Overall I'm a very happy customer.
