Elite Dangerous | Corsair

overall i love the corsair
but
the mass lock...
max speed could be a bit higher(?)
limpets fly straight through the hull after delivering cargo
free cam seems to have problems getting close to the ship and through the empty spaces between the hull and the nacelles
could the pilot blackout be reduced a little?

Embrace a new age with the latest in Gutamaya design

The multi-role capable Corsair is now available via ARX early access from the Elite Dangerous Gamestore.

I’m not giving FDev another dime until they at least acknowledge the issues happening with Colonisation. It’s getting WORSE as time goes on, which isn’t necessarily bad for beta. What is unacceptable is the non-existent communication. Don’t you realize how much we all love this game? How much we all want to support the devs in making this great? I feel like this beta test should be more of a team effort, with communication going both ways. But it’s a one way street now, and it’s incredibly disrespectful to the community of loyal players. Star Citizen is full of bugs, but at least they communicate and are up front about it. Please do better

Nice ship, but mass lock factor need to be fixed. It should have as other mid-ships like Kirait mk 2 or Python a MLF around 17, i hope the 7 is a 'typo'. Someone took a canopy and MLF and have done a copypaste from the Courier.

It almost sounds like they intended it to be 17 but typoed it and left the 1 out.

Wouldn't even be the first time either. As far as I know, the reason why the Anaconda has the largest jump range of all ships is because of a typo (that they never fixed because people fell too much in love with the huge jump range). And perhaps even more famously, the fact that supercharging at a neutron star gives you a 4x jump was also the result of a typo. (In this case they did fix it, but a massive player campaign made them revert it back to the "wrong" value. The rest is history.)

Great ship, but needs some tweaks as the 6a and 7a engineered thruster achieve the same speed. Surely this thing should be good for 750m/s stripped. Also prospector limpets continually hit the nose when launching unless you are stationary.

This has been discussed multiple times by now. You should get familiar with the concept of speed limits (all ships have one) and minimum thruster mass. Let me be so vain an refer you to one of my own posts for an explanation:

Post in thread 'What are you up to?'

One could argue if 600 was too little or not, but as it stands now the Corsair already seems OP.

Hey, Helmut, I appreciate your note, but I still feel that the ship could and should be faster. I am aware of the limits imposed by mass etc, but in this case I feel it could be lifted a little, especially considering the size 7 Thruster detail as noted. This is just my opinion. Other than that its a great ship. Thanks for your input.

The oversized thrusters are kind of an odd choice. For one they expose the underlying speed limit mechanic very clealy for the first time really; we've seen this occasionally on other ships, but only under certain circumstances. This time we see that larger thrusters don't make the ships faster beyond Frontier's design limit, but more that they make the ship impervious to mass changes. So the only way to make it faster is to make Frontier change the limit (or the hull mass). Which I don't think will happen. It seems deliberate, and in contrast to other values not copied and pasted from the Courier.

Personally I think 600 is plenty, and a ship that goes 600 no matter how heavy you make it is... well unique to say the least.

The issue is with F/A off, there should be no limit to top speed regardless of thrusters. The time you take to get to top speed will vary. (And the time you take to get back down from top speed...)

Some aspects of mass in ship builds are modelled correctly. If you fill a vanilla T-8 with cargo racks then you have to uprate the thrusters.

I have a funny feeling 600m/s is there because there's a limit on how far the game engine wants to go in one physics tick...

Well that's certainly a choice for gameplay reasons, and not unique to the Corsair.

Mind you, we have ships that can travel way beyond 600. Doesn't a Viper 3 with enhanced thrusters go like 930 or so?

If 600m/s was the copium in the original game engine then that's fine - an extremely pessimistic view of performance suggests four doubling cycles (2.5 years each) so the average rig is now at least 16 times faster. And consumer broadband has changed beyond recognition in this decade too.

So maybe they abandoned the limit in some code paths but left it on base / defaults in this ship? (Which would be consistent with forgetting to tailor masslock)

Hi :)

I'm not sure on that as I've never bought / engineered one.
I personally know that an Imp Courier can be engineered to go way over the 800 mark, not sure if it can go over 900 though.

Jack :)
885 appears to be the limit for the Courier. Needs one of the Vipers (or maybe also an Eagle? not sure about that one) to go over 900.

I would say 600 speed is plenty for a medium ship when you can run things like a heavyweight AX/regular PvE loadout and not lose any maneuverability or speed with it. Especially when it already appears to be as good as the Corsair is (as a multipurpose ship).
