Elite Dangerous flaws in game-design a.k.a i got bored at this game and here is why

That we have no tools for real, meaningful interaction is an observable truth. I'm sorry, but it is.

The game, at this stage, lacks interaction. Unless you're talking about combat, the game is mostly watching. Heck, for Explorers, NMS offers vastly more than Elite. Not saying much but it's true.

Beyond flight and combat Elite is an early alpha tech demo/proof of concept. I just hope it lives long enough to put meat on these bare bones. Right now, that's sorely lacking.

The game is a sand box. In your opinion it's not. You claim your opinion is a fact. It's not.

Sandboxes have tools. I can shape them, change them. In a sandbox, I can have an experience unique to me.

Tell me how Elite offers that. All I see are numbers and progress bars increasing.

And don't tell me to use my imagination. I read books aplenty already for that. I want game mechanics in my game, not my head.

Sandbox games have tools to let you shape a unique experience.

Elite utterly lacks that. Utterly.

Elite isn't a sandbox. It's just a shallow spreadsheet grind with a great flight model. It's a Long way from a Sandbox.

I have seen neither spreadsheets in this game, nor have I had to grind.

I have helped others liberate oppressed systems, participated in multiple races, had fun participating in actual science in this game, established a travel agency, and gazed in wonder at the galactic core, 700 light years above the galactic plane.

This game is what you make of it. If you want spreadsheets and grind, you can make it for yourself. If you want to make your own fun, you can do that too.

Its that kind of game.

If ED isn't a sand box in your opinion I can't help you. That's your problem and your opinion. It doesn't make it a fact though.

Tricky one that as opinions vary on the definition of words.

Traditionally I was brought believing:

- Sand box : A game with environment tools that allows the player to sculpt the play area akin to making castles in sand pits ( aka Minecraft / Transport Tycoon / Planet Coaster )
- Open world : A game without environment tools but allows the player freedom to go where they please ( aka WoW / Skyrim )

Over time though people have started to use the terms interchangeably .. as long as it's understood what is meant when you use one of them it really (to me at any rate) doesn't matter.

Oh sure. All this is true. On paper. I mean, it SAYS the system is liberated. That it's changed hands.

So how does this affect my game play? How is this visible to me, while I am out flying, fighting and hauling? How is this of consequence, in terms of GAME PLAY?

Oh. That's right.

It's not.

So you don't actually have a counter-argument. Got it.

Exactly.

Elite is a open world. On a grand scale. But it's shallow and repetitive. Without tools for meaningful or unique interaction. Without consequences for actions. Without anything that allows for the crafting of an experience unique to a given player.

It might get there. One day. I hope. I doubt it, but I hope.

I'll just quote wiki, not because it's always correct but because it's better than arguing about opinions.

Sandbox game
A game wherein the player has been freed from the traditional structure and direction typically found in video games, and is instead given the ability to choose what, when, and how they want to approach the available choices in content. The term is in reference to a child's sandbox in which no rules are present and play is derived from open-ended choice. While some sandbox games may have building and creation aspects to their gameplay, those activities are not required. Sandbox games usually take place in an open-world setting as to facilitate the freedom of choice a player is given.

How could I have a counter argument if you don't have an argument to begin with?

I can also get behind that explanation from Wiki, but allow me to say this (also Wiki, same page):

Open World
A game world that the player may freely traverse, rather than being restricted to certain pre-defined areas.

While 'open world' and 'sandbox' are sometimes used interchangably, the terms refer to different concepts and are not synonymous.

Really I don't think it matters :)

Elite has a lot of problems no doubt.

It is grindy, it is repetitive, it does lack depth.

But the way he puts it accross makes no sense other than to sound like a winge.

I should know, I post my concerns A LOT 😁

yes but you dont dismiss, you satirical told him to play star citizen most other replys where the forum police berating him

What is it with people's obsession with progression? I really enjoy this game, yes some isn't so good (powerplay) and the exploration mechanics. Combat zone could be worked on as well as well as bounty hunting.

This game is a sandbox. Look up the meaning of what it actually means:

Open world, free roam, or (more loosely) sandbox are terms for video games where a player can move freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in regard to how and when to approach particular objectives, as opposed to other video games that have a more linear structure to their gameplay.

Which is precisely what we have. It is not an empire building game or a construction game, so it doesn't have those elements in the game.

But if you can't find the fun, that is an issue for you, not the game. There is loads of fun, but you need to find it yourself.

list the gameplay

Great! Didn't say you have to, I asked you nicely. Doesn't mean I have to take you serious though.

no you where making me explain for the OP because i was defending him

Gameplay likes to be played, not listed. You don't even understand what it means and just use it as a buzzword because you are unable to make a point.

gameplay can be listed
quote from wilkipeda "Gameplay is the specific way in which players interact with a game, and in particular with video games. Gameplay is the pattern defined through the game rules, connection between player and the game, challenges and overcoming them, plot and player's connection with it. Video game gameplay is distinct from graphics and audio elements."

Looks like you understood OP and I didn't. That's why I asked you to explain me. I didn't "made" you, I asked you nicely.

It doesn't say gameplay can be listed though. Or that it would male any sense. Please list the gameplay of GTA: Run, drive, shoot. What a great game! You can do the same in Elite. Well not the running part. Listing gameplay doesn't say anything about the quality or fun people have with it.

PS
On the superior complex: You first ;)
