So there is no other way to get these special FSDs anymore? OK, that would be the last nail in the coffin then.
Incorrect - but they are saying that, unlike with the size 5 pre-engineered FSDs, we will not be able to apply an experimental effect to the size 3,4, and 6 FSDs from the recent community goal.

We will still be able to get them.

New players in all online games for the fact of joining after others are always at a disadvantage, they will eventually have their own advantage over other players who join after they do and so on. no where in the rules of the world does it say that games need to be egalitarian, they would all be boring if that was strictly the case.
The disadvantage of new players is in lack of skill and experience. Both can be overcome by training.

If the disadvantage is hard-coded into the game, the only winning move is not to play.

How could you even enjoy prevailing over younger players, knowing that the game is rigged against them? Your achievements wouldn't be attributed to your skill and experience but to the advantages the developers handed to you. And once you do lose against a younger player, no rematch could restore your reputation.

I respect your opinion, but I doubt it represents a majority. I believe most players prefer a fair competition on a level playing field where victories are meaningful.

However, I do understand that you don't want FDev to mess with your existing fine-tuned builds. In my opinion the only acceptable solution here is to keep the option to apply experimentals at least to the double-engineered 5A drive, if not to all of them.

The issue with this is the management of player expectations which again comes along with frontiers history of staying quiet on certain things. It was CLEAR from the getgo that the community was very excited for the new modules. But there was ZERO communication from frontier in regards of what to expect from these. All we had to gleam some insight on how these would work was the size modified fsd. No indication that it would work differently. Seriously what is with frontier and withholding stats for a module, Wether or not it’s gonna be changed? Plenty of other games give exact numbers and are successful. Frontier would likely benefit from that as well.

Did anyone do one of these yet?

I feel like this is a parallel to some other issue where something was taken away that a part of the community expected, but it slips my mind exactly what that was. Either way, they say they're going to review the situation and get back to us when they have more information...wow this feels like deja vu.
The Gnosis incident perhaps? Albeit that was an epic fail, whereas this issue is just baffling and symptomatic of terrible communication within FDev itself.

Sally has stated that the devs KNEW the 5A could have experimentals added, and they wanted it that way. And they also want the new drives NOT to be able to be modified. She's saying it's all "just" confusion about how this was communicated to the players. I'm not sure I buy into any of that.
Absolutely, no developer would knowingly and willingly communicate the failure of an in character action (adding an experimental effect) with an out of character error message (server error).
