Elite Dangerous: Horizons and Future Updates

50 would or more would be great...stuff like something the size of a python, but with a bit less cargo area, a Better FSD and another hardpoint

50 or so would only be great for me if they chose to include ships that fill empty niches, not just extra ships in niches that already have plenty of choices. So Imperial eagles, viper and cobra mark IVs may be great ships, but they hardly break new ground. There is no better explorer above the Asp until you get to the Anaconda.

I think the way they allow us to use all sorts of modules makes many of the ships quite adaptable..For example I saw a stream on twitch with a guy fighting in an Adder and he was doing quite well...or the people who've gone to the core in Haulers or Adders. For exploring there are a number of ships that are quite useful. IMO they cover all the bases pretty well right now, so lets have even more variations on the themes of fighters, multipurpose, explorer and trader ships... For example, let us have a choice between having a little more range at the expense of a little fighting ability or cargo area in the same weight class of ships. Or ships that compete for the same market niche from three different manufacturers

Who can argue against more ships? Arguably new features are more welcome to me, as current number of ships have sated me for at least year or two, but ED is not 'catch them all' game and if more specific role ships are needed - exploration for example - why not.

Yea more features is a good idea as well---give us a boatload of new modules..they've already started down that path, so here's hoping for even more. We'll have to see what turns up with the looting and crafting in season two...lots to look forward to and anticipate next year :)

Mass Effect was released in 2007.

Driving around in vehicles down on planets in the next Elite game was talked about by David around the year 2000. They even released an image at some point of precisely this...which is impossible to find now it seems...

They are just doing what they have been talking about internally for a very very long time. :)

Not that it is a revolutionary gameplay mechanic by any means. It just makes sense to use a vehicle to traverse huge planetary landscapes.

You did not really read any of it did you, there will be no cut scenes and it will be seamless with manual manoeuvring/landing in fact the "jumping vehicle" is about the only thing that will be similar!

Bagsy not me on the power console for the next hour :)

Alas no... There's talk of maybe some of the CQC back drops being used... But as regards new/more content for exploration and general space flight... Looks like nope. So logic would suggest this is it for a good while now - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=95448

Personally I'd prefer if "V1.5 - Ships" was "V1.5 - Space Content"...

Thanks dude - and yeah, shame, as i'm sure even small content additions would sate the appetite of many by creating the illusion of a living and unpredictable universe.
It's amazing the response that unknown artifacts got.

Just imagine if lone explorers thousands of light years out suddenly spotted a large unidentified capital ship or two slowly cruising towards our space with no known agenda... Reaching the first known far flung station, it incinerates it and carries on.

No community goal, no heads up from FD, but now simply a possible number of options left to us, the players, all the while the clock is ticking and stations start dropping like flies.. Everyone forget their factions and power struggles for a while and band together and head out to battle, en masse? Try and make contact initially?

Would love this kind of random scenario...

Which makes pretty much sense... who should store all the data for persistent tracks? As long as we see some track marks, tiny rocks bursting off and some nice dust effects, it will be pretty cool.

Dust is pretty much confirmed in the first buggy pic.

Look at the right, you can clearly see dust.

A very late thank you to you BM! Loved reading this during Gamescom :)

Some Redditors were asking for the volcanism-in-Horizons-later source, so I dug it up in the Eddie Symons Gamescom Q&A (12m30s). Thought you could sling it in if you're feeling super citational, and seeing as you're still updating (most welcome that is too :))

(PS it's a YT rip as the Twitch one seems to be truncated)

Update are per Dev Update on 1st October 2015 - Lots of exciting mission news :)

  • Missions can now be received in space, so they’re not always taken from the Bulletin Board and can be received from encounters with other ships. A variant on this are missions that can be triggered by scooping certain items in space. [Link]
  • Timed assassination missions will be available from the Bulletin Boards, similar to the assassination missions in FFE you need to find your target at a certain time and place. [Link]
  • This timing mechanism is also available for other mission types where the mission target can only be found at a specific time. [Link]
  • Missions can now have multiple stages – this applies as sequences of the same mission type, so delivering goods to a station and then bring something else back. [Link]
  • Note that this isn’t fully chained missions yet (which we define as different missions in a sequence), although these are planned as part of the Horizons season. A specific variant on this are tasks that have to be completed after a successful assassination. [Link]
  • A survival element to missions means that a player will have to survive specific encounters before being able to complete a specific mission, for example delivering secret information to a contact while being hunted. [Link]
  • Another aspect for a player to be aware of are those that require them to be completed without being scanned – something I’m sure skilled smugglers will have an advantage with. [Link]
  • Michael Brookes also said that "There are a couple of other elements too – but I’ll keep them as a surprise for you!" [Link]

Added thanks to Golgot:

A link to Eddie Symons talking about Volcanism can be seen [here]

This is very informative stuff, ty.

Are you getting paid by FD? You should, you are providing a great service that is in the interest of the company and their customers.

FD? Sent this guy some moneys pls kthnx.

I think a lot of the stuff is coming immediately and the updates will be things not mentioned so far. It seems to be FDEV's way of working, they let you know what's coming in the next patch when you have the patch prior to it.

So I think multicrew, deployable fighter, landings, avatar creation - will all be the base Horizons experience. Then looting and crafting and whatever else as the expansions in the season.

2 small updates following replied from Michael to Dev Update questions:

  • Passenger Missions are still planned but will not be making an appearance in 1.5. [Link]
  • CQC Assets/abandoned bases will included but as of 01/10/15 are "much further out" [Link]

Keep it coming, those are drops of actual information in an ocean of speculation, guesswork and hype....thx

There will be a Live Twitch stream with Ed, Adam Woods and Eddie Symons tonight! 7PM BST - I'll update this with any information we can prise from them.

any idea if the "vanishing players" from instances is still ongoing or if its been fixed in the new expansion? In regards to this thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=78627&page=24&p=2873611#post2873611 or if it just an isolated problem for us unlucky few? I'm a bit reluctant to part ways with my cash if i cannot play with fellow clan buddies. Especially given it seems a bigger deal with the new expansion given multi crews and the emphasis on team play provided via wings.

Sorry if ive missed this ive tried to read through the whole thread but there's so much . Has horizons been confirmed for xbox? Not the official release of Ed on October the 6th but the horizons expansion as there seems to be some people confusing the two.
