Patch Notes Update Elite Dangerous: Horizons patch 2.0.06

I lost horizons on steam. and it's telling me the I need to purchase it again??? ? even on the frontier website it's in my purchase history. still telling me to buy it again.

I have to say I'm having the same issue. This should be probably sticky for people who were using horizons standalone. The horizons standalone is no longer but people who have bought Horizons still do have that linked to their steam and their elite account.

I had to redownload the entire Elite game from Steam (another big download - lucky I have NBN in Australia) and then you can launch horizons from that in steam. You can even add a launcher for your desktop but remember to set Launch Options and put in /edh to make it effective.

To be honest, this is the worst way they have done this with no prior shoutout to say "Hey your game won't work anymore if you use Horizons Standalone"

Anyone know why my Steam version now says "Purchase" despite having bought Horizons a few months back and my Dangerous (also on Steam) says I have a season pass for Horizons? Also what's the difference between 'normal' Horizons and a season pass?

Yeah mine says that too now. Just means you can use like I've said before thank goodness :)

So are you saying I should play the game called Elite Dangerous in my Steam account the one that gives me the choice to play in 32bit or 64bit mode? The one above ED:Horizons? That I have never launched.
The old original game that was listed in my Steam game list that I never clicked on? If I run that will it not delete all my Horizons files you know the one that knew what ship and how many credits I have.

I think I updated the game thru Steam and ED only not ED: Horizons launches but I am scared to death to hit play...

EDIT: thank you divinemaiden that worked REP going your way. Frontier really needs to hire someone who knows how to communicate how these updates will work, what to expect and what to do since this is not normal.

seriously, guys, what's wrong with you?

That means that the launcher was running when you ran the update. For technical reasons Windows can't allow writes to exes that are running at the time, so as a compromise it puts the updated exe in a special folder and uses it to replace the original next time you reboot. That window gives you the chance to reboot right then.

That's correct. I never even had it installed before when I had horizons because it was a standalone. When you launch the launcher, it asks you to login to your elite account which has all your data linked to it not steam.

i'm aware. and it can easily be avoided by the launcher process properly terminating itself before directing me to a download page right after telling me it's going to abort for the nth reinstall. why a launcher, a piece of software with the single purpose of managing updates, requires a full reinstall (vs a transparent update) every two months is beyond me.

but "john, i'm only ranting" ...

Horizons is a season pass, always has been. It's season 2.

And all you do is use Elite: Dangerous launcher not horizons in steam and where it would prompt you play elite or play elite steam vr, they added horizons into it. And if you don't have Season 1 of elite you may have to download it, just remember if you only got horizons, Season 1 of elite was include as far as i know, but then again i purchase both Season 1 and 2 before Horizons was released.

repeating myself: "Didn't FD say in another post they aren't fixing the current mission system since they'll implement a completely new one aka not wasting time on the current system? (sure, I wish they wouldn't have followed a This will do path in the 1st place.)"

Have you selected the alternative download mirrors in the options menu? Took only a few minutes and my internet connection is nothing special.

Never saw that , but it was not checked.
I came back after an hour and found that I had an error, network timed out, so I tried again and it goes very fast but I kept getting and error " failed to stream file blah blah.. " so I checked the box this time on alternative download, now its back to 2 hours,,,     ?? why have they made this so Fing hard to update????????????????

In case others are still having trouble, I'm a steam user and it *still* has that network error. So I used the EDLaunch.exe launcher from outside of steam, uninstalled the game and reinstalled completely. It works now your CI/CD testing needs looking at.... :)

It's nice that there's an update, but slightly frustrating that the Launcher then has to be reinstalled (not the upgrade itself yet, but the launcher to get to it) and demands a verification code despite accepting one's username and password. Is it necessary?

I am all for updates,, to improve the game,, but I have never seen an update that seems to be completely RE-DOWN-LOADING the game??????? ,, normally a update simply changes a few of the files, takes about 10 min,,, this one is telling me its going to be 2 hours!!!! REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Four hours for me, and that's just the Elite 64-bit before Horizons...

Have you selected the alternative download mirrors in the options menu?
Where is that on the Launcher?

What's the deal here... Steam updated a 1GB update file in <2 minutes for me (80MB/s fibre), however when I launch the game it's saying I need to re-install the launcher. Now this is taking an age. It's syncing files at around 3.8 MB/s max, however this is extremely unstable and is constantly dropping to 1MB/s and lower! Why is this necessary, why does it need sync files and why is it taking so long???
0.39 MB/s for me, and that's about the highest it has ever got (I'm in a 3MB broadband area). Not Steam, it is from the FD launcher itself.

I have to say every single patch update is full of bugs for me. Why is updating Horizons like pulling teeth. I am getting this bug called failed to read from responce stream. Network connection closed. Is getting really old. Please anyone else know how to fix this?

I love this game, but this is outrageous software package management. I work for a large enterprise software company and if that software would suddenly stop working one day, with only an indication that you no longer own the software and a big PURCHASE button instead, this company would likely be out of business the day after.

I need to come here to look for bug reports that I need to download and install a game I have never owned, in order to continue the game I played last sunday. Nothing like this has ever happened to me with software purchases, and I hope it never does again.

Hopefully I'll still get some bounties tonight towards the CG, but who knows ...

Thanks for the update, Frontier. As always, all done and dusted in 10 minutes, no problems whatsoever with the launcher, installation and download speeds :)

There's nothing in the patch that should have affected Mac performance.

Bitstorm. Thanks.. tried it this morning, and all is back to normal. Can only guess the time I was playing, the servers were slow due to everyone updating, and as I was in Open, the slow servers were effecting the redrawing.

Relief! And Thanks FD for fixing the mac key bindings problem.. Much better (I often swap between y=yaw and =roll).
