ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Horizons Set to Land for All Commanders

It's always easier to talk about someone than talking to someone.
This saying also has its place here. Very good. :)

But non-LEPers will still have to pay for Odyssey .... unless they wait a few years for the Next Big Update to consolidate Odyssey with Horizons, by which time <insert thoughts here, e.g. SC enters Beta :D>
Yes, there are certainly not very many people who do not currently have Horizons.

As a funny sidenote, I DMed FD about giving away my CM4 as a raffle prize in any livestream, and the silence I got just tells me FD regret LEP, exclusive ships and anything outside of traditional software purchases.

I think regret might be the wrong word but I'm pretty sure kickstart and preselling gives a hangover. When everybody has a stake in what they bought but you haven't built yet, it's like having a backseat driver grabbng for the wheel .. and very different from "here's the finished product, take it or leave it". Pretty sure the Kickstart happened for a reason though and regardless of the problems stemming from it, I for one am very happy that it did. Je ne LEP regret rien, worth every penny.

Here's why us LEP owners are upset, and I'm surprised it even needs explaining.
This is what we thought we were paying £120 for: "For a limited time only, players will be able to purchase a Lifetime Expansion Pass granting access to all current and future Seasons of Elite: Dangerous."
This is what we've actually paid £120 for without being informed: For a limited time only, players will be able to purchase a Lifetime Expansion Pass granting EARLY access to all current and future Seasons of Elite: Dangerous which everyone will eventually get for free, plus some paintjobs.

It looks like those people who paid £120 for access to ALL seasons would still have gained access to all seasons without spending £120. The simple fact is, had Frontier advertised the Lifetime Expansion Pass as it's turning out to be (Pass holders gain access to All expansions, but each expansion will become free to all before the following one is released), our complaints would have no basis. It was false advertisement (even if they didn't know at the time that they would decide this in the future). If everyone is getting access to all expansions regardless of having bought a LEP, then what the LEP actually is, is: a subscription to some paintjobs at random intervals.
I think there is no reason to argue on this subject.

Out of 3.5 million copies sold, the few accounts without "Horizons" concern Cmdrs who do not have much money (a little solidarity with the most disadvantaged is a good thing :)) , or Cmdrs who are not interested by the game and have certainly not played for a long time, or dead Cmdrs (yes years go by) etc ...

Regarding "Odyssey" for the new entrants and those who do not have the LEP, I think the price will be adjusted on the rise.

No, I'm complaining that LEP is not what was advertised. You even elude to it in your post - "Just so long as my LEP entitles me to the free and exclusive Odyssey equivalent of the Cobra IV."
That wasn't included in the description of the Pass.

I tried my very best to explain it in simple terms and even repeated it in my post, but I guess I'll try again.
What was advertised = THIS
What has been delivered ≠ THIS

It appears as though EVERYONE has a lifetime expansion pass, but those who paid for a lifetime expansion pass are actually getting paintjobs.

Had the Lifetime Expansion Pass been advertised as a subscription to paintjobs, I'd have no leg to stand on.
Had the Lifetime Expansion Pass been advertised as an exclusive ship upon release of each expansion, I wouldn't be able to complain.
Had the Lifetime Expansion Pass been advertised as access to the expansions prior to them being made free-for-all, I'd be forced to shut my mouth.

Yes, the paintjobs are nice, and yes, not dividing the player base is nice, but both those points are irrelevant. The simple fact is, LEP was advertised as access to ALL expansions, but what is being delivered is not that.
I understand your reasoning on the technocratic point and also in the absolute.

I understand it less on the human level and also of the computer technique to facilitate the homogeneity of the game.

You are delirious!.

Frontier is just vexed that you consider the Mk IV as 💩 ( :) )

So you are telling us that you don't / won't have access to all expansions when they are released as a LEP holder? That is terrible!

Never mind, the remainder of those who play have the option to buy expansions as we see fit, or even wait 5 years or so and get them free...

Your LEP gives you access to all expansions as they are released, that hasn't changed. It gave you Horizons free of additional charge, and it will give you Odyssey free of additional charge. It also gave you all the perks early purchasers of these expansions are entitled to.

I'm a LEP owner and I am not upset about this, so please don't make it sound like you're speaking for all of us. And I am surprised it needs explaining, because it is frankly silly to me that someone would get upset, because someone else got something for free (while still having to pay for the next expansion, which "us LEP owners" are getting for free).

I believe you should have said "Here's why I am upset" instead, otherwise your statement is simply not true. I am definitely not part of your LEP tribe dude.

Im in the same camp as @rootsrat

As a premium Beta Backer I have no problem with Horizons being rolled in to the base game, just as I will have no problem with Odyssey being rolled in to the base game when and if the next paid for DLC is launched.

I think it is fantastic of Frontier to even offer Horizons owners a little reward, something lets be honest they don't have to do.

Same here.

If I was going to be bothered about this, I'd have needed to object to every time Elite Dangerous was sold for <£40 and Horizons <£35 - which has been "all the time for the last several years". Why is the extra £5 off Horizons' price suddenly so important?

Meanwhile I've been playing Horizons for five years and the people getting it for free now haven't, so I still think I've got the far better side of that one.
