ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Horizons Set to Land for All Commanders

Just thought I would chip in and say as an early backer and LEP owner I just dont see the problem either. Personally, I think its a good move by FDev to make fold Horizons into the main game and make it essentially free.

Perhaps someone needs to get out of the house more?

so i paid £50 to beta pre-order Horizons as paid content and now the next PAid content is on the "horizon" all i get is a lousy piece of crap Paint job? what a jip.. could have at least given us a credit boost and and ad shed load of arks... or more apropriately a *** lyalyty discount toward ODDESSY when it goes on sale? for crying out loud FDEV you know better than this.. a SODDING paint job?
This is your first MMO, isn't it?

Not all, just one or two. Quite a few LEPers already replied to the thread without acting like they've been abused somehow.

I feel as though I've been abused - I bought a loaf of bread last week, and now they have it in store for cheaper !
As an 'investor' in their store, I expect a personal apology, how dare they do this to me.

<Rant>
I really don't get people who express similar to above. Buying a product from a store does not mean you own the store, or that they owe you any loyalty whatsoever.
Where on earth does this level of entitlement stem from?
</Rant>

FYI - I'm an LEPer, and am happy with what I've received so far, and really like the Look of Odyssey. When. bought the LEP I knew it was a risk / slow burner, but still feel as though I've got my moneys worth. I've not bought anything since the initial outlay.

So do LEP backers also lose their minds when a game they brought at launch for full price is sold for cheap in a sale or given for free on the Epic store?
Actually yes, a few of them do.

I notice FDev are also giving away Elite 1984 for free on their website.

Where are the folk asking for their £15 back? That's nearly fifty quid in today's money!!

Did those customers even get a DiScOuNT on Elite Dangerous!?

When you buy software, you're paying what it's worth to you NOW. Time is the most valuable asset in the world. Getting something earlier is worth more. If you're frugal and willing to wait (and that can be a wise choice) you can always get software cheaper a few years down the line. Or there's always the chance it will become freeware, or released for free as a special promotion, or bundled into something else.

But you knew this. You KNEW this when you bought it, because it's a fact of life. You wanted to have it AT THAT TIME, and not in the future, when you knew it would eventually become cheaper or be given away for free.

Once they release the next full expansion pack (after Odyssey) I'll feel like the LEP has finally "matured"

It did make it so I didn't have to bother messing about buying any more stuff since I got it but... it has been a tad longer than I expected for expansion pack releases (I bought the pass when Horizons came out, so this is the first expansion since I bought the pass)

Here's why us LEP owners are upset, and I'm surprised it even needs explaining.
This is what we thought we were paying £120 for: "For a limited time only, players will be able to purchase a Lifetime Expansion Pass granting access to all current and future Seasons of Elite: Dangerous."
This is what we've actually paid £120 for without being informed: For a limited time only, players will be able to purchase a Lifetime Expansion Pass granting EARLY access to all current and future Seasons of Elite: Dangerous which everyone will eventually get for free, plus some paintjobs.

true, no point in denying that, but that's just the pace. materially it's not different from what you actually get (all "future" content for free) so you don't even have a case. they comply, you just think you haven't saved as much as you thought you would have by now because they have been twiddling their fingers. i'm pretty sure that many would have expected far more commitment and release from frontier these years, but dinosaurs had to hatch and roller coasters had to be erected first or the whole framework would have collapsed. 🤷‍♂️

you made a bet and just have to wait for it to play out. if you bought it with horizons you'll roughly break even with the season after odyssey so ... 2024-25? you were in for the long haul anyway, right? :D

besides, i guess there were plenty of different reasons to buy the lep beyond a good financial deal (except for who also bought some fdev stock, that is). support the developers and all that! look what you have contributed to create! 🤡

Or maybe its time for an upgrade? ED isn't very demanding, neither is Horizons. FDev shouldn't hold back bc people are failing to meet the minimum specs bc of older machines. This isn't an FDev issues, this is a you issue
Your consideration is noted, despite it being off-topic.

Have a nice day!

I suppose i should be thankful that i bought the LEP option when it was only £35 hahahahahahahaha. I know some paid a lot more for it, such is life. Tissues on sale at your local store

You people love handing over your consumer rights at the drop of a hat. First the CMIV and now this. Look at the long term rather than being "nice" and instant gratification.

Oh and gold paintjobs.

It looks like those people who paid £120 for access to ALL seasons would still have gained access to all seasons without spending £120. The simple fact is, had Frontier advertised the Lifetime Expansion Pass as it's turning out to be (Pass holders gain access to All expansions, but each expansion will become free to all before the following one is released), our complaints would have no basis. It was false advertisement (even if they didn't know at the time that they would decide this in the future). If everyone is getting access to all expansions regardless of having bought a LEP, then what the LEP actually is, is: a subscription to some paintjobs at random intervals.

Everything devalues over time. We paid a premium to support the game and get early access. That's all. We got a nice fat little Cobra variant for it, some early bling, and the LEP. Enjoy that, and enjoy your free future expansions.

There is a saying: "It's the little things that count", which seems to have got completely lost over time...
I think that all those who never considered ED as a 'product' in the first place are the winners now, the happy chaps. 😁

And discounting! Anything bought today will be worth less in the future. That's just basic economics. I have some old computer parts sitting around to sell to someone that wants to buckle that trend, however.

I bought a car for six grand. Twenty years later I scrapped it for 150 quid. I told the guy at the scrapyard it was worth six grand and he just laughed at me. Said nobody, ever.
