ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Horizons Set to Land for All Commanders

What is this obsession with the Cobra MKIV? Is it a case of wanting something because someone else has it?
I can’t speak for everyone.

For me, as a PlayStation commander from day1, I have never been able to acquire the ship.
Elite wasn’t on PS4 when Horizons was released and the Cobra MkIV was sold as a pre-order incentive to PC or Xbox Commanders. When the game came to PS4 in 2017, it was already an established part of the game. PS4 commanders who pre ordered, making the PS4 launch successful, received a paint job.

The PC galaxy, the Xbox galaxy and the ps4 galaxy are all separate so whether a PC, Xbox or PS4 commander has a cobra MkIV does not affect the other communities. The reason for not providing the Cobra MkIV to the PS4 commanders is incoherent. We just wanted equivalence. The PC or Xbox commanders did not lose out because of what the PS4 commanders receive.

Horizons was launched in 2016.

We have been campaigning ever since to right that situation. For the first three years on PS4, Frontier comments were along the lines of ‘we’re looking into it‘, ‘we’re aware of the request‘, ‘we’ve nothing to report at this time..’ - so we continued to campaign. (We even got cobra MkIV paint jobs on the PS4 store during Black Friday last year due to a coding problem releasing them by accident)

thanks to all Commanders, on all platforms, that supported our campaign.

Frontier released the Beyond update in 2018 and myself and a number of others changed the focus of the campaign to be to provide the Cobra MkIV to all commanders now playing the game. The time of Horizons had passed.

It is now 2020. It’ll be 2021 by the time that Odyssey is released. Frontier is simplifying the game offering, removing the separation between the base game and Horizons. In doing so, any commander that was previously in the base game only will suddenly have access to a higher number of ships.

My ask is / was to simplify the code one stage further and remove the constraint that limits a single ship on the PC and Xbox to a small group of players who purchased the game more than five years ago and provide it to all. The ship Is coded, we see the occasional Cobra MkIV in game (on the PS4). The logic of not making a ship available to all and then being to sell paint jobs or Ship kits in store to the majority of the player base is lost on me.

I find it kind of hillarious in a karmic kind of way that the PS4, the platform known for trying to use exclusivity as a marketing tool did not receive the Cobra MK IV.

Personally I don't like exclusives, they will get the opposite reaction from me, I boykot Epic Store for their exclusivity stunt they are doing. They can keep their free games.

And I think the Cobra MK IV should be available to all. Some paintjobs being restricted is ok, especially if it is a backer reward or some price someone won, they've earned it. Still, make them available in the store, price them high (but not stupidly high), hide them away in an "exclusive" section with a disclaimer so anybody who "has" to get this, can.

Make the Cobra MK IV a 10€ "Exclusivity DLC". Or make it free, it has been 5 years already!

I've seen Horizons for sale on Steam for as low as £4. It was inevitable that it would become part of the base game before Odyssey released just for simplicities sake. I didn't think that it would happen as soon as it did though.

I hope the Cobra Mk IV will be included in the deal, if so, it could be rebalanced into a better ship and nobody could have a problem with that.
Big agree.

Paints have never been a problem. The issue with the Cobra is that it's actual content.

It's an entire flight profile, and customisation option locked because people weren't around soon enough.

AKA rather dumb reasoning for it to be locked away. Whatever the case FD really needs to not offer another ship like this.

forever is such a strange word ... I am pretty sure I won't be able to buy a Cobra Mk IV in 40 (or 60, or 80 ... well, I'd also need quite some life expectation then) years from now. So I guess it is not forever-forever, more like "until the game servers shut down"-forever. They could also make them available only for one month per week for all other players, keeping it exclusive and at the same time not making it available for those peasants forever.
