Release Elite Dangerous HUD Mod (EDHM)

This is covered at least a dozen times in this thread. It amazes me that people still don't know about it. It has literally happened every single patch.

That's part of the beauty of Steam though: only about half of it breaks. Most of the colors remain the same after updates because Steam doesn't download every file and overwrite them; it only downloads the new files.
it has nothing to do with how many files Steam downloads, and the result is the same on every platform. What matters is which shaders are changed or even touched by the devs. We had updates where a minimal damage was done to EDHM, and we had ones where pretty much everything reverted back to original, because almost all of the UI shaders were modified or touched in some way.

The affect or lack of it also depends on how many and which shaders we have changed in our schemes.

Every time the colour got reset with previous updates, I was able to manually change it back. The fact that this time it didn't work was what prompted me to post.

When FDev updates the game, they make changes to shaders.
When a shader is changed by FDev, EDHM must be updated to reflect the change.

Updates do not always break the same shaders.
U16 made changes to the radar, while it was not changed in U15.
U15 changed several textures, which is not the case with U16.

I am afraid every time FDev announces a game update.

The current version of EDHM (v16.01 / UI v2.2.02) has fixed a lot of things.
There is still a known issue: the radar does not take the custom color when using the Data Link, this will be fixed soon.

FDev is likely to release an Elite update soon, this will surely break shaders but in smaller quantities. (I think the shaders related to Ultra-High material quality will be broken)

Still couldn't get it to work on epic with new launcher stays totally orange. Will try on main tomorrow.
The update may have changed the game's installation folder.

Close the game and in EDHM_UI, try:
Main Menu > Settings > Game Localizator Assistant (Green Button)
Restart EDHM_UI and do Main Menu > Install EDHM Mod

I checked the original installation from Frontier, that all works, so it's either a folder permission or another location for the graphics mods as I have an account from Frontier, Steam and Epic.
I suspect permissions as it worked before.
Will keep you posted 📫...

I'm not particularly good at modding games. Without reading these 62 pages, are there any instructions on how to get the biome overlay up and running beyond "install EDHM and then the overlay"? I dunno, a video, a powerpoint with arrows pointing on things ya gotta click, etc?

I know there must be a reason but I can never understand why a mod can't be installed with one click in a default installation. There's always screenfuls of sorcery and extracting this and moving this folder there... ya know, something for people who don't deal with .msi files and such every day.

I apologize in advance if it's somewhere in here, but I couldn't find it. And the YT video is simply a silent demonstration of what it can do.

Looks very promising and I can't wait to use it.

For the mod itself, all you have to do is to install the EDHM UI, it takes care of installing the mod for you, and it is essential to change your colors anyway. As far as 3rd party mods like the biome overlay go, this is not really complicated, and it is documented on github, the place where you can also download the 3rd party mods. Basically, download the mod, save it on your computer, have the UI import it. It doesn't get any easier.

There is EDHM_UI which provides a classic installer for Windows. It allows you to install and use EDHM.
This same program allows you to download and install the Biome Overlay (and others) mod in a few clicks. (Main Menu > 3PMods > Biome Overlay > Accept Installation)

It's install EDHM UI. Pick the theme you like -- unless it's not bundled. If it's not bundled, you need to download it and import it into EDHM UI. Apply. Then load up ED.

I installed EDHM (I think) and the mod... the YT video makes it look like he's changing the biome overlay color in game. Is there a key that cycles through the options in-game?

I don't know, I don't use the biome overlay. I only use the mod itself, no 3rd party mods for it. For the mod itself, EDHM-UI is all you need, and the UI's context help should be able to help you.

You can assign a key to cycle the options as well as choose the default option and assign your choice of colours in EDHM_UI in the 3Pmods section of the menu by selecting the mod. Exactly how I don’t remember as I haven’t set that up again since I changed computers.
