Release Elite Dangerous HUD Mod (EDHM)

Hi CMDR,

As I mentioned in the post above, there's a new version coming out in a month or so specifically for modding enthusiasts who would like to customise the colour of everything on the HUD. No matter how many colours I add in (which takes a long time) it will never satisfy everyone since colour choice is very personal. So it's best to give CMDRs the tools to do it themselves

In the meantime, can you configure an XML matrix to approximate the colours you need, and then apply that XML colour theme to the elements on the HUD?
Ohhh, that's great! Looking forward to it. :) Yeah, I've tried to overlay some elements with the XML, but it's not 100 % controllable and once I manage to apply a desiredcolor then I don't like how the panels look. Im fine with waiting for the next version. o7

Oh I didn't think anyone would notice that z120 typo
That's dyslexia for you. I have to read technical things carefully and check variables. :)

.. you have an eagle-eye, maybe you could check my thesis for me? :)
Depends on the subject and as long as it doesn't involve matrices. I missed that class at school going to the dentist. ;)

I'll look into the Missions tab and see what's happening there

The Profile Guide is together with the main download on the GitHib:

It's a nice read for when you have insomnia
As you might expect, I found it just after posting.
Reading it gives me a better idea of what is going on even if you do use that M word. ;)

But seriously, if anything is confusing or omitted from the Guide then please let me know. Because I'm very familiar with the topics it's difficult to put myself in the shoes of someone who hasn't seen them before
Thanks, will do. I'm not used to these rinky dinky GPU graphics. More of an old fashion raytracer, myself. 🙈

Hi there

This mod has been a lifesaver on my eyes, great work!. Im posting regarding a issue in having with version 1.5. i used version 1.4 with no issues at all, everything functioned just perfect i uninstalled the old version via the bat file before installing 1.5. the issue im having is that nightvision is not working at all in this new version, i press the button and everything stays dark, i thought it was user error so i played with all the functions to see if it was just a setting. i did not touch the ini file at all this is on a fresh install. after a hour or so of frustration i decided to uninstall and go back to 1.4 which works perfect. any quick fixes for this or is it just bad luck.

I thought that as well. Not sure it's range activation related as I had to get quite close before it appeared.

Hmmm that's very interesting, I wonder why that particular shader isn't working. Ok there's two approaches .. first we could try to fix the issue, or second just disable that shader completely

If you'd like to try and fix it, I think the problem would most likely stem from the following sources (based on helping many CMDRs over the past 6 months):

- non default GraphicsConfiguration.xml (restore via the ED Launcher, Options menu, Validate Game Files). Note: This will delete all mod files as well!

- non default GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml in folder: AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics
Check what's inside, move it to a backup folder if it's not empty.

- use of ED Profiler to manage graphics settings. About 5 CMDRs have reported they couldn't get the mod working correctly while ED Profiler was adjusting their settings, and then the mod worked with it uninstalled. Plus they also had to do the next fix:

- resetting the Graphics folder in the hidden AppData folder:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics

You can reset this Graphics folder non-destructively by putting a dash (-) in front of the folder name. Then when you load Elite it will recreate a fresh Graphics folder (and you can easily revert to the old folder .. exit Elite, delete new Graphics folder, remove dash from old Graphics folder, run Elite). Pics below

Disable the folder
Graphics-Options-Reset.PNG

Then when you run Elite
Graphics-Options-Reset-2.PNG

If that doesn't work, or sounds like too much trouble, then just delete or disable the night vision shader:

  • Go into the ShaderFixes folder (in the elite-dangerous-64 folder)
  • put a dash (-) in front of: -0f2b92ba5625c61f-ps.txt or just delete it

When you next load Elite you'll have the default Elite night vision

Please let me know how it goes

Hi CMDR,

Are you having an issue with the night vision as well? I can't replicate the issue on my system (range is the same as the default Elite night vision) so I'm not sure what's going on there

But please see my post above if you'd like to disable that shader

Just a quick question, I'm trying to get to the bottom of the issue and was wondering what sort of graphics card you have?

Hi there, to thanks everyone for your reply's I'll try the above fixes when I get back from work today and see if that helps. I'd say your right regarding the shader not functioning properly as my graphics card is pretty old but still plays the game with no issues on high settings. Graphics card is AMD HD 6900 OC so it's doing ok to keep up with the latest games. I'll update you in a few hours once I get a moment to sit down and tinker. Thanks again!

Thanks for your speedy reply! i really appreciate it.

Ok i tried all of the fixes you suggested one by one starting with the file validation with no avail. The only way i managed to get it to work was to disable the shader as you suggested and it worked perfect using the original elite night vision. so it seems the issue is with the night vision shader. Interesting that it works fine on the 1.4 version of your mod, was there a shader update in the new 1.5 pack? im just happy that it works in some form now so thank you again.

There wasn't a night vision mod in the previous version, but I had posted the shader separately on here for extensive beta testing. There's another CMDR with a similar issue, also with an AMD GPU, so I'm wondering if it's an interaction between AMD hardware and particular instructions in that shader. That being said, there are many CMDRs with AMDs running the mod without the issue so I'm not really sure, and I don't have the hardware for systematic testing.

When you have a minute, could you please try one other thing? The other CMDR also reports the radar dimming function isn't working correctly. Specifically, the outer radar ring and inner radar grid won't dim independently. I wonder could you please check if they dim independently? (in the radar section of Startup-Profile.ini)

Best to run that sort of test in Dev Mode so you can press F11 to reload Elite each time you change the values (while exited from Elite, double click the file EDHM-DevMode-ON.bat, and when you're finished testing double-click EDHM-DevMode-OFF.bat)

No worries if you don't have time though! And thanks for getting back to me with the results of your testing

I am having difficulty getting my head around all the include files in d3dx.ini.
I can see that you have set up the files for flexibility in changing profiles. And now that I have set up the mod, including using XML profiles. I want to have the simplest setup without disturbing the hierarchy in your distribution.
In XML-Profile.ini, you write:

; Hotkey Profiles, don't forget!

; If you fine tune the values below for better portraits,
; don't forget to update the XML values (x158, y158, etc) for this
; profile in MyProfiles.ini

I assume that I have to create a new profile called MyProfiles.ini. Should this just be a copy of XML-Profile.ini? What will happen if I change the values in XML-Profile.ini but not in MyProfiles.ini? Which include’s settings take precedence?

I’m probably over thinking this. :)

Not sure whether it's expected behaviour but my character suits are now desaturated. Also, the same appears to be the case with holo-me.

Edit: The lights on the side of the cabin also appear to be absent.

This tool is somehow extremely difficult to set up for a person who just wants to replicate GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml change without it's negative side effects (changed color of enemies on radar, "wanted" status etc.). I messed around in dev mode but couldn't replicate my original xml hud.

You should probably consider developing "lite" version of this where you can use RGB numbers just like with the xml to set the looks.
Or a pack of easy to understand profiles.
