elite dangerous is a true success

There is no other game that I have played for literally thousands of hours. I think that speaks for itself.
That is true for me too, but I doubt it is a good measure for quality, because 1. I have never played a game that required even half the time investment compared to ED to archive similar progress. 2. there is hardly any competitor in this genre for years.

I've played money-grabbing, Skinner box mobile games for hundreds, if not thousands of hours. Doesn't make them paragons of gameplay.

Play Odyssey then come back, you will see why everyone is upset with the failure of it.
"Everyone" as in a vocal minority you mean? It's fine. Just watched Down To Earth Astronomy's livestream of robbery and assassinations, and then watched Buur's new on foot materials gathering guide. Both streamers had huge fun. As do I.

You can't be saying things like Elite Dangerous and Success in the same wording on these forums. The games only 1 year away from end of life and Frontier closing it down for good. Remember when everyone said its a dying game then suddenly a roadmap appeared showing further development.

Pretty low hanging fruit comparing to some 20 y old game. Yet, some of the old games pretty much stand the test of time with gameplay - gfx isn't the holy grail of entertainment.

That makes you 3 the "silent majority that likes the game" ? It was just the logic behind the reply that made me comment, i Love ED, odyssey is a frontier mess in my opinion, yet still playing.

I wouldn't have recommended Odyssey before Update 8. However, after update 8, it's got a lot better with each update. It won't perform as well as Horizons on lower spec machines, and there's still some connectivity issues when you're in a team but I'd recommend Odyssey going forward.

odyssey is great fun , performance is not great at the moment , but its getting a bit better , compared to update 7 (when I started playing ) its much better .

I played odyssey on Nvidia GeForce now and in the concourse the fps drops to 20 fps in parts , so if even with what's equivalent to a GTX1060 still battles to keep a decent framerate , then they still have a lot of work to do .

I remember playing Pong in a bar...

Without question ED is a stellar achievement !!!

That said FD's communications debacles and some development choices have certainly had a negative impact on players' attitudes toward the game. Unfortunate.

I still don't see anything in the marketplace so compelling that it motivates me to move on...

Elite Dangerous is a great game that I have thousands of hours playing in VR.
What keeps me from liking and playing Odyssey is performance and lack of on foot VR support.

For now if I play Elite it will be in Horizons VR.

You need to diversify a bit...off the top of my head, EverQuest, Lineage 2, Morrowind, Pac Man, Planet Coaster, Company of Heroes 1 & 2, Warcraft II & III, Starcraft, Neverwinter Nights, Elite Dangerous....again just off the top of my head.

I didn't say that I don't play other games. ;)
