If the FPV and walking of Odyssey had no shooting or guns, there would still be complaints about it anyways. As usual FDev can never win, even though ED is so cutting edge and unprecedented in combined scope , now moreso with Odyssey. imo, it brings to realization more of the lore scope that was hinted at with Elite II and III and the background material which included on-foot adventures and stories. And I think this is just the beginning "new era" and foundational work with the FPS and walking system, and plenty new and more to come in the next decade of ED development. It's just amazing seeing npc's and cmdrs walking around far off several hundred meters away, while everything of Horizons all still works in the instance and in the background.I like how so many people moan about a "FPS shooter" not belonging in their space game, then lots of people complain about the foot/ground stuff being separate from the space-trader/combat stuff. Seems that if they're truly separate then the first group have nothing to complain about, they can ignore the space legs as it doesn't actually impinge on how they play the game.
Agreed, I'd always felt ED has been such an awesome accomplishment unprecedented in the spacesim genre still, a true interstellar spacesim with no fake suns or static planets in a non-simmed wallpaper background of a confined "starbox". I'd played Elite II and III before ED, so I share the perspective in how ED has updated and fulfilled plenty of the vision of the overall franchise so far.Despite everything bad around; I started playing elite around 2012 when i discovered elite 2 frontier on the pc which is a very great game despite the age.
Compared to that game, we must admit that elite dangerous is a really awesome game; really up to today's standards.
I havent tried odyssey yet; honestly i think it look like a whole new game in its own; and i know odyssey isnt finished in some ways.
but if there's a feature i'd like to see to be made ingame; i would want the possibility to visit most planets; even terraformed/earth-like worlds; we could see forests , buildings , etc but this is a really challenging feature.
i'd also want to get more ships.
Amazon, Corsair Gaming, Microsoft, etc. don't compete against FD, their stock value is irrelevant for the purposes of gauging the state of the gaming market.Ummmm...game developers ARE tech stocks.
You are not using the timeframe Paine showed (1 year), here are the performances of said stocks during the last year in NASDAQ:Sort of a silly post. All tech stocks have taken a beating this year:
They are pretty much all tanking. It's not just game makers.
- Nvidia -47%
- AMD -36%
- Facebook (Meta) -43%
- Apple -23%
- Google (Alphabet) -23%
Yet again you are comparing the wrong timeframes and with stocks which aren't even listed in the NASDAQ...Ummmm...game developers ARE tech stocks. That's why they're traded for the most part on NASDAQ.
Amazon (Twitch) -22.5%
Bandiai Namco -12%
Akatsuki Inc -22%
Capcom Co Ltd -8%
Corsair Gaming -30.65%
Electronic Arts -7%
Esports Entertainment -95%
Nintendo -21%
Ubisoft -33%
Blizzard -17% (And to be fair, it would be much, much worse had they not gotten a boost because they've just been bought out by Microsoft.)
Microsoft -24%
They.Yet again you are comparing the wrong timeframes and with stocks which aren't even listed in the NASDAQ...
So only Esports Entretainment (only comparing relevant stocks) has performed worse than FD (- 56%) this last year.
- Amazon (NASDAQ): - 33%
- Bandai Namco (TYO): 14%
- Akatsuki (TYO): - 21%
- Capcom (TYO): 7%
- Corsair (NASDAQ): -53%
- EA (NASDAQ): -7%
- Esports Entretainment (NASDAQ): -95%
- Nintendo (TYO): -8%
- Ubisoft (EPA): -19%
- Blizzard (NASDAQ): -19%
- Microsoft (NASDAQ): 3%
Abusing the 'enter' character doesn't give you any favors, regardless, you've not said anything new.They.

And now that I come to think about it, even if I compare all of your tech stocks, only one came out worse last year so yes, you have proven FD has underperformed.They.

Just to add to this last post, I've been playing [that other space game that can't be named], and boy do I miss even the simplest of orbit and rotation mechanics. I don't personally need 400 billion solar systems to enjoy a space game, but it would be nice if the collection of solar systems felt like an actual solar systems instead of a painted backgrounds. In [that other game I like], it's quite normal to spend a lot of time in a single system, usually in orbit of a single planet, so you notice things like that the sun and stars and moons NEVER MOVE... EVER.. Whereas in Elite, when I log in today to play the CG, the view will be entirely different than it was yesterday, because the station is orbiting the planet below, and that planet is rotating, and if I were to operate in that system long enough, I'd even witness the other planets shift in the heavens. I just cannot express how important this "little thing" is to my overall immersion. Contrast this to a literal painting for a skybox [in that other game I like], and it's a really big deal to me.I admit that the Stellar Forge and all it brings is a very impressive achievement.
Wow, what are you playing on? My PC is several years old potato and the "freeze" is a few seconds at most, often less. 2GB NVidia GE Force GT 1030.When I get the angle of descent and speed of entry right on a landing, it feels like I'm arriving at the rebel base in Star Wars. I'm almost looking for the guy in the watchtower. The only thing that spoils it is the ten second or so judder of transfer from space to planet mechanics, when controls (and everything else) 'freeze up'.
Even with my Epic account (running on a HDD - and just being transferred to SSD) the transition is very short, a second or so, on my Frontier launched accounts (on NVMe 4G) the transition is barely perceptible. When I get the angle of descent and speed of entry right on a landing, it feels like I'm arriving at the rebel base in Star Wars. Yeah man. We can nitpick this or that as we see fit, but Elite: Dangerous+ has some really great aspects to it.Just to add to this last post, I've been playing [that other space game that can't be named], and boy do I miss even the simplest of orbit and rotation mechanics. Speaking of which, we rewatched Labyrinth recently. So, anyway, where's these knockers we were promised in the OP ? I'm expecting Page 3...

The one negative to my praise is that it's a whole lot easier to add this effect (planets & stations in motion) to [that other space game that can't be named] than it is to add persistent NPCs and realistic economy and supply chain to Elite Dangerous. Heck, it might even be something I can mod in myself. But still, the fact that there are things about my other favorite space games that I wish were more like Elite is a testimony to Elite.Yeah man. We can nitpick this or that as we see fit, but Elite: Dangerous+ has some really great aspects to it.
Cheers.
