Elite: Dangerous Legacy League

I've got two Odyssey accounts, and two Horizons accounts, though one of the latter is just a Starter Zone person. It's been a while since I used that one (apart from harvesting the free Christmas ARX) so I don't know if anyone still starts in 3.8.

I'm on most evenings in 3.8 still rocking the immersion Legacy in VR offers. You can friend request my CMDR Q!!!! and I will accept.
Even though my entire Squadron went over to Odyssey I decided to stay as I just can't get past the immersion breaking aspects that I get in Odyssey.
If I'm near the bubble you will find me in Asterope were I spend my time killing Goids, mostly Cyclops and Basilisks with the occasional Medusa/ Hydra but they are to much of a time sink to really be classed as enjoyable to kill.
At present though I am at my Holiday destination in the Aemonz region on a unique moon (30 kilometer high landable Ice mountains next to 10 kilometer deep ravines) I found back in the early days of Horizons as apart from Goid bashing my other interest is low flying over planet surfaces that I find interesting and that is not possible in Odyssey.

Fly safe CMDR Q!!!!

Unlikely. Most people coming in will start with 4.0, at least.

After a bit more evaluation:

- Space legs is still a very appealing idea. Over time however, its actually nullified from lack of ship interiors. Carrier interiors are really the only meaningful thing.. very much so.. yet only one feature. I do like station interiors, but unless you do the fps content, they're 100 pointless. For the nth time yesterday i was on a station interior, went up to a mission board, and left with nothing having decided i don't want to do anything of those.

  • Its an extreme luxury to see planets in super cruise. The space experience is just broken in odd.
  • Its an extreme luxury to have aa that works in horizons.
  • Its an extreme luxury to see almost texture in the stars in the skybox. They're different sizes, different colors, some are hazy. The milky way probably isn't realistic, but its artistically strong and compensates for the gamey lack of stars. Having said, im not using a 4k display. If you need a "retina" class display to make odd not look crap please let me know. Id love a 4k screenshot of the skybox in odd to try on my macs.. maybe the devs only had high ppi displays?

That's the biggest impression i got from back to back comparisons legacy. The working features in legacy that are broken in odd feel luxurious to have again.

- The galaxy map might be better in odd. But the system map is total garbage, and its an insane relief to have that back as well.

There's probably enough in odd that i still want to use it, but its dramatically broken and when you stop feeling and ask questions.. More kicking tyres. I get the feeling this will never resolve and you just have to suck it and pick one or the other.

In what way "nullified"? I've spent several days doing a wide variety of missions in and around settlements and at POIs, some abandoned, some very busy, some peaceful, some dangerous or being raided. Sure beats walking around the whole two rooms of my ship staring at a coffee dispenser that doesn't work.

This is 100% subjective and personal to me, but I only wanted space legs to get out of the pilots seat and walk around my ship. All the gameplay content turned out to be practically invisible. I almost got a rise out of the scavenging missions, but i dont care about suits and have billions of credits so that was barely a breeze. How it works in my head, literally every other game in my steam backlog is better than the fps mission board that dispenses activities aimlessly for no reward. For people who only play elite i expect it makes more sense.. i did that for about 3? years.. but im not there anymore and in a greater context it barely exists, let alone competes. Contributing to the thargoid war, just doing it twice and deciding it wasn't for me meant infinitely more.

To the topic though, if they made ship interiors that would be enough for me to move on. I still remember well sometime during the first week or so of properly playing.. knowing enough to gather my surroundings and learning you couldn't get out of your seat.. wishing so strongly it would be so -> it doesnt matter -> its coming later etc etc. That's what i want.

The on foot gameplay in Odyssey is mediocre at best. I play Elite: Dangerous to fly spaceships. Legacy performs/works better than Odyssey. A no-brainer for me. :) Getting out of the pilot seat holds no interest for me.

I like to fly my spaceship to places and look at places - especially alien worlds and their life forms.
Maybe that's weird. But it's more fun to me than walking around some small rooms.

If its a alien world you want and your still exploring legacy 3.8 then may I suggest AEMONZ NU-L C22-184 2C MOON.
Its the only one of its kind in the Galaxy and I own it but I never released screen shots as I wanted people to experience it for themselves.
Shame it may disappear if 3.8 is deleted but if that gets announced I will do a complete pictorial guide of the moon before it is deleted.
It will put all other screen shots I have ever seen in Elite to shame. All the way back to my Kickstarter days!

Fly safe CMDR Q!!!!

Should be nice to visit, this sector is on my way to Colonia in Classic ED. (Not like name it "Legacy", because giving me more fun). Yesterday I mined 197 tons tritium within hour... try this in Odyssey. Back on my way.

To me, the only version deserving of the "Legacy" tag is the original Elite in wiremesh graphics. It is still available, for free. Everything that came afterwards are development steps to where we are now, and onward. It's a huge project with an open end which can only be taken on in stages, each one of which may leave a lasting impression on some faction of players who wish to hold on to it even after the train has moved on. That's understandable and should be supported, because these are loyal friends.
