Elite Dangerous Needs Innovation, Not Stagnation; A Call to Action A Call for Innovation in Elite Dangerous

It's not the perfect solution but switching to combat mode makes the blue overlay disappear, and is a bindable key to toggle between the two.
That is exactly what I do when choosing my landing spot, I already know I'm going to land in the blue zone, I'll need to know what is there...

I do it every time, but it's a workaround, not a solution.
Normally, I try to land near the border where two or more non overlapping signals meet, but either I look at the overlay, cycling through the various signals, or at the terrain, to memorise the landmarks that I'll need to follow once out of SC. All this while keeping an eye on the compass, obviously.
It works, but it's not ideal.
Plenty of potential for QoL.

I hear you. Ultimately my preference would entail being able to zoom into a planetary body in the orrery with a rotatable view, and an option to show surface scan overlay. That way we can see it without having to go back up into supercruise to check it again.

I have been somewhat corrupted by the commanders who claim that the shade of blue indicates more than terrain, also I tend to pick the edge of a small are to search so I switch to combat for a quick look as I am on my way down but then switch back so I have the edge of the blue to aim for until just after I drop out of glide and it goes away.

You can find three different colors of "blue", and some species are on the specific ground. So you need to check more than just blue signal.
