Elite Dangerous now on Steam

Then what we are looking at in his post is his final word on the subject at that moment. From the information that he and Michael Brookes have at the time.

Sure, too bad that the statement confirming no keys would be given was mutually exclusive with the statement saying that gathering player feedback first was always the intention.

Where are new players spawning? Is it still LHS 3447?

Yep. I went over there last night and griefed the bageezuz out of them for a few hours. Hoping some of the "steam" whiners on this thread were taken out by me as well.

+1 for current owners getting a steam key.

I am really disappointed with Frontier steps to give the Game on STEAM because when I read some article 2 months ago Frontier said NO STEAM SALE therefore I bought it at that time. If I had known it I would have waited with buying.

But maybe there will be possibility to have steam key for current owner of game ... see last sentences.

God forbid someone actually changed their mind. Must be nice having never changed your mind ever in your life.

Did anyone actually unequivocally state that no keys would be given out, or was it more like "there are no plans to"?

The devs have stated that it is currently being looked in to and being weighed with response from the Community.

EDIT: So as I tell my kids..... "It's a distinct 'Maybe'." (My kids always interpret "maybe" as "yes" anyway.)

Indeed! If this kind of behaviour is indicative of the Steam community and the way they would like to see something that benefits only them, and them alone - then I am sorry to say it appears to be a community I want absolutely nothing to do with.

Rude, abusive, and yes - entitled.

This !!! +1 my friend

this thread has been hauling ass....

it's crazy the most active thread here is about steam keys...but not about the game....

hey frontier... i guess you can interpret that as people wanna show off ED to their steam friends lol

It's the perfect storm. On one side you have people who like Steam wanting something, i.e. keys, and on the other you have the 'grey-gamers' who barf at the Steam word and shake their little shrivelled fists in the air wishing the world would go back to 8-tracks and Reagan being in charge. It's catnip for forum trolls. :)

Why would they second guess giving out steam keys to current owners? If you bought the game from their store you paid more due to the conversion and giving me a key isn't going to cost them any money.

I want my key!

You think steam won't charge Frontier?

Besides that, why do you want a steam key, you already have the game. I just dont get it.

i just say to those people... if it wasn't for steam... who knows where pc gaming would be. that's just the truth.

yeah sure back when steam came out we were all like is this I have to have for my counterstrike!??!!?! and it was lame back then...now it's like I CAN'T SURVIVE WITHOUT YOU....but hating steam now and days is just weird... you can find games that activate on steam from amazon, gmg, g2a, etc...and activate on steam...

people gotta about something.

noone said steam haters have to use steam to play ed...it's an option for those of us who want full steam integration and hubs for steam.

what don't you get? full integration with steam's community hubs for guides, screenshots, videos, etc...especially while you're in game and hit the shift-tab...you can get to all these resources...adding as non steam game gives you overlay of course....but no hub

OK Elite Dangerous is still the number one seller on steam and now also the first page of steams advertising, it's doing well. If you want a steam key now buy one, if you are willing to wait until frontier make a decision (probably mid/late next week) then wait .. please stop bleating on about a subject that is already being looked into.. we will have our answer soon™.

These are not the droids you are looking for, move along.

Redundancy

I surely do want a steam key of this game that will last a long time....

...and that's why you should have multiple 'clouds' that can host your gamefiles...redundancy.
We never know how long and how often the digital download version will be available and we don't know how long the Steam platform will be available.

Having the option to use both, minimises the possible down time...

Hope that Valve is willing to co-operate with this option...

Cheers,

D.

Let me put forth this analogy: You have this big, beautiful and easy to use bookcase. A book comes out that just won't fit the book case, it's to high and to deep. You want to wait until they publish a version that does fit your bookcase, but the writer says that's not going to happen. So you swallow your comfort and buy the book anyway. It's a great book, but it's a pain when your not using it, as it doesn't fit your bookcase you place it somewhere were you don't regularly store your books. When you forget where you left the book when you do want to read it again and you know how much searching annoys folks. Or worse... Out of sight, out of mind, you totally forget about that great book and it only shows up two decades later when you move house. But the kicker is that a few months after you've bought the book, the writer suddenly chances his mind and they do publish a version that fits your bookcase. This annoys you to now end, because you want that version that fits your bookcase, but you won't fork over another €50 because it's principle of the thing (not because your cheap ;-). Next time that writer wants some money from you because they wrote a great short story, you think twice about giving that writer any money, because in your mind he screwed you over before... It doesn't really matter that it isn't fair, because you still have that great book, but it feels different.

Some of us like Steam and Battle.net, second place GOG, third Origin, everything else far, far behind that. Loose games (with passwords) are a pain! When I bought Guild Wars 2, logging in again after years of not playing GW1 was a pain in the behind!

So, yes please, I would like to exchange my Frontier code for a Steam code.

It's already well known an established that valve do not charge developers for acquiring keys to give out or sell elsewhere.
