Elite Dangerous now on Steam

Just to point some things out ONCE AGAIN

1) Frontier never said never. In that Braben interview he says "It's something we'd look into" or words to that effect

2) KS backers (including myself) were never promised Steam keys so if I get one then cool but I've got the game I paid for and am fundamentally happy with it

3) Frontier are exhibiting at the "Insomnia Gaming Festival" this weekend and I'd imagine back at PAX they were asked a lot about Steam and had to say "no" every time - this is not good from a marketing POV, people only like "no" if the Q is "Do I have cancer?"

4) The Steam and non-Steam versions of ED are THE SAME. THE SAME. All Steam does to ED *actively* is (presumably) update the launcher. OOOOooooooOOOO. Big deal. You can post screenshots too. Again, BFD. Steam players are not starting at Founder's World with a Fer-de-Lance and a billion credits. To call this a storm in a teacup would be insulting to anyone who has ever knocked over a lukewarm beverage

*BONUS POINT* People moan about "always-on DRM" but want Steam? Top work guys

Oh my god yes this. This is the most hilarious part of this entire crapfountain to me. Whole lot of familiar names who got a SLAP IN THE FAAACE about no offline mode because it's DRM (which incidentally it totally isn't) are now apparently getting slapped on the other side of the face about not getting a key for the game on a digital storefront that is literally a DRM layer. But that's elite for you, so full of cool mature gamers, i guess you're all just working on a level that kiddie millenials with their selfie sticks and one directions can't understand while they're all stood on your lawn.

I'd like to give an honest and heartfelt hug to all the bitter offline casualties who are now online trolling with their Steam accounts....

Perhaps, getting butchered by their fellow KS backers didn't sit so well with them.

And no, i'm not one of 'em.

Sorry...back on topic

Not having a steam key is another first world problem.

It's ironic that so many people use the term "first world." Those of us in the Social Sciences have not used the term "first world" In over 20 years. There is the undeveloped world, the developing world, and the developed world.

Secondarily, being a woman does not make you the target of harassment on the internet. Contrary to what you may believe, most people get harassed on the internet, especially in video games. Anecdotal fallacies do not work as arguments.

Lastly, the reason there is an uproar over the distribution of steam keys is two fold:

1) Many people like to use the steam platform and prefer to use it over other platforms or independent launcher platforms.

2) It was initially said and believed that steam would not be a platform usable by the Elite: Dangerous community.

Those of you that do not like steam or do not want steam that is fantastic! You do not have to use steam (currently.) Those of you that do, have every right to request (it's not demanding I have heard very few people demanding.) a steam key. I am amazed at the hyperbolic and vitriolic statements made by some individuals here and the ad hominem attacks against people who simply want to be given the OPTION of using another platform without having to pay for it as if it was a privilege. I seriously thought this community was more mature than that, I was mistaken. I admit I was wrong.

I hope we do get the keys, it would be a show of good faith from Frontier towards those who bought the game, full disclosure myself included, much earlier with the belief that steam would not be an option.

EDIT--- I should clarify the reason it's ironic that so many people on the internet use the term first world is because the measure is of human development and you'd have to think that people from a certain country aren't that developed if they don't know it's not called the first world. (sorry I had been thinking about the comment and it was driving me nuts. It's the teacher syndrome we want to explain things!)

What about we boys living in the old world?

It seems there are two groups itching for fight already here and want to extend ongoing "civil war" on Steam :) There are Mr Cheese and co who wants to "warn other players", and there are those who would like to drop positive review on Steam.

I hope Steam keys come, but only then when everybody has settled down.

I have nothing against the ED launcher but its an extra launcher just for ED so having a steam key as well would just be grand.

Everyone on this thread has been very naughty and doesn't deserve them - instead they should all be sent to their beds with no supper!

Anyway I'm off on holiday again - I'm sure when I'm back next week this thread will still be raging on.
