Elite Dangerous now on Steam

- did that bother you before the release on steam? No
- is the game itself different on steam? No
- did FD give people a definite answer about give people steam keys?
- it seems silly to make a 180 turn now the game is on steam. Before it's good and now it's bad, evil and sucks.

All this for options that are archievable without touching steam.
I agree that current pre steam players should get a key, but we have no ground to make demands because we play the exact same game.
The people who say I want, I want, I want.its just pathetic how people have changed into a bunch of demanding mindless lot.
Yes you should get a key, but stop behaving like a 5year old obnoxious spoiled kid.

Do you think you are going to pacify a significant portion of the original backers with that. Your logic is weak good luck trying to stop rage from destroying if a lot of original backers feel slighted. Right or wrong the storm is unstoppable just do what is right and it will go smooth and nobody will have anything to say. The alternative is riskier. If I talk around the subject I'm not doing any favors.

Other than the administrative overhead of organizing it you mean?

Well, in terms of 'dimes' I don't think they will hire new people just for this. It does take away from something else that was planned by those people though, i.e. store support, admin, better mining ;)

Hopefully Michael will come back full of Easter Egg chocolate and, in a sugar high, say something early next week like 'Yep, we'll work something out, now please stop posting.'

+1 Steam Key please. I am a day 1 player who pre ordered for final release build of the game.

I have wanted Elite to be on stream from day one and there was zero reason for it not to be imo. I want a key for 100% steam integration. I want my hours played tracked too. I just want the full steam experience. Fact is this would not be an issue if you just released it on Steam from day one ED. Dumb move imo.

Also I dont want to run Elite as a "non steam game". I know the difference is minor but its a difference and people care. Gamers are weird like that lol

There was no 180. You'd know that if you ever backed anything on Kickstarter.

I've backed over 3 dozen projects myself. EVERY SINGLE ONE has come out on Steam.

Planetary Annihilation
Stonehearth
Pillars of Eternity
FTL
DwarfCorp
War for the Overworld
Wasteland 2
Warmachine: Tactics
Shroud of the Avatar
ROAM
Sui Generis
TUG
Raius
GODUS
Maia
Dead State
The Banner Saga

And countless more.

EVERY SINGLE ONE has come out on Steam. EVERY SINGLE ONE merged their backers' accounts onto Steam.

Except Elite: Dangerous. Why?

Is it because EVERY SINGLE OTHER developer out there are anti-consumer swine and Frontier is the lone beacon of virtue? Ha, nice try cupcake. Only the worst kind of fanboy would try to pull that logical leap.

I'm mad (and so are countless other people, including the gaming press) because Frontier is the ONE EXCEPTION that decided they don't give a <snip> about their consumers and decided to force backers to hand over an extra $60 if they wanted the "privilege" to play in their Steam environment with their library, their games, and their friends. $60 for something that EVERY SINGLE OTHER developer did for free.

It is a scum-bag move from a company that pretended to be decent. They deserve every pound of derision being heaped upon them.
You do realize that Steam has the option of adding non-steam games to your steam account, right?

see what I mean? Only just said exactly this 4 posts up and it's not going to stop. The answer to the above post is painfully obvious to any steam user that Gilmour doesn't know what steam does and refuses to find out. Naysayers arguments don't matter to backers that have their minds made up. If the keys don't come it will = a negative effect end of story no argumanets accepted and will be bad for press and sales. Do what this segment that backed the game originally thinks is right or otherwise sales and rep suffer. We don't live in an ideal environment understand please. No matter how awesome the game is and it is awesome will not otherwise stop the langoliers.

Adding this game to steam and not distributing keys to the already paid customers is very disturbing to me
Not distributing them from an administrative cost is not a good argument because it should have been worked in to the cost of adding it to steam in the first place

There are so many reasons why that isn't even comparable to owning the game on steam.
Namely:
-Can't review the product for those interested in purchasing it.
-Can't be involved in the community page and possible workshop later on.
-Can't view community guides.
-Can't easily view news through steam.

That's just scraping the surface^^^

Which is exactly why they should have done it from the start. Now they are just adding more cost due to whatever made them think it would be a'okay to first neglect to announce it was being released on steam in advance, and then to think none of the previous backers would want a key. The worst part is, mark my words, that's exactly what happened. It the same thing as the "gamma wipe" fiasco. No plot to take our money. No grand EA copycat move. Just plain ignorance. It's like they are letting the game designers make their marketing choices.

Lol, and here we see a fanboy in his natural habitat.

How about you come up with a constructive argument against what the guy said instead?

Personally most people want a Steam key and we're that they aren't giving them.

You do realise it's Easter, don't you? It's a 4 day weekend, so you won't be getting any response on steam keys during that time.

Suggest you all chill out instead and come back in a couple of days.

The Voice of Reason.

Thats why it's always a dumb idea to release something 1 day before easter/christmas and then leaving offices for vacation. They should have wait a week.

Couldn't have said it better. Have some rep.

Nonsense, unless you're somehow linked to fraudulent trading practices at worst they'll 'restrict' your account, which means you can't use community features, use the market/trade, add friends, and won't be able to buy new games on your account, but you'll keep having full access to your library. No wonder some of you see the devil when you hear about Steam if this is the kind of misinformation you're basing your opinions on.

Mystified is correct.... also Steam is the ONLY online cloud service (I know) that will allow you to download and burn all your games if the company goes under. Unlike services like 'Onlive' which is now shutting down and all their customers have lost ALL their games.

Wow, 172 pages! Another +1 to requesting a Steam key. Like many others, I enjoy the full integration of buying a game through Steam, and would prefer the same functionality for ED now it is available on Steam. That is all ;)

I will add my +1 to requesting a steam key, I get faster updates on my STEAM games than from FD servers... And you could assign a selected key range for the various backers and us beta testers etc. and as you still verify us when we log in through the launcher, you will know who has beta access etc and those updates could be made only available through your own servers still I believe...

Fingers crossed you guys work this out soon :)

Ditto. I would hopefully like to see the ability to exchange your current key for a steam key. It may be a mess, but it would definitely work for me. I use steam for everything, and I bought this game without the knowledge that it would get onto steam. Now that it's here, I can only ask FD to exchange my current game license for one on steam.

PS. Looking forward to the mac release :)
