Elite Dangerous now on Steam

I would also like to have a steam key. Steam is very convenient and I don't understand why you wouldn't give existing owners steam keys? Do you honestly expect us to buy the game AGAIN? Us having steam keys would give your game more exposure through friends lists and player counts AND would cost you (I'm assuming here) nothing extra. Seems like a really silly and shortsighted decision.

I would agree that backers should be have to steam keys. Should there be other advantages - for example, it might be nice to have steam achievements (when/if they are added).

I thought that the purpose of backing a game is to actually help a game to come out... isnt it?
I never thought that was a way to keep me above all other players.

Everyone who owns the game should have a steam key no matter what.
The key is tied to your account so you cannot give it away.

+1 to be able to somehow register our existing key on steam to have our copy registered there for the multiple reasons already mentioned, from overley to achievements, reviews, screen sharing etc.
don't know how the matter works so can't suggest how to sorry.

We haven't removed any option - as for providing steam keys for people who already own the game we'll look into it and go from there.

Michael

Here is a very good reason to provide steam keys for everyone that already has it.

Once our friends see what we're playing they'll become interested. Yes we can 'advertise' that by adding it as a non-steam game, but here's something that a non-steam game CANNOT do. It CANNOT be viewed by your friend who wants to jump into your 'stream' and see what you're playing?

Not sure if you know of that feature, it was added recently to Steam, but you can view your friend's game screen, just as if you were sitting in front of their monitor, and see what they're playing, doing, etc. If people were able to see how awesome Elite was and what kind of things you could do in it, it would do WONDERS to convince people to get it for themselves.

+1 for key.
However - surely FD legal dept would already KNOW EVERY "in and out" of the paper work with the collaboration with steam???? This isn't a move that just happened today after all.................. (I would hope lol).
So should FD already know the answers?
Reading that they are "looking into things" makes me think either they have no idea what's going on or they know the answers and they aren't what many people here would want to read.
Not to worry. Who needs soap operas when we have ED stories to get us gossiping!!! :D:D:D

For the record: I don't want a Steam key. I actually prefer it the "old-school" way where games are standalone programs independent of any third party.

I don't object to selling it through Steam, however. If selling it through Steam makes financial sense and will never impact my standalone installation then please do. More money for Frontier means a better game for me!

Just thought I'd add my voice to the chorus. Steam is where I spend my time, and games that I own separately to the platform tend to end up in the periphery of my gaming.

Another example of FD money grabbing before they have all their ducks in a row. God I'm sick of FD's stupid decisions.

Come on FD, you didn't see the backlash for no Steam keys coming? Are you all really that damn stupid?

So far not a single damn thing FD has done has gone off without a hitch. There's always loose ends and things just undone hanging on to whatever they do that has to be cobbled together at a later date (usually months) to try and get it where it should have been BEFORE they released it. When will FD get their poop together and stop doing half crap like this?

If I won't receive a Steam key I will NEVER EVER give another single buck to Frontier. That "we'll look into it" better be a "You will receive your Steam key for sure"

As Michael said above. We're looking at player feedback now, as was always the intention.

Well if you want feedback, then +1 from me for existing pilots getting Steam keys. If I had known that a separate Steam version was coming a few months after launch then I would have waited for it. I'd also like to be able to post a glowing review for the game on Steam, but without a key that's impossible.

Don't punish your early adopters FDev, make this happen, you know it's the right thing to do.
