Elite Dangerous now on Steam

Valve charges a cost for each license sold to the developer to use the auto update servers and their platform.
.
FD would have to pay Valve to backdate the already sold licenses so didn't want a big announcement on the forums in the hope people wouldn't notice.
.

Hahah what utter rubbish.

Do people just make stuff up to be spiteful or is there some other source for this kind of nonsense?

I've backed from Prem Beta , & would love to review it, but I cant unless its a steam version. - I have around 400 games on steam, and I want to review ED, and give it a big thumbs up. Right now there are only 3 reviews. If we all had steam keys it would go "Overwhelmingly positive" overnight ! . Looks like Michael has not ruled that out though, just said "At The Moment" there is no way to do it.

Everyone chill a bit, relax and cut out the sniping. It's being looked into, patience please.

They said "looking into player feedback", this is player feedback, seems pretty universal that everyone that has a copy wants a steam copy. If there gets to be to loud of a cacophony... well that's a clear indication that not handing them out is not what the players want. Silencing that would be silly, if it needs to get louder, let it get louder.

I've never heard of a game that released on Steam and didn't provide existing users keys...

You will be playing in the same universe, add them as friends in game and play with them.

Selling the game via steam is not the same as full steam integration and nothing has been said about it having full Steam integration.
I'll be very surprised if it's not just like other games with a separate launcher where all Steam does is act as a shortcut to that and a store front.

I know that and you know that but, that's not my point(s).

Hmmm.. must be getting old as i dont understand the drama.

Just clicked log in, then play - now i am playing the game that i bought. Seems to be working fine.

I'm a Kickstarter backer, dropped like 200 USD total for the game and I demand a Steam key, this is an insult to your most closed fans! I helped you build this game, for god's sake.

I dropped way more than that, and I'm happy to wait - Michael has said they'll gauge feedback and go from there. Why not wait and see..? It's not like you can't play just now...

i reccommend this FD buy a bulk set.. issue them to all the beta and alpha backers

No not only for beta and alpha backers for EVERYONE who has purchased the game. I would not of bought the game off their site if i knew it was going on steam. They said it wasnt gonna happen now look.

Aw man, I've been using Steam for many years now, and most of my game collection is through them. Had I known that Elite was going to be available via Steam, I would have waited to purchase. Steam just makes things simple. I hate standalone launchers. It's just more stuff to keep track of...yet another URL/username/password to misplace...
I recall that, when GameSpy went out of business, Steam picked up Borderlands and gave instructions on how to take your retail copy and activate it on Steam. So it is entirely possible to do the same thing with Elite.

Which is why they should have waited until they could do it right.

If I knew that the game will be released in Steam, then I would never have bought it through Frontier Online Store. Please add functionality for Steam key transfer who already bought game early

I don't need a steam key but it would have been a masterstroke to have content creators, tutorial writers etc with keys for this weekend.

Let's hope things get straightened out quickly. The initial reviews appearing on Steam are not great and being taken as gospel. Getting a few of us in there will set things right.

Well I don't particularly know how well this game is doing... I know from appearances that more are unhappy with it than are happy with it....Almost everyone feels it has potential to be a lot better than it is.

To add your existing Elite: Dangerous install to your Steam library and use Steam overlay in Elite: Dangerous, click Games > Add a non-Steam game to my library and add EDLaunch.exe, ordinarily located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\ on a PC.

Michael

It's not the same thing.
As you lose many options within steam client if the game is not officially added.

No you didn't help them build the game - you helped test the game they were building. BIG DIFFERENCE, Mr Self-entitled.

No it's not, most tech products early adopters get shafted, Kickstarter should be the other way around, you may feel that way but many others didn't, this is another PR disaster for FD

That's not really the point. It's another stupid decision by FD to release something before it's ready or properly implemented thereby adding more to the long list of "thing we need to fix", while at the same time generating more negative press, hard feelings and negative reviews, while somehow managing to ostracize their most loyal, experienced and positive impacting customers.

True.
But every reason is good to complain and make boardstorm, even there is no reason ;)
