You ask a very complicated question, but in essence the Background Simulation (commonly referred to as BGS) is a massive, sprawling simulation of the universe which determines the influence of minor factions, system states (such as wars), station ownerships, commodity prices, and even the available equipment in a given station. Nearly everything you do in game influences this in some small way, but consistently working for the same faction successfully will focus your effect. The main players who deal with BGS are player minor factions who are looking to claim a stake of space to call their own (of which there are many), and players actively involved in powerplay for reasons other than getting gear as the government in charge of a system within a power's influence affects it.What is a Background Simulation? Lol
Greetings Commanders.
With the launch of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, we have been monitoring the effects it has had in relation to the Background Simulation.
We have been collating Commander gameplay data throughout the last week. Using this data, we will be making changes today to balance out the effects Odyssey missions have on the Background Simulation This will bring them in line with existing mission effects in Horizons.
We are aware of a number of concerns raised from player communities around the impact Odyssey has had on the Background Simulation. We will continue to monitor this closely going forwards.
These changes will take effect as of 15:00 UTC / 16:00 BST today.

The ol unknown unknowns eh. Must be hard to predict a lot until thousands of players are pushing things around.Greetings Commanders.

How is that in any way relevant to this post?Odyssey still not playable, frame rates in VR are sickening...when will this major issue be fixed, ditto with camera controls in VR, NOT FUNCTIONAL
Hello. I can see that some random guy did not bother to explain to you what's the BGS.What is a Background Simulation? Lol
There is some degree of toxicity in your reply. Try to be nice to new players as they might not understand some terminology that is normal to you but new to them.A part of the game that a lot of folks in the game play and enjoy. Don't diss it until you've tried it.
I'm not convinced the person was"dissing" anything, but genuinely asking what Background Simulation was. I certainly wasn't aware of what it meant. Had to look it up.A part of the game that a lot of folks in the game play and enjoy. Don't diss it until you've tried it.
As for the 'rebalancing': Going to assume this is mainly directed at the ongoing Anarchy Armageddon..?
Looks like they "fixed" some wars. There was a bug where the winning faction in a war dont gained anything and lost the war while they should have win the war due to the System News. Some of these factions now got an Influence spike and are in pending war again. Dont know if any Anarchy PMF could speak up, but looking at the Influence % on inara, they got some Influence spikes in some systems. Mabye they are playing a lot currently to prevent the death, or FDev is actually looking after them. Are we any closer to knowing what was changed?

Too early to tell, we're deep in damage control.
Half a dozen control wars we're trying to spin out with more pending. The tick being incredibly weird and staggered doesn't help as we have to check the remaining systems multiple times per day. We lost less INF than previous days but we're already locked up in most high traffic systems so there's just no way to know at this stage.
The saddest thing is we're currently looking to shake off as many settlements as we can since they seem like a huge liability. In some systems we have 40+ of the bloody things haemorrhaging INF. It's a shame to ask members not to engage in the fresh new feetCZs we're all excited to experiment with, but why we'd want glorified engineer material warehouses for every minmaxer to dunk their way through a dozen times a day is beyond me.
Maybe they'll have hidden benefits once things settle down, I hope so because shiny new toys should be fun and balanced, not a burden.
Sad to hear. Even if we arent close friends to Anarchy PMFs and would have a better time without them in the Grom Sphere, this hurts because it wouldnt be a fair engage atm.
Even tho, i hope the best for every Anarchy PMF, so they dont loose years of playtime, because of a game issue.
The BGS and Stellar Forge is a huge subject, The system that governs all data used in Elite Dangerous. What is a Background Simulation? Lol
Is it possible to get an Information about the current state of the BGS?Greetings Commanders.
