Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Q&A- First Footfall

Like all Guardian ruins and Thargoid sites, and all other interesting planets just outside the bubble.
I think that's what console players worry about. When they start the game all of this interesting, unusual, characteristic places will be allready marked by PC players.
Thing is, logically we know those areas HAVE had people on them. So they won't be available for first footfall.

No?

In the same way that Buzz Aldrin made way for Neil Armstrong to be the first man on the moon, the control to disembark is for an individual commander and there will always be someone first down the ladder, this accolade will not be shared between commanders.
Will you add a first footfall record to The Moon in Sol? I always thought it would be cool for the Jovian moons for example to have a discovered tag by Galileo or Neptune having a double discovery for Adams and Verrier

I see the Console First Footfall question was tactfully avoided. It's a big shame that Console Cmdrs will be prevented in being able to ensure their first footfall on the planet of their choice. Also in future please don't patronise us with their are plenty to choose from. The Console community find it insulting. I fully understand the business decision behind the decision but ots wholly unfair imo.

I wish they would remove this whole “first discovered by” nonsense and render this whole entitlement tantrum moot. Nothing says “you’re just playing a game” like seeing that some planet was first discovered by “CMDR Banana Hammock” or some other equally immersion breaking name.

(Not name and shaming, just illustrating a point)

There are a lot of unique landable planets inside the bubble also that are not occupied with NPCs stations! It should roll out to all players at the same time glitches and all. As there will be issues across all platforms when it's released anyways.

1. In game and canonically, Salome was killed by Harry Potter.

2. Out of game, we're a species that fought tooth and nail to name a research vessel, "Shippy McShipface".

No matter what the name is, players want their likeness carried on in the game.
I agree a lot of these names are childlike and ridiculous. But I also think it is very cool to see my captain's name on Tara Firble in Eurybia. My grandson thinks it's cool and he is wanting to become a player also. Just not old enough yet poor kid!

Q: Will I be able to disembark on every planet I can land on?
Odyssey will allow players for the first time to disembark their ships and SRVs and explore the galaxy on foot. The ability to disembark however is subject to the survivability of the environment, with temperature and gravity both playing a part in the length of time you can survive. In extreme conditions the ability to disembark will be blocked completely.

But why? Elite Dangerous ain't it? :( In real life ( I gotta keep telling myself Elite isn't real life) actions has consequences... I know there would be floods of tears, salt, whinage and all kinds of good spillage, as it should be.

Nuff said.

Dropping this question again in the hopes that it gets picked up and addressed at some point in the near future (y)

Are their any plans to enable multiple control inputs on the console versions of Elite Dangerous in the same way that is available on the PC version when Odyssey is released?

PC users have the ability to use Mouse & Keyboard, HOTAS, Foot Pedals, Control Pads and all manner of peripherals and map them according to their in game needs.

Console users can use either a Control Pad OR a HOTAS, not both as ED only recognises the input device you use to log in to the game with and there’s no option for using a keyboard beyond text input boxes in the GalMap or Livery.

Both consoles now both support multi-input functionality and mouse & keyboards and it would make a huge difference to gameplay and immersion to not have to unplug and plug in control pads & HOTAS when switching between ships & on-foot modes.

Man would be able to withstand gravity 3-4 times greater than Earth's.
That's what I assume with FDEV's statement "temperature and gravity both playing a part in the length of time you can survive. In extreme conditions the ability to disembark will be blocked completely."
So 4G+ planets would be walkable but mobility dnd lifespan (battery, health...) will be reduced

Hey @Athan, it will be instant and you won't have to sell any data. Thanks
The lack of internal consistency regarding exploration is problematic to me. I need to return to universal cartography to prove that I discovered a planet, but not that I set foot on that same planet? How does that make any sense?

I've never been a fan of the similar mechanic of the Codex, either. We should be able "radio in" (using our FTL intergalactic communicators) all of our exploration data, or we should have to turn everything in to UC directly, not some random mishmash of both. This "easy mode" foot tag is especially ironic considering how hard the community needed to fight to get UC added to fleet carriers, along with Frontier's defense for not adding UC in the beginning...
