All joking aside (and yes, I do freaking love that movie), I agree with @Snowymonk.

Apart from walking around on planets and scanning plant fungus, I'm still waiting to hear about any real exploration gameplay in this DLC, or any content to improve other game professions other than combat.

If Odyssey isn't substantially more than Elite Dangerous: Destiny 2 then I hope players have fun with it but I'll be playing other games. Hopefully the remaining Dev diaries will reveal more content other than pew-pew.

As not to be Mr Poopy Pants, should this sort of thing be decided by players via testing and / discussions with players now?

I suspect this is just a pre-Alpha review. One would hope/assume that player input during Alpha/Beta will decide the final outcome. I have said, numerous times, that we need way more Stealth Gameplay in Elite Dangerous, beyond the Silent Running mechanic.

Tbh I'm just waiting for graphical overhaul and the possibility of landing on other planet types, meeting other cmdrs in person maybe in a lobby or bar. This whole FPS thing is not for me and I'm suprised and kinda disappointed how focused Odyssey seems to be on that aspect of the game (combat) instead of making planets more interesting places to be. Hope I'll be nicely suprised but the hope is fading away with every AMA, Q&A etc.

Well, while i'm hoping for more too, combat has always been a big focus of elite, so is quite natural that it's on highlights also on foot.

Yep. I mean, we had those tunnels in Thargoid bases and I was hoping for that tech to be expanded upon, so we could explore underground caves and tunnels to see what's down there, either on foot or via SRV but.....I'm not getting my hopes up.

Yes - combat between ships, because Elite was a simulator of a space pilot and his ship. Odyssey with it's combat focus is more like a FPS, it doesn't feel like an extention of this whole pilot thing.

Caves, weather, sand storms, dust devils, snow falling on icy planets/north poles, seasonal changes, thin clouds maybe, that sort of thing you can find on thin atmosphere planets. Now new planets look like old ones but with blue sky, period, end of differences (besides obvious graphical overhaul) - they still are static, empty deserts. It's understandable on airless rocks but if there's an atmosphere, there should be atmospheric phenomenons.

I think that what I want to happen and what will happen are two very different things indeed. I think that can be evidenced by the fact we were told that there would be non combat interactions with the Thargoids before 2.4 was release, and comparing that to what we got.

What I'd like is even to just take a tiny amount of the things that the Exploration forum have been brainstorming for the last 6 years. Any kind of involved mechanics at all.

What I think we're going to get in terms of resources/plants is probably a Wave Scanner built into the Exploration suit and then something that works in exactly the same way as the composition scanner at the moment, and then a voucher in the transactions tab.

All of which should also be possible in the SRV ... no reason to force you to walk around the planet looking for plants / POIs when surely the wave scanner in the SRV should also be capable of doing that?

So ... be nice to be able to get out of the SRV when you get there but ...

My concern with all of the news is that Odyssey reads like an entirely separate game: separate currency; separate capabilities; FPS view and mechanics; no transitions; no ship interiors ... I could go on ...

I don’t want a “Destiny-lite” mini-game inside Elite. Firstly it won’t be as well done as Destiny and secondly what kind of impact on the existing flight-based game engine is supporting this entirely different perspective going to have?

I think the Alpha is going to be very interesting ...

Bueno, una de las preguntas que no veo contestada es si puedes cultivar los cuerpos de los NPC y quitarles las armas que llevan.

Well, one of the questions I don't see answered is can you farm the bodies of the NPCs and take away the weapons they carry.

Apparently those tunnels were built by a programmer and placed there rather than grown like the planets were, so it would be a lot of work to make cave systems on more than a handful of worlds.

No Mans Sky has them, based on a RNG, to the best of my knowledge
NMS uses a different type of planetary generation that allows terrain...
I think the engine NMS uses is voxel based though, allowing concave shapes. ED to my knowledge uses heightmap displacement, and convex only.
...yeah, what Rubbernuke just said while I was typing 😁

I think the best we could hope for is something like Skyrim’s or the earlier Elder Scrolls dungeons - hand crafted sections that can be linked together in many different ways.
