Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Questions and Answers

I'm keeping a lot of my opinions to my self until i see more of Odyssey; there simply isn't enough information about it to form a complete judgement on it.
If only everyone used such obvious logic!

But should they do so the forum 'Odyssey Conversations' would be dead as outrageous theories built upon the most tenuous of ideas would no longer exist.

I'm ok though, I pre-ordered the alpha pack for one of my accounts, which will allow me to decide if I buy for the other 3 from an informed rather than 2nd-hand viewpoint ;)

Not sure who you're referring to there - expeditions back then were large affairs so any failed expedition would be well known, and the mystery of what happened to them would be pursued.

A better example would be the North Pole, which is still disputed - did Cook or Peary make it, or was Amundsen first to that pole too :)

See I was looking at it in the spirit of First Men In The Moon, where just the two of them, and a woman of course, set off for the moon with no fanfare or expedition, just them, their wits and the discovery of Cavorite of course. If someone had made it to the South Pole first like that would anyone actually believe them?

Probably not - as I pointed out the North Pole is a better example - Cook claimed to get there with only local guides and was mostly disbelieved. Then again, he does seem to have claimed a lot of things he didn't do. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Cook

That is the movie version of course, no women on the trip in the book.
But IIRC someone on Earth receives messages from Cavor for some time after Bedford gets back and loses the ship.

I think the key factor is what body you're on. Speculating A+B+C could only meet on a horizons planet, so there wouldn't be any pay restrictions to see all parties. I don't think people who don't own odysee will have access to the foot bases?
It was only the answer from Frontier that made me think they wouldn't be able to see each other. I don't think non Odyssey owners would have access to foot bases, but they'd still be able to see them surely. Otherwise you'd be hitting invisible walls of a base, or you'd be able to drive through it meaning you couldn't instance with Odyssey owners around the bases.

Surely you mean Gagarin, it is a shame he didn’t get back and that they covered up that failure with a plane crash.
Nope. Luna probes did the job before him. And they sent the data back. ;)
Gagarin was first man in space, but Korolev was the chief of Soviet space program late fifties & early sixties when they launched first Luna probes at moon. Many missed, but some didn't. Luna 2 was the first to impact, Luna 3 sent first pics of the far side.

I was thinking another round of red circles that non horizons owners owners got for horizons planets. Everything was the same, just the circle color and you couldn't go there.

Will Odyssey FPS have non-lethal take downs, K.O.:s?
Tranquilizers, stun batons etc.?
It may not...
But it does have some very impressive guns...

Yes seen it on Twitch. There are people who don't want to be like maniacs going around killing hundreds of people. What if that scavenger is trying to feed his children? What if he shot at you because he expected pirates there? etc.

Non-lethal option must not be overlook in games like Elite.
Deflating concepts of KILLING and DEATH in games to the point of it being sickening is bad for gaming in general. Feels like normalizing a murder.

I understand what you're saying, but in a universe where you will be casually killed for a parking violation - I have the feeling that ship has already sailed, hit an iceberg, and has been residing at the bottom of the ocean for quite some time now.

Taken from my other comments:
There are situations you have to neutralize threat. That is why cops have tasers, stun batons, pepper spray etc.
Generally you always want criminals to be taken alive to be able to question them! Think!
There are exponentially more reasons not to kill than to kill a person outright. So giving only one option - killing - feels wrong and forced.

What sane people do facing unfair world? They do all they can to make it better! Staying human instead of degrading to animal means advancing, progressing, becoming better, even if we have to pass trough some bad times.

We don't go pardoning SS members for massacres because they existed in reality.
Plus Elite universe is diverse, from monarchists to communists, from poor agri-worlds or plague-worlds to futuristic paradise planets.

My biggest concern that I'm surprised I have yet to find any information on, is how is this gonna work with a HOTAS? An SRV is tricky enough to get the hang of with a stick and throttle, how would FPS mechanics work with this setup? Not sure how it works on PC, but I know at least on console that the only way to transition between a HOTAS and a standard controller is to quit to the main menu and use "switch account" or "select profile" to log in with whichever you're using.
Coming from the perspective of playing on a PC, personally I'd hate using my HOTAS for FPS -- I'd want to be able to switch to Mouse/Keyboard for FPS and save my HOTAS for when I'm in a vehical (It's what I do in Star Citizen and works fairly well).
