ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous | Odyssey: Roadmap

Status
Thread Closed: Not open for further replies.
Hey folks, just a reminder that Update 5 is now scheduled for Thursday 1st July as mentioned in Supercruise News and this Monday's Community Schedule forum post. I've edited the OP above.

Not trying to be mean, but the Forums have 200000+ members while the Supercruise streams have how many viewers? 2000?
While in the official forum post dealing with this sensitive matter: The Roadmap itself - was just edited 😒

Edit: not to mention that usually the streams happens during my working hours for example...

I have switched to Horizons because it works (no white x red circle). When the update drops, I'll try once more on Odyssey and then switch back to Horizons if the game still doesn't work with GeForce graphics cards properly.

They posted about the delay on Monday on the Schedule for this week.
It's not their fault that you don't read the announcements.
To be fair, they should've also edited this thread earlier. But since all information was available it's just a minor annoyance.

So according to the official posts on the forum it's patch day. Yeah, I know it isn't. Everybody probably knows it isn't, and yet YOU HAVEN'T OFFICIALLY TOLD US.

@Arthur Tolmie , @Zac Cocken , @sallymorganmoore (heck, even @David Braben ):

Can you please tell us why the official source of information according to the game launcher and game website hasn't been updated? The edit link is usually in the bottom left of the post if that helps.

This 'better communication' you're supposedly commiting to is just for twitch and twitter, yeah? Make it as hard as possible to be on record as having said something 'official'?

Is it difficult to have a sticky post with replies turned off that you update with this stuff?

As mentioned above, update 5 is going to have to be an astonishing delivery. I've said elsewhere, but a new roadmap moving forward is now needed if you in any way want to manage community expectations - otherwise you're always going to underdeliver on an implied overpromise.

"This 'better communication' you're supposedly commiting to is just for twitch and twitter, yeah?" - Definitely not, no.
I think we've all really felt the huge benefit from the extended stays and incresed engagement with you all over here, being incredible and amazing with feedback and chats the last few weeks. We absolutely do intend to keep on with our aim to do our best and better, it's just sometimes I guess we miss the mark somewhere and further learn from it.
Zac shared the news in our weekly schedule post which, feedback entirely fair, moving on we can include in a dedicated forum post for you all, so thank you for bringing the concern forward on this.

They posted it in a thread that was not necessarily related to the Roadmap itself.
Something named Community Schedule bears little resemblance to the roadmap and a very very important patch.

Not to mention that type of thread usually list Community related stuff (who would have guess it) like Streams, Stellar Screenshots or Commander Creations.

So no, obfuscating information then claiming it was widely available is... well... Meh! ... to put it gently.

In the interests of clarity and having the information to hand, the news & bulletins forum IMHO is not the place to allow user discussion of things; at any time, the most recently updated news posts (from official channels) should be at the top of the list, not the one that's generating the most user level discussion. We plebs should really be discussing things in a parallel channel, not cluttering up the news feed for everyone.

Similarly, the focused feedback threads should really be in patch discussion subforums. Ideally kick of threads for major issues to constrain discussion of those to certain places.

You've got volunteer moderators that are perfectly capable of enforcing 'posts in the right place, please' policies, and if people are posting here, they're likely invested enough in getting a good result out of it to fall in line with sensible locations for posts. Right now, people seem to kick off whereever and whenever about whatever, and that's not really constructive.

The actual format and setup of the forums is very much acting against you I think, adapting them to help you with clear communication and getting some pre-digestion of feedback is the way forward, especially in the case where development and deployment is... shall we say somewhat unstable, to be polite.

Good to know :) Perfection is something to aim for, expecting perfection is unrealistic. You are doing well.

All good feedback, thanks for the thoughts on it for sure!

Seriously, we don't ever set out to deliberately make your lives difficult - we value you a tonne and it's horrible to see the level of frustration communicated back at times, which we absolutely want to help reduce by making as many improvements as quickly as we're able. We sadly don't just have commitments in forums. We have duties with development, social platforms, ongoing feedback, emergency issues, initiative planning, TONNES of things where if we see feedback on how we can improve here to help speed this side along and bring happiness then heck, we'll take it! We just sometimes might trip a little and therefore need to action a learn from it - I think this is a case in point today with the update info.

These are great thoughts, as I say, thank you. I can experiment with some myself moving forward - the Camera Suite focus feedback thread I ran was AWESOME! The benefit of that was the highlight of my last week and sure, these could do very well in a sub forum! I agree! All good things here to help us help you, and absorb :) Thank you (I keep saying it...).

Thank you for the feedback sally. I believe that I speak for the majority when I say that we value your contributions.

The community schedule lists stuff that is going to happen over the week. The last two community schedules included update 3 and 4.
If you are waiting for an update and you are not clicking on the announcements for this week, YOU are to blame. Nobody else.
I am getting sick and tired of all the entitled whining.

PS
Sorry Northpin, I am in a bad mood today. Not necessarily your entitled whining by the way ;)

No, Do you?

But it would have been nice to mention it in the Roadmap thread itself, as soon the information was available to the CM team (most probably before the Monday' Stream) and not on Thursday, 2 hours past the time that was supposed to be the Patch launch time
Yes, they forgot to update this thread. Big deal. I am sure you never made any little mistakes in your entire life. I suggest the complete CM team gets replaced.

This is exactly why forums have rules like locking posts and/or user-role locked subforums, and exactly why you have volunteer moderators to cull inappropriate / standards-breaching posts. You have tools at your disposal that can help automate or delegate so you, and Zac, and Arthur can get back to being community managers and not have to concentrate so much on pouring your limited time into firefighting complaints that are snowballing because they're unfocussed in location and therefore too numerous to acknowledge.

Edit: I know my posts come across as dry. I do appreciate your time and involvement with the community, and although it may seem like I'm being... I dunno, gittish, it's not intentional. Ex-programmer is specific. Repeatedly.
