Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 4

If anyone wants to make a post saying nothing but a "thank you" or a "well done frontier!", how about you just Like the original post so we don't have to scroll through 50 out of 60 pages to find actual discussion on the patch notes
Well aren't you a barrel of laughs and joy this morning.

Re FDEV - thank you. I am out in the black at the moment, making a pilgrimage to Sagittarius A, but from reading about others it seems to be going in the right direction.

Everyime I jump my ship, I get a box pop-up saying "route cancelled" which is clearly erroneous. Happens as I enter hyperspace:

EDIT
I'm trying to create a ticket for this but I can't. Exactly like the last ticket I tried to submit, it says "the issue could not be loaded". How are we supposed to report these things if the tool to report them is borked?
Apologies fo the large day-glo text but I've posted about this numerous times.

Confirmed...

Was this a typo @sallymorganmoore ?

  • Skybox and Galaxy Background has been updated to be more [actually it seems less artificially oversaturated now] vibrant, and to closer match Horizons. [p.s. good!]
It's amazing how much more enjoyable exploration is now that they've restored the colors of the stars and the brightness of the nebulae. I think I'm even seeing way more M class stars in the skybox now.

Yes it was way over the top before - I have been at Sag A and now Colonia since launch and only now things look right. There is still some over compensating darkness HDR type affect going on around settlements on foot but at least the skybox is better and dark side of planets are now actually dark again

My 2080 GPU is now hitting 83* on foot in concourse or settlement. The noise is just outrageous. Not sure I want to keep pushing my temperature to max given a replacement is unobtainable.

It used to only max out really in the settlements but now the concourse will also spike temps to jet turbine levels of fan in minutes.

Seems to be heading the wrong way.

+1 never play on patch day, It really should be mentioned in the Codex somewhere
I played on patch day after both patch 1 and patch .1 successfully - with a Steam version of the game and it ran fine (also one of the lucky ones who's performance isn't completely tanked at settlements / concourse), and I play in VR. Tho' since yesterdays update I also get a black screen on exit every time now.

What I don't like is being mis sold a product supposedly at release stage that is barely at alpha in reality (beta generally mean close to release with just bug finding to do - don't need to find bugs in Odyssey, they find you). I also bought the game on the proviso that some form of VR was still in the game.

With that said however, their statement that you could remove the HMD to continue playing on the monitor was an omission of facts that when you remove the HMD it doesn't pause the headset but continues mirroring what's on the HMD so on the monitor you get a smaller window with a lovely grey surround (which you can't zoom in to fill the screen even), plus the VR specific bug fixes appear to be continuously ignored, as in...

(page 45) Are these VR fixes coming in Update 5?

More rocks seem to be rendering in one eye only or totally invisible since this mornings update - feeling only, nothing quantifiable but I was on the same planet before the update and immediately noticed more offset rocks after, gave me a headache
Free camera and DSS are borked - Still no orbit lines in FSS

Unfortunately, Sally (doing a bang up job btw) only does the forums on patch day and I notice a lot less interaction with the CMs on every other day.

FROM ~40 to this.
THANKS A LOT FOR RUINING THE GAME FOR ME, FDEV. MORE "OPTIMISATIONS" LIKE THIS AND THE ONLY PLAYERS THAT WILL KEEP PLAYING THE GAME WILL BE CMs ON STREAMS.
Don't worry, they are capable of decreasing the framerate even more. It took them 2 weeks to slightly fix the framerate issue and then only 1 week to screw it up again. Imagine what they can do when really trying!

A bit more from 25/40 fps will be perfect? You have low standards my friend.
Yeah in deed i have, but i think 60fps ( with no drops ) will be enough.
By the way , over 60fps is useless for a good gaming experience ( in my opinion ).
In the same way as you, if Frontier make the game running @ 200FPS, i'm taking it of course.
Fly safe cmdr, o7.

Especially now during these hot days, it is probably better to take it easy on the graphics card and give it less FPS. That's why I have currently set a limit of 45 Hz for Elite.

Take it easy brother 24fps is enough in 2021 for any game. You can't see more smoothness above 24fps anyway. The devs also now this.

The promotion problem still isn't fixed. I did four different missions in EDO for CPO, and the game promoted me to Post Commander, and then back to Petty Officer.

Had to drop back into Horizons to find a mission to do, got CPO for good this time, and all will be right with the world until it comes time for my next promotion, which at current rates will be sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I might recommend having a look at your cooling.

I have a new-ish GTX 2060, and I've not had the fans go nuts like that regardless of where I go in-game. I've wound up cooked in my Artemis suit, but my GPU never gets above 55C at any point.

@fdev

So, in for the first time since yesterday's patch, decided i'd join in the current community goal at Ashby City (i know, i'm a glutton for punishment).

The starport services default mentioned is behaving as described here:

This fix is currently bugged, will default to Starport Services on the first time per session, however each time after it goes to the Launch option

https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/38965

Added a confirmation to the ticket.

Edit addendum: doesn't happen every time. Looking for a pattern.

Additonal little weirdness, after docking at Ashby City (Open Mode, Odyssey) and selecting Starport Services -> Mission Board , the community goals option was greyed out until after a relog.

I have a GTX 2060 too, running odyseey it sits at around 80 C and 85-95% load.
