Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 7 Notes

This patch seems to have followed the (unfortunately) standard MO at this stage - one step forward, two back. And don't get me started on all data downloads being illegal now. The entire task of obtaining data was already tedious enough, now I have to disable alarms first to download some cat pictures? I'm considering this trolling at this point.
As a perhaps unintended side effect, both the data downloads and atmospheric pressure panels are now perfect for luring in civilians and guards alike if you're doing a settlement massacre mission. Like flies to honey.

So, we have a 5GB patch and no fix for the stupid 32+ button limitation for throttles+joysticks?

Way to go. My Virpil setup is collecting dust here.

I dont think anything changed with the data. Some stuff still has the alarm bell next to it as an icon, other stuff is still legal. I have no clue what that patch note is supposed to mean, and if whatever it is they wanted to do made it into the patch. So far seems like its identical to U6.
I haven't tried it yet but "AI now consider any downloading and uploading to be a crime" does worry me. I read it as that any NPC AI that sees you do it will take offence ... guess it needs testing.

true, I assumed so too but didnt happen with me.

Then again, I got scanned four times during testing while having a fake ID, and in two cases the guard (non anarchy) didn't care either. Seems that if you provide a trigger (trespassing or showing a weapons) and then backing off/stowing the weapon they complete the scan without caring about ID.

In other words: when you get scanned with a fake ID, just show your illegal gun for a sec. :ROFLMAO:

I hate to add to all the gloom, but, I have yet to see a Support mission, even in a system in "infrastructure failure". Really, I'm NOT in to spending hours/days trying to make a faction like me enough to throw me a mission or two, but there aren't even greyed out missions. There's just none that I've seen, and I'm not going to spend hours flying around trying to dig them up.

The FPS in the stations I've been in are at 60-70 and drops to around the 50s close to the bar, slightly better for me (HP Omen, i7, GTX1070). But I'm going back to American Truck Simulator until this dust settles and the Support missions start working again.. Disillusioned I guess, again.

But yeah, QA is abysmal. For the first time they really are starting to look like CIG, with happy positive communication and seemingly a bunch of junior devs tinkering with random bits of code. Would be interesting to hear what is really happening there, what kind of performance they expect to accomplish and when they think that is going to happen. Next week is the September Update and I hope to hear some serious stuff. Not about cosmetics, random fluff, a tweak here or there to a mission template.

Performance.
How far can they realistically improve it.
When do they think this will happen.
I double checked, when I looked at the data to download neither had the bell icon, but if I added them to download it would give me the illegality warning. I cancelled and ended up shooting up the place anyways because a guard who def did not see me open fire because I was near a panel I opened earlier. How they could tell it was me I have no idea.

Ended up with a bounty and 4 notoriety, and depending on which screen I look at I get three different bounty values. Who knows which is the correct one, I'm past caring at this stage.

Just a heads-up: no need to rush with grinding mats and data.

U7 broke modding your weapons and suits. You cannot apply anything to anything at any engineer. :D

I hate to say it, and I wish all the devs and CMs the best, but this is garbage. I am sure they worked hard, mean well and try their best. But its really shockingly poor quality.

Tried the "new" conflict zones and there were no ships fighting around the settlement and the new AA turrets were deployed but were not hostile not even towards me, also the sound while on foot is totally borked, when you shoot you gun next to some object (a wall, a crate, a door whatever) it just plays like a muffled sound and only in the speaker in the direction of the object, for example if you shoot while taking cover on a crate on your right, the sound will only play on your right, if you go in the open with no objects close to you it plays normally, this is really messed up, it was working properly just before the patch.

Honestly it is a shame, i thought Update 7 was going to be another step forward but it just introduced a whole lot of bugs and issues... again...

I dont think there will be NPC ships, its just defense against cmdr ships. They only target you when you start killing stuff in a ship.

I'd volunteer to play in a private beta server like a shot.
I know plenty of people who would, and who even paid money to do so in this game in the past.

I think someone said earlier in the thread, and it bears repeating, it's not just a question of QA it's a question of communication and marketing.

I didn't sign up to do QA for a broken product, I signed up to shoot spaceships for my chosen faction (and my pals), which is precisely what I had been doing up until this afternoon. For my purposes this 40 euro product I bought in May 2021 is now, at this very moment, significantly less functional than it was yesterday (or 4 months ago for that matter). I didn't think I was buying an early access pass*, and while the bugs may last days which is already irritating enough, we also know the BGS fallout from them may last months or even years (edit: Anarchy factions have lost a combined 1000+ systems since May last I checked, for example).

Some people want to do QA, some will do it for free, some will even pay to do it. Sometimes I will too, but I want to make that decision at the moment of purchase, not have it thrust on me while I'm half way through a faction war on a Wednesday evening.

* I'll admit to being disingenuous here. I knew I was buying an Elite: Dangerous expansion and as a long-term player I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect some level of jank just based on past experiences. But the point stands.

It's probably not even their QA being bad or anything. I'm pretty sure they don't have a test environment where they can run the game to see how changes made to the code are working.

I mean, there's literally no way that any kind of testers, no matter how bad or disabled (blind or something like that), won't spot these kind of bugs if they had so much as a single opportunity to run the game before the changes go live.

Oh, I am not pointing at individual QA employees. And yes, many things are obvious just by doing random things for a few minutes. I am just saying that at the end of the day the level of quality assurance is minimal for whatever reason. Maybe they dont properly test at all, maybe they do but the devs arent given the resources/time to tackle them. Who knows. But at the end of the day FD's ability to assure their software is of sufficient quality is virtually non-existent.

We need more Alien pyramids
Most
Fdev, I'm begging you. Before SC 3.15 releases just roll back to the last Horizons update and let's just forget Odyssey ever happened. Give us like 12 new ships, eliminate like 3/4 of the grind from the game and BOOM! we'll be back no questions asked we'll forget all about it.
Why? Going back to a outdated game with outdated functionalities? Throw away the space legs, something really needed instead of asking for improving this Odyssey expansion, adding Thargoids and station missions and more things that is lacking? What is so wrong with Odyssey that makes lots of you hate it and quit ED to play an unfinished demo like Star Citizen, a scam full of bugs and lacking content that only is there to sell ships, use fancy techy tecnobabble and offer a really nice universe but utterly empty? And SC update 15? You mean the update that adds an inventory, which is something every mmo should have from start, and medical play and injures, which only will add more wasted time between deads in a game in which you die just stepping inside your ship? Good luck to any of yoy who were fooled to buy Star Citizen thinking that in one year or two the game will be complete. It wont be complete until another 8 years... or never. It's a business model to sell ships and a eternal alpha.
Odyssey must exist, and is absurd that you people ask that it dissapear and moan about it. Just play horizons if you don't like it. It will be there for a while.
Seriously, I don't understand that kind of destructive thought.
The thought should be: please make Odyssey better. Please add the functionalities it should have to admire it. That's a positive and much needed thinking.

Adding enforcers was the dumbest idea ever. Conflict zones are too difficult now. Even with G5 gear. Who was the monkey responsible?
Suits are not resistant against explosives even with engineering.
Stupidest idea ever.
I understand that against abusers in SRV was necessary, but against people is plain stupid. We use lasers, they use rockets. Who is going to win, guess.

You use lasers? No wonder CZs are difficult.
