Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 7 Notes

Now FD have the unenviable position of two years of work (granted world plague got in the way) + 6 months extra and so far its still an unstable mess thats dragging down the player numbers and costing them 5 million in projected income.
It's worse than that, actually: not only is it costing them 5 million in projected income, it's costing them some amount in developer salaries. And then there's the intangible amount in reputation.

Worse you can do in developing - think about "projected income" :D That's why world is full of broken software.
It's like force Picasso to finish painting tomorrow because of projected income.

So this is fundamental issue between doing quality soft and money making.

Those broken PAs are seriously worrying - they should have prompted an immediate server shutdown until they were fixed or at least disabled.

I really hope we don't have to go through another day with them.
Superficially its amusing but FD (as far as I am aware) did not tell us in the notes they were looking at balancing these effects which is even more troubling really. There also seems to be a bug with efficient PA too as well.

We have reports in our discord that profits are doubled in at least FC to station trades.
The sell price at the station is displayed correctly, but if you check your bank account (errr... the one of your Cmdr) afterwards, it will have increased by buy_price + 2*profit.

No matter which commoditiy (test reports are with Gold, Silver and Tritium).

This does not affect the squadron trade rank (profit is counted only once there, it seems).

Another report from our discord:
Regarding the carrier assets counted towards your cmdr assets: the amount of money in the carrier bank is not included (if I have 14 bil in the FC bank and 1 bil in the cmdr-bank-account, my cmdr has assets worth of 20 bil, not 6 bil).

Well ED is now middle aged, it has to continually provide income otherwise there will be a point where time is called.

Looks like Director Roscoe needs to have a word with his programmers...

not just wrong byte order. 0x0000005f as a float would be a very tiny number.
9,223,372,036,854,775,808 is also exactly the maximum on the negative end of the scale for a 64bit signed integer, or essentially all zeroes apart from the sign bit. Which is particularly weird considering the module stats are represented as floating point values.

I mean, if they're suspicious that someone's going around cutting panels and some guy's walking around the base in a maverick suit....
I can see some Arx potential with a "it wasn't me" skin. Though that'd be P2W right... And I made sure I had sufficient distance to the panel (20m?) with all gear holstered. But alas I can't expect any nuance like that from a crude game like this.

Oh, it is too (thought 64-bit ints got bigger (I haven't looked at the max values often enough to remember)). Now the error is even weirder.

[edit] Or the same bit pattern interpreted as unsigned int (uint64_t).

Could you please tell me where this nerf is mentioned in the patch notes?
(this is horizons btw)

[this is a g5 efficient c2 pa, dmg should be ~67, not ~57
also on an srb c2 now 62 is displayed, which should be 95]

Hmmm...so as many many many of us are aware right now, there's something a little funky going on with weapons. I'll take a closer look at this and see. Thanks.

Although this will probably get lost fairly quickly, if any fellow goggle-heads fancy Confirming these issues, it’s be much appreciated:
https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42911 - shadows cast by local light sources (SRV headlights, hangar lights) now move with VR head movement. Very apparent in VR but doesn’t show up too well in videos I’ve taken.
https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42913 - a resubmit of an Expired issue - the SRV shadow does a lovely impression of the Cheshire Cat and slowly disappears, bit by bit, until only the player’s chair shadow remains.
👍

But then I wonder why a company like Larian can afford to delay the release of BG3 until sometime in 2022? BG3 is a single player game. So while everyone seems to think that the big cash cows are MMOs, and Larian Studios currently employs 107 people (about as many as for Elite alone, at least that's what they claim), how do they survive? And how does Frontier manage to survive with such an embarrassing performance?

Because Larian are not Picasso or something, you uncultured swine. I'm losing track of the metaphors here...

Seriously though Larian are fantastic, releasing the enhanced edition of Original Sin for free with full voice acting was a very cool move and I'm happy to have been given the choice not to opt in to early access of BG3. Always a nice option.

Sadly the invisible spot lighting has NOT been fixed. Where is the light source creating white spotlighting on the decks??

HORIZONS

PLEASE TURN OFF THE INVISIBLE LIGHT SOURCE SPOT LIGHTS! It looks ridiculous.

You're showing me screenshots between Odyssey and Horizons here so there will be differences at this point, but I can double check of course. Are these the exact same locations and positionings to stars and such too? The issue that was fixed in Odyssey was that the pad lighting and basic top part of the carrier itself were MASSIVELY overblown and all shades of incorrect.
