Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 7 Notes

In other words, they chose to take our money six months before they had a viable product. And now they're struggling to keep the whole thing from falling apart.

Oh, and let's stop repeating that 1:1 scale galaxy nonsense. ED renders one star system at a time, consisting of textured and displacement-mapped subdivided cubes, and a static image of the galaxy is rendered into the skybox texture during each jump. ED does not render 400 billion stars at once, and what you see on screen in a settlement is nowhere near the complexity of what games such as Cyberpunk 2077 manage to render with much better performance.

I stopped caring about Odyssey since I uninstalled it weeks ago, but the fact that its bugs are now spilling over into Horizons is bothering me.
I think you are being a bit harsh on the 1:1- unless you are literally god and everywhere all at once the galaxy is 1:1- you can travel to any part of it, as well as anyone else and everyone 'see's the same landscape.

And you are also expecting a lot if every hab is 2077 level.

Indeed. Odyssey has it's issues, we all know that. However to start comparing it to a game that was designed as an FPS from the ground up, with AAA budget and 5 times the number of developers is going in the direction where FDev can't win.

There were also one or two issues with Cyberpunk at launch as well which have taken quite a few months to get resolved.

It is common for this game to be compared, by some, with any particular 'favourite' single player game that is "better in all ways"... Best to regard it as trolling at its finest, I do ;)

I'm waiting patiently for the 'fixes' to weapons in particular to appear as a patch (hopefully today) so I can go back to doing some space CZs without my weapons behaving like stock instead of G5 engineered - only 4% on my Colonia account to get to triple elite!

Since update 7, all of my COVAS announcements seem to sound like they are being made by somebody sat in the bathroom - there is loads of echo.
I'm in deep space, in case that makes a difference.

Is anybody else getting this?
Yes! The level of reverb also appears to vary with ship size (for me, anyway) with Corvette or Cutter being most pronounced.

It coincided with my getting a new 'surround sound' headset (which is rather fun) so wasn't sure if it was down to this.

Glad it wasn't!

Ah good - Glad it wasn't just me as well!
I'm out at HIP 26176 at the minute, but when I get back, I'm going to try the switch to a Type 10 (as recommended by you), and try out VR again.
I'll also see if the sound changes.

EDIT: Norman Lovett - in the toilet - not a sound I was expecting to hear in ED

I'll get on this account after dogwalking and take out my T-10 to check, been too busy chasing that last few % on the other account. Sadly, can't buy a T-10 (among other ships) in Colonia any longer, thanks to the prejudices against Anarchy controlled systems.

Hahaha who has ever claimed ED renders the entire galaxy all at once?!

Amazing.

I'm not kidding. I uninstalled on September 1st.

But now Odyssey's bugs have started to appear in Horizons, in the form of broken engineering mods. And I'm wondering: Can we pay FDev for not touching Horizons?
Don't forget the fdev is planning to merge horizions into odyssey, to keep a single codebase. In other words Horizins players would get the new planet tech, but wouldn't be able to get out of their SRV etc. That's how I understand it.
It means that effectively they would be phasing out Odyssey as we know it today altogether.

I'm very much looking forward to the merge, I have a massive bag of popcorn ready.

Yeah, sooner or later there will be only the Odyssey client left, and Horizons' player will use it with Horizons' limitations.
It's not like that from the start (at least on PC) because they knew it wasn't ready.
