Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 8 Notes

All 4k correct?
It really needs a direct comparison with what you had before with the same graphics settings ..
I never looked too much into it before, I just know it ran 'okay' besides some obvious gameplay drops during on foot combat. Update seven made it worse, but I changed my Nvidia settings which improved it a lot. Now it seems to be the same , no noticeable difference. However, I did experience some stuttering and obvious drops when entering the station which never happened before.

Elite Launcher > Options > Display Hardware Survey and there search for CardName. It is GPU.

Findings so far (Limited to 60 FPS):

Good:
In station, steady 60 FPS everywhere - this used to tank badly
Planetary Landing:steady 60 from Supercruise ->Glide-> Within 7.5km of station->Landing via Auto Dock

Bad:
Massive stutter when exiting Warp thing next to a station - dropped to 30-40FPS, and took a while to load the station detail.
once loaded, it was okay.

No Real Change / Not sure:
Landed @ Amato Tourist Site @STF 1774:
In Ship FPS: fluctuates between 40-50, whilst just sat in ship
In SRV @ Above - 40 - 50 FPS
On Foot - the same

Overall - more consistent frame rate, just still lower than expected.

Minor Issues:
2-3s Frame drop to 30-40 FPS, when going into Galaxy Map or System Map - drops to about 30 fps for 2-3 seconds, then settles down.

Will re-edit once I've done planetary stuff

RTX 3070 OC
Res:2560x1440 - ULTRA
Upscaling: None (NORMAL)
CPU: i7-10700 - 8 core 3.8GHZ - 4.66 (Dynamic)
32GB RAM

Sorry if I sound critical guys and gals but I am working (ish) while you are playing: please could you say how much better/worse it is compared to update 7 using same graphics settings??

Ya I forgot to mention I experienced the same when warping, the station didn't even appear for a few seconds even though my ship was moving (it wasn't the usual momentary pause) . Also, my green engine trail was showing above me, I thought it could be another player but I couldn't see anyone ahead.

Greetings Commanders.

Well here we are.

Update 8 for Odyssey is very close right now,
HOWEVER I do need to bring the news of a slight change to the expected deployment schedule.
(Now listen...You all warned me last night, right? I'm here to jinx us...clearly.)
I'll be open with you with what's happened:
  • Last night the team discovered one final, nasty issue with the way languages were suddenly displaying (#gamedev). This needed an immediate fix.
  • When you fix something, you must always run sanity checks against the build set to deploy. These checks will need to happen this morning due to the timing of the fix last night.
To that end, we now need to formulate a slightly new deployment schedule for today which remains unconfirmed in terms of time specifics right now.
We're looking at releasing the updates 'This Afternoon'. Time slots to follow.

The Horizons update for PC and Console notes can be found HERE.

Regardless of all that behind the curtain as we crack on...Here are the Update Notes for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 8 👉😎👉

So has the update been applied or not? I'm seeing a 4.5GB update, light flickering from the nearby star within a docking at a station is worse than ever and almost no performance improvements in VR while within a station.

Those of you who provide their experience, it would help greatly if you could state whether you have AMD FSR - or CAS (with SS downsampling) - enabled or not. That by far gives the biggest performance boost. FSR is enabled as default when you pick one of the graphics settings presets, with a lower quality sub-setting applied (at least it used to). It's the game cheating in terms of performance basically. Thanks!

I'll get on in an hour or so so will provide some feedback then.
