News Elite: Dangerous Powerplay 1.3 Beta Incoming (changelog)

It has nothing to do with immersion for me, there are other types of players than the 2 camps people want to seem to break it down into. I detailed in the post I made before my last why I don't think the introduction of this will be as big an issue as people are making out, before even seeing how it interacts with all the other elements of the game.

I don't have tons of money (and haven't actually played for months, though will play 1.3), but I have many times in the past been able to experiment freely with different load outs and also change stuff for single missions. I don't even have any of the really expensive ships that will lead to huge losses. I can still see it being a problem.

I really don't see what benefits this change brings. True, if it had been in from the beginning no one would have even noticed, but you could say the same amount real time mission timers...

I'd have to argue again, that IMHO it doesn't add anything to gameplay, but limits peoples chance to experiment - Module information is thin on the ground at best. Want to try a module to see what it does (how else can you know?) well now not only do you have to spend your time/effort, but 10% of the CR purchase price.

If actions should carry a consequent why have fuel prices been dropped? Why don't we pay storage costs for our ships? Who do we pay a docking fee? Surely all of these would make the game yet dynamic? Or would they simply introduce yet more needless cost/*grinding*?

Its just common sense that dictates that if you sell used parts you can't expect to get 100% of the original price back.

Some concerns.

Great work, some concerns tho.

Wings:
I really hope that creating a Wing will be fixed now, often I can't text 1 of my friends nor hail him or invite to a wing for the last few months.
Also I see some of my friends that are offline still showing as online in the game.
.
Objectives/Missions:
I like to wing up with my friends and do some objectives/missions we accept at a station.
Yet most of the time we don't see the same objectives/missions we can do together which result in a big sigh and
everyone ends up doing something else.
I really hope that Wings in Powerplay can now do the same missions/objectives together. I can understand that their will be ranked missions available that not everyone can do at the same time but I expect that some objectives/missions 1 person picks up will state if the whole Wing can participate in it or not and if so that the objective/mission will be auto added in the transaction of the players in that Wing or when someone needs a hand with a mission and asks for a friend to tag along that their should be an option if that friend wants to accept the same objective/mission.
.
Lag/stuttering etc:
So I've never had any problems with the game so far, no lag, no stuttering, packet losts, nothing.
Yet whenever I am in a Res site and a friend from Australia with a bad connection tags along he brings his lag and all with him.
I see for example npc's jumping from place to place and that only happens when he is with me. Hopefully this is already aware and will be solved in Powerplay?
.
.
The above might already been explained in the past and probably going to be in Powerplay but as I don't look on the forums at a daily basis like most players do I've had to ask and share my concerns.
.
Thanks in advance FD and keep up the good work.

The 10% module thing should have been there at the start and is an incredibly good addition in making people think about what they are buying, let alone injecting some realism in the second hand module trade. This is the problem with releasing things too early, that people get used to things they should never have got used to in the first place. The real killer in the change list is the addition of progress bars to rank progression. Why Lord? Why? (Yeah, obsessing over the little things I know :D )

*Edit* Oh and fuel, repair and wear and tear costs need to go back up as well. Not as much as in 1.0, but they were nerfed waaaaay to hard. My further 2p. Which should be £2. :)

People think a lot about what they're purchasing. If you're a player in just one multi-purpose ship and you refit that ship every day because you don't want to be stuck doing the same thing over and over - i.e. you want to explore today, but next week you want to trade, and after a day of trading, you want to hunt bounties, this patch is going to hurt you _really hard_, and this applies to everyone but the ultra rich, who have multiple ships fitted for different roles. Refit a combat Asp to a trader Asp? That's 2 million credits just gone. Are players in Asps now filthy rich players who need their credits sunk down?

Multi-purpose ships will become a lot less attractive for beginner players now. This starts with the Adder and ends with the Anaconda. It affects all multi-purpose ships equally.

I see a lot of players here who heavily favor more and more cash sinks. I wonder how rich you people are.

Epic Change Log for 1.3 Epic Change Log for 1.3

Frontier,

I just wanted to say well done on the Power Play update 1.3! Besides all the new features added the change log of tweaks and fixes are Epic length! Can't say enough about Frontiers dedication to this game, I wish more AAA dev's had this attitude

It was always meant to be like this and applies in the same way as the ship selling.

Michael

I viewed the lossless module sales as one of the unsung genius elements of Elite design - it encourages people to experiment with wildly different ship outfittings and fine-tune them in a very rewarding way - outfitting is one of Elite's most successful features - and this builds considerable ship "ownership" feelings as people constantly and happily tinker and adjust (and check energy loads) until their ship Just Right.

I'm not surprised to find out that it was a happy-fortune bug instead of intended design, but I'm very surprised that its clear advantages to the game experience have gone unnoticed or undervalued next to shoehorning in the Original Vision.

I'm pretty comfortable saying that the Original Vision turned out to be mistaken in this instance, so let it go. Lossless module sales is simply superior game design.
(Especially given the insufficient information available prior to purchase which adds an unfortunate copy-others-or-you're-gambling element to what was previously skill and investigation.)

(Lossless sales was something that made me (game designer) sit up and think "wow, I would have been knee-jerk inclined to go the other way, yet this is clearly better. Nicely done!", so now that it turns out that they didn't intend sales to be lossless, part of me is all "YISS!! They made the same mistake I might have made! I do not have to question my design chops any more! :D ")

That's the biggest changelog I have ever seen - in any game - ever. Holy crem.

As for the 10% meh - who cares, just means you need to be more strategic with your choices - as it should be in my book. Makes it more realistic. I mean who would buy back a used module - coffee stains and all - at full price?

As for everything else....if anyone comes out with "FD don't listen" or "FD aren't supporting the game" - I'll just point them to this thread... :D

Its just common sense that dictates that if you sell used parts you can't expect to get 100% of the original price back.

Truth...common sense also says that I can keep things I've purchased before and can purchase new things without being forced to sell the preceding part.

Thats like Nvidia saying, "No, you cannot have a GTX Titan X until you sell us back your GTX Titan, at a loss."

I don't agree: progress bar is an helpful indicator; 10% penalty is a penalty!

I'd be scared if everyone did agree - t'is the t'internet afterall! :) The progress bar takes away from the magic of not knowing, which is one of the things I liked about the other Elites. What mystic force caused 'Right on Commander!' to appear on my screen? Nowadays of course 't'kids want everything on a plate'. :D And a 10% penalty is a penalty, yes, but in a game that does not really penalise enough, and I've little sympathy for people in Anacondas or whatever moaning about module costs when they are in a huge lump of metal that's essentially a licence to print as much money as they want. The game needs more money sinks and more consequence for changing ship loadouts. *Edit* Now, a good money sink of course would be allowing players to rent space in a station to store other modules (and indeed charge players for keeping ships dotted around the galaxy). Another nice addition would be the ability to store modules in your own cargo hold.
.
On a different topic, both the Diamondback and Courier cockpits look snug. Is there enough room for the pilot to actually get up and in to the back of either ship without having to climb over the chair? (Which, in zero-g might be do-able...)

So if I get this straight... only people with Beta access can play it?

What exactly do you mean by that? I bought the game about 1.5 months ago... can I still download the 1.3 beta? If not... bummer... I was really looking forward to playing it.

Any news on when this patch won't be Beta anymore?

But... I saw no mention of fixing the trading beacon exploit...

(they at least fixed the frameshift beacon shield recharge exploit)

woooo what a changelog. Very nice changelog, and thanks for the hard hard work :)
Can't tell how much we were waiting for this update.

FUN IS SUBJECTIVE!

Apart from anything else are you saying that when companies make changes to their games, not just this one, they should only makes changes that some of their community think make the game more fun to play?

yes.

A game is a game; fun is about to be on top of everything.

The 10% rule may kill the game for casual players and eventually for others ( beginners maybe)..(me).

10% seems ok but please could you add some storage option then (?)
That would be even more appreciated and make this changelog perfect then .

Nice anyway , keep the hard work guys , this game is just fantastic.

It's usually a one week beta period, followed by release.

Anny one experiencing server disconections after a few jumps?

Yes - the site says the server is up but I can't get back in or access the groups/friends page.

I was in for about 15 minutes just looking through the Powers screens when I was kicked.
