News Elite: Dangerous Powerplay 1.3 Beta Incoming (changelog)

Can we go ahead and delay this patch another week or two so those of us who aren't absurdly wealthy from trading can have more time to mess around the loadouts on any new ships we may happen to have recently purchased? I'm liking what I got now, but want to mess around with equipment without taking a loss if I have to go back to what I had. And I don't want to just look up the flavor of the week cookie cutter and settle with that because I can't afford to change out parts to find something that matches my playstyle.

You are the vast minority though and oculus rift is not officially out yet, its beta still so yeah, sure they can make improvements but they can't take priority away from other main stuff.

Still, FD pimp out ED with the rift at all the tradeshows and make a big song and dance about to the media about how they were the first etc but they haven't answered any rift related questions since 1.2, none of the devs post in the vr forum and there's no word on the latest sdk being implemented.

I'm not a rift user but I've always been on the fence about getting one for ED. I'd like to know that FD are taking vr development seriously even if a minority are using it now.

Hi, looks awsome but how do i know if i have beta? I baught this game a long time ago but just never played it to now.

Look at the game launcher. Down at the bottom where it shows the game client and the combat tutorials should be an option to update/install the Beta.

Really looking forward to this update. Don't have Beta access but it looks like some of the annoyances, particularly concerning the bounty system, have been addressed.

Looks like an awesome update well done FD! :D

No. It makes multi-role ships multi-role instead of "one-role now" and "one-role later". Now a multi-role ship makes sense to be outfitted for multiple roles at the same time as per the definition of the term.

THIS + Repped, a hell of a lot of people here seem to be under a collosal misunderstanding of quite what Multirole actually means!! It does not mean a dedicated fighter one minute then after some fighting a reconfig to a trader then after some trading a reconfig to an explorer. It means a ship that you fight in , then trade in then explore in all without needing to reconfig.

On the other hand I understand the chagrin caused, and agree with the suggestions of maybe 5% reduction not 10%, MB states a 100% resell inside 10 mins...that's a bit short IMO, could do with being 30 mins for a proper test/trial (or maybe after 10 mins it's 1% reduction then 2.5% after 20 mins then 5% after 30 mins? (or 2%, 5%, 10% using the original %)

A simulator to test things out or FULL disclosure of stats in the dockyard for informed choices to avoid wasting cash?

This is probably the best pro-parts tax post I have seen so far, but it does ignore the fact that the game designers have implemented a (mostly) unrestricted slot model for ships. I agree with your point about roles such as fighters and traders, this just isn't the right way to encourage it. It may even be the worst way.

Have they said anything about Steam-VR support, now were in Steam...?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multirole_combat_aircraft

"The term had originally been reserved for aircraft designed with the aim of using a common airframe for multiple tasks where the same basic airframe is adapted to a number of differing roles. Multirole has also been applied to one aircraft with both major roles [...]"

Regarding realism vs gameplay - we have hyperspace, supercruise, maximum speeds and yaw<pitch, as this was decided to result in better gameplay. Better gameplay should always trump realism; this is not KSP.

Wow! 80% moaning over 10% penalty!
Note to FD:
Why on earth did you write 'penalty'?
Red rag to a frustrated bull!
It's called 'depreciation' you mutton chops!:)
You do have accountants don't you FD? I know they're not to be trusted but they do know the jargon!:) Use their, ah hem, expertise!:)

Definitely dislike the 10% penalty for selling modules. It greatly discourages experimentation with different loadouts to suit your play style and just encourages cookie cutter builds.

Lots of great changes, looks pretty good ! in addition to Power Play, the new ships and the drones, a lot of the changes (too long to quote) will make the game more enjoyable.

Not so sure about the 10% penalty on selling modules. I'd go for a way to store them permanently like we do with ships, or maybe add a longer tryout period say a day or so, allowing us to return goods we are not satisfied with, just like we can already do in real life.

I've also become used to grab a fuel scoop when travelling long distances and sell it on arrival, or switch weapons depending on the situation and I think borrowing modules should be a valid gameplay choice. Maybe make us pay a fee linked to the length of time a module has been used. 10% flat seems a bit arbitrary and could be refined a bit more.

Anyway, great job, I'll now wait for the non-beta release and curse myself once more for not having been part of the crowdfunding ... I still don't know how I can have missed it :(

Well, I'm no accountant, but as a physicist I'm afraid I don't really accept "because realism" as sufficient justification :p All things are relative, and purely because a mechanic is realistic does not justify its inclusion. I mean, people aren't queueing up to play "father of 3 with crippling mortgage and knackered car" simulators, are they?

I'm not trying to be argumentative or react hysterically, but I for one lament this option if it is kept. I also lament joining a forum to moan, but there it is. Like a lot of us I suspect, I'm a grown up with a busy life. I don't get as much time to play ED as I would like and little things like being able to swap and change loadouts at no cost have a genuine impact on my enjoyment of the game. It makes it really easy to experiment with different configurations over multiple play sessions. Storing equipment would help alleviate the problems this change raises to some degree - in fact, personally I feel this is a must if this is to make it to full release - but it doesn't give us anywhere near the flexibility we have now. Keeping hundreds of millions worth of equipment stored just for experimenting with requires a much greater investment than the current system. Believe it or not, I found this a genuinely refreshing aspect of ED - not punishing players for experimenting with new setups. I've fiddled about with my Vulture quite a lot. This would have been an expensive and frustrating exercise under the new system. I can only imagine how annoying it will be for 'conda owners.

Logic tells me that the 10% charge for modules should be renamed to station service charge and have a range.

5% ~ 10% maxed. If you are a friendly to the station they would offer you a discounted service charge. Secondly

I agree that weapons need to have the mechanics of storage in order for this to be implemented. If there could be

some sort of test drive to these modules it would be great, before pilot decide to sink their credits into modules

the have tested.

Yes Frontier why did you use the word , Penalty ... ? It's not a positive word, it sounds like you are punishing players

to play your game. The fact is the 10% is a very logical credit sink tool ... just use the right word and it should be

received well.

Wow, what an impressive change log. Thank you so much for sharing!

- Cargo/Mining chunk collection drones added
- Add mining bonus for mining operations within extraction sites
- Added Painite as a minable commodity
- Added osmium as a minable commodity
- The contents of an asteroid are now deterministic again, and will be the same every time a players logs in and for every player
- A history of mined asteroids is stored per player on the web server. If a player tries to mine a previously mined asteroid, they get nothing

Can't wait for the beta to be over to try mining again :D

Has the number of chunks per asteroid changed?
