I'm as frustrated as most about the lack of communication about the future of Elite Dangerous. The longer this goes on, the more the impression grows that Odyssey is going into (or already is) in maintenance mode.
Technically it's not as we're still getting Galnet articles and now it's a CG every two weeks, instead of every week. For those of you who remember what it was like with no galnet, CGs or anti-xeno incursions before fleet carriers arrived that's what maintenance mode feels like (heck, I was that bored at that point it drove me to powerplay, which was a pleasant surprise once I got into it). However, like then, you do get the impression that they're hoping that the community will take up the slack and create their own content instead of fixing issues or creating new content themselves.
They have two games coming out soon, Chaos gate and the F1 management game. We've all seen fdev's results after Odyssey's painful launch and Jurassic Park 2 didn't go to plan (which was a shame because that's an improvement on JP1). Now both Chaosgate and the F1 games have to succeed to help with Fdev's performance, otherwise the share price will plummet even further, so it makes complete business sense for all resources to be diverted to those projects in-order for them to succeed. But they arn't going to tell that to the community of their only live service game because that will make player numbers fall even further.
You get the impression that there is more to come. However, I don't think we're going to get anything until after at least the warhammer game is out. One of the reasons we're now getting less CGs and galnet news is because they're going to stretch out their planned content for as long as possible to keep us still interested until the next batch of content is ready. As Arf said on yesterday's livestream, they know the community is frustrated about the lack of news, but what I don't think they realise are the amount of people on the verge of giving up.
