Elite dangerous protest day

I'm as frustrated as most about the lack of communication about the future of Elite Dangerous. The longer this goes on, the more the impression grows that Odyssey is going into (or already is) in maintenance mode.

Technically it's not as we're still getting Galnet articles and now it's a CG every two weeks, instead of every week. For those of you who remember what it was like with no galnet, CGs or anti-xeno incursions before fleet carriers arrived that's what maintenance mode feels like (heck, I was that bored at that point it drove me to powerplay, which was a pleasant surprise once I got into it). However, like then, you do get the impression that they're hoping that the community will take up the slack and create their own content instead of fixing issues or creating new content themselves.

They have two games coming out soon, Chaos gate and the F1 management game. We've all seen fdev's results after Odyssey's painful launch and Jurassic Park 2 didn't go to plan (which was a shame because that's an improvement on JP1). Now both Chaosgate and the F1 games have to succeed to help with Fdev's performance, otherwise the share price will plummet even further, so it makes complete business sense for all resources to be diverted to those projects in-order for them to succeed. But they arn't going to tell that to the community of their only live service game because that will make player numbers fall even further.

You get the impression that there is more to come. However, I don't think we're going to get anything until after at least the warhammer game is out. One of the reasons we're now getting less CGs and galnet news is because they're going to stretch out their planned content for as long as possible to keep us still interested until the next batch of content is ready. As Arf said on yesterday's livestream, they know the community is frustrated about the lack of news, but what I don't think they realise are the amount of people on the verge of giving up.

what, this will achieve nothing
i protest many days as I'm unable to play every day due to work commitments.

im not surprised fdev say nothing, they are dammed for what they do and dont say.
at this rate, fdev will think.... its not worth it... turn it off.

the problem with this game is the forum, fdev listening to it trying to keep everyone happy, this influences changes which weren't in the original design. carriers for example

It has been "cake tomorrow" for all of the time I've been on the forum... It just presents as a very lacklustre 'put-off', but it is what they do and the dog is too old to learn new tricks, it appears.

We have, in the past year (concerning EDO) been told too many times of "exciting stuff, but we can't talk about it now" that it just appears to be meaningless assurances, with no substance to back it up.

I think they do realise that there are players on the verge of 'giving up', it just appears that it doesn't matter.

I don't really believe in the diverted resources story.
FDEV now has 745 employees. They had 300 five years ago. The truth probably is that you can't announce a major new feature every month. I wouldn't even be surprised if most work happens when they are most silent...

I would say the "cake tomorrow" promises have been happening since the end of the Beyond updates. We had a positive change in the run up to Christmas but now it appears, we have reverted to type.

it's not really a story, just educated guesses.

I don't know if I was 'here' at that time (the first major update I recall was 3.3) but your comment does support the pattern.

We did have a couple of months of high visibility of CMs and some good youtube content, along with Sally coming in and communicating in her unique style (great communication skills, even when there was 'nothing to tell'! (I hope she is recovering, even if slowly, from her encounter with the 'End Boss') But, in the couple of months before Christmas the CMs were posting less, and the stream content becoming more vanilla. I assume the stream of updates were considered to have put out most of the fires surrounding EDOs launch.

Why is it an educated guess?

An educated guess would be that they are working when they are silent because when they are loud they are showing stuff that was worked on before.

An educated guess would be that they are still working on Elite because they've often been silent over the last 8 years and yet they always developed new content.

An educated guess would be that devs are still working on Elite regardless of different projects because they now have 7 times as many employees as 8 years ago.

They aren't working on the game because we had no news for 6 weeks is not an educated guess.

How about if they give you the money for it? Y'know, again.
