News Elite: Dangerous Steam Keys

Calm down, gents! Valve does take its rightful cut, but only from purchases made on Steam's store.

That's why the first post on this thread tells that you that wherever you choose to play the game (Steam or Frontier download) the devs will appreciate it if you can please continue to make your purchases through the FD store.

Finally, someone else who actually read the initial post.

I can understand why some people might be oblivious to generating a Steam key as it will take 30% profit from the items sold on Frontier's store. However if you think of the additional exposure that the game will attain from the enhanced playing numbers on Steam stats and the reviews. It might encourage more sales that Frontier would not have attained until now.

I for one will be generating a Steam key, I spend £100 on the beta and I enjoy having all my games on Steam. Can we please have Steam trading cards also?

Same here. I did the £150.00 tier, PLUS I bought a copy for a friend who would not have bought it for himself AND bought some paint jobs for my ships. I think I've earned a Steam key. Ditto for the steam cards, backgrounds, emotes, etc... that'll just be extra money for the devs and I'll enjoy having the Elite Dangerous Badge + a nifty background for my profile.

It's later posts suggesting that Valve is somehow getting a cut from the FDEV store that are causing concern. I'm more loyal to Frontier than to Valve right now so if that's the case I don't plan on giving them money I want to give to Frontier.

Hi,

i linked my Steam Account with the store. But i cant find "Claim an Elite: Dangerous". Can someone lead me to get my steam key?
Same here! Either the store page is coded very poorly (which uses magento, a free online shopping/cart software) or they're running their shop on a tablet pc... Riddiculous.

Hmmm, for some reason my Partner Keys is showing two Steam keys. Is that OK?

I activated the first one in Steam, and when I try the second one it says that the product is already activated. (The two keys are different)

How dare they use ready made commerce system?!!?!!
They should write all from scratch, they are programmers after all !??! Let them waste another month on creating commerce system while there are hundreds alternatives already. Let them reinvent the WHEEL!!!!
....

if people would stop refreshing madly and overloading the store server and just come back later and try again everybody would get their keys quicker.

and same here

same here, actually it says: Your account is linked to Steam.

and.... nothing, any key anywhere, and in my steam library it isn't

I'll add to that and say: Same here

BUT, patience, I am sure it'll sort itself out. :)

We found the guy who can read.

No, in fact there is no need for re-inventing the wheel. I dunno maybe they are using the paid version which offers a bit better solution, there is either an optimization problem or their servers are riddiculously weak.
The problem with using such kind of frameworks/software packages are that they use exquisite amount of system resources per render. Wordpress, Magento, OpenCart, etc... All the same!

And yes, I have been earning my money as a software developer for seventeen years. Cheers.

... and it's not him, or you.

While I suspect it is true that Valve does not take a cut from sales on FDEV's store, Edward's posts seem to suggest otherwise. Personally I think this is a miscommunication but I'm waiting for confirmation before acting.

Others subscribe to the latest information, which is that Valve takes a cut from FDEV's store. They want confirmation. Either way we are all well aware of what's been said. The only ones having trouble reading are the ones being pointlessly contrary - like you - without knowing all the details.

That is not what the information says. It says once you have linked accounts purchases made even on Frontier store will go with a cut to Steam .

Where does it say this?

Greetings Commanders

All EliteDangerous.com store players can now generate a Steam key to add it to their Steam library.

By generating a Steam key all future purchases made with your Frontier account will also be associated with your Steam account. This won't affect how much you pay for the game or for paint jobs, but sticking with the EliteDangerous.com store remains the best way to support ongoing development with 100 percent of your money on future purchases. We especially appreciate it when you buy direct from us, but we're happy for you to play how and where you like. Just enjoy the game, and fly safe Commanders!

Instructions to redeem:

Log into the Elite: Dangerous store.

Go to your account dashboard.

Click on ‘Partner Keys’

Click ‘Claim an Elite: Dangerous’ key.

You can redeem your code by selecting 'Games > Activate a Product On Steam' in the Steam UI.

Note: the key you generate will add Elite: Dangerous to any Steam library but WILL NOT grant access to the game without an existing registered Frontier account and copy of the game. For this reason, please don’t give your keys away to friends! They won’t be able to play without having already bought the game from Steam or the EliteDangerous.com store!

- Tesco British Semi Skimmed Milk 568Ml/1 Pint
£0.42 - Tescos
£0.07 - VALVE SOFTWARE INC

Thats why i hate brokers.
They produce nothing and cut off 30% of hard work somebody else.

I do not put my hand into it. May Steam keep their keys.

NOT steam is sitting at nights and talking with people here. It is ED.
NOT steam is sitting at work and designing game. It is Sandro.
NOT steam is hardly working with AI algorytms. It is Sarah.
NOT steam is managing everything. It is hard work of Michael.

And not steam is doing other work, betas at weekend. it is the rest of FDev team. And kudos should belong to them, NOT steam.

That's how i see it.

Can someone please confirm if the Steam version of ED updates all of ED's game files, or if it only updates the ED launcher? I've read conflicting reports, and my interest in the Steam version is mainly for this...

P.S. I don't know why it's beyond the wit of Frontier to make it's Launcher update itself. It shouldn't be rocket science!
