Patch Notes Update Elite Dangerous: The Guardians 2.2 update

I love all the changes and new things added but one thing I wished for didn't make it in and that would be to give the SRV more cargo space or to buy it like with your ships.

I often thought this aswell. But in reality not many light vehicles can carry 2 tonne safely. Perhaps one of the engineers can develop an upgrade that modifies the structural design of the srv for a cargo space buff. That requires something hard like arsenic. That stuff is rare as rocken horse dung.
On a side note once more commanders get wealthy and there is nothing to blow cash on, that would be a great time to introduce that Panther Clipper. Nails clipped and fingers crossed.

Woohoo it's happening! :D  [up]

Waiting in anticipation and good work, FD...and would really appreciate if you could release the launcher some hours before the servers go live again. For during the upgrade, you can't play anyway, afterwards, the launcher is outdated, and a 10GB download takes about 3 hours on my 16 MBit connection which means I most certainly won't be able to play today, but sit in front of Steam and feverishly watch the download bar all the time, praying it won't stop somewhere in the process...at least it was so when 2.1 was released. 30mins before going live is definitely too short for me [noob]

Thanks for the update info.

For those of us beta testers who were lucky enough to have access to the beta and already downloaded the patch 7, will the download be required from scratch or will it intelligently recognize the beta data and copy paste it to the main game folder and update as necessary?

A far as i know you also need to have under the launcher Options "Enable Virtual Cache Check and Enable Virtual Cache" ticked. Then yes its just an update. But it looks like they have added quite bit of data since then.

There's some conflicting information on the Heat changes in the Patch notes:

First

"- Thermal diminishing returns cut in much harder, previously they would start at 60% and prevent you going over 190%, whereas they will now start at 65% and prevent you going over 95% (down from 80%/120% in our earlier proposal). This means that heat from external attacks alone can never cause module or hull damage"

And then a few lines later:

"- We think heat attacks have been reduced a little too far, and need a very conservative buff:- Diminishing returns for heat now limit at 100% (up from 95% in previous beta)
- Damage penalty for Thermal shock reduced to 20% (from 25%)"

Which is the final version going in live, 95% cap or 100% cap?

Thanks for all your work.

Great looking update - I'm looking forward to flying fighters and passengers paying me to go exploring [yesnod]
That is a rather good idea, the only thing I could see against it would be perhaps maybes the servers that run the galaxy are also the servers that host the downloads for the client?

I agree. I doubt it's the same servers and anyway, don't see diffcuty to separate them or use for example a pre-download via torrent.
Be ready for the client software to switch on the server when they will come online.
So much waiting time that could be avoided for those like me who have a download speed rotten (i have 6/7 Mb/s).
Some games very famous do that very well with a progressive download of the client some days before (wow, i almost said a name ;) ).
The only thing, is to have temporarily the 2 versions of client. Juste in case, they have to rollback the servers and retry some days later, the old client could continue to be used.

I don't know if that is possible with using Steam (should exist a solution) or with Xbox One / PS4.

David Braben just announced on the live stream that servers will be available in about 10 mins and we can start downloading the update!!

And downloading. That one came in quick.

>95% were copied form the beta 7 folders, making the update even faster.
