So, ever since Update 13, I've pretty much had to reinstall the game from scratch every update... validate game files isn't an option through the launcher, and it's not doing my monthly bandwidth any favours.4th reload of the launcher, this is probably the cause... ostensibly the update was launched before the launcher was updated

Though for future reference, how do I validate files through the launcher? I don't use steam for Elite.
Is anyone else having this happen?
Yeah... see this is my problem.
Never had to do an uninstall/reinstall in the last 8 years, it's only Update 13 that this started for me.... weird...
I only get that when the game is running.
Definitely not running, since I can't update it.
Longshot, but you do have the latest launcher, it was updated with p13?

Are you one of those people that don't believe in shutting their computer down? Any chance there's still a EliteDangerous64.exe process still lurking on your machine? Or worse, something calling itself EliteDangerous64.exe....
Shut down and restarted the computer after I first encountered it not upgrading. Generally, computer sleeps overnight.
I'd try reinstalling the installer instead. Uninstall it completely first.
With Windows 10 there's a feature called something like "fast startup", enabled by default, that can cause a lot of troubles including third-party software malfunction.
Basically it use a memory image of the system state at shutdown time, and reload it at boot up, saving (quite little if you use SSD) time. Lot of complaints on MS forums.
So you might think doing a clean boot, when not. Maybe worth a try.
I had read about this in passing, was yet to try that though, thanks.
A note on this. If you want a clean boot, restart. The restart does not do the save state to disk.
The sector name is shown at the top of the screen not on the sectors themselves. Not a setting I've ever felt the need to toggle on or off so not sure how it's supposed to work or if it does anything at all..
Thanks, I completely overlooked this small text on top of the screen - almost invisible if not panning the map to make its background dark. But the setting does not affect it (and probably should not).
