They thought they were getting the standard matte version of “midnight black” that all ships have had so far since, you know, it had the exact same name and all. It turns out this one is glossy and not at all like the midnight blacks from before, hence the name change and the (imo) valid request for a refund.
Ok I got it... but it seems like ppl bought it without looking. I was prepare for midnight black, but it definitely is not that color, and the name didn't changed that, and I just passed.
The in game preview for what you’re buying is notoriously misleading. It depends on where your ship is parked and, especially if you’re on your carrier, it’s very dark and sometimes very hard to see exactly what you’re getting. Even the screenshot they posted on their twitter along with the announcement makes it hard to see.
IMO it would be completely valid to believe you’re getting the same type of midnight black you were getting for all of the other ships.

I thought the Mandalay “midnight black” looked wrong after I bought it … goddamn it!!!
Same here. The launcher says "Preparing for an update - 0% Complete - 0.00 MBps" and my network meter shows there are ZERO downloads. I was playing until 4 pm CET, then I had to run some errands, and now (7:30 pm CET) I can't start the game. Reboot the computer didn't change a thing.

It did that to me yesterday, too...
Like any update, you have to let it cook for awhile (5-10 minutes) and then it will start...
It's even worst! Local communist (Workers Party or something)put a 20K fine on my . No good deed goes unpunished.

Triple checked every single item I have in Storage, no mission items there an still the error happens every time. Very effectively cancels my suit upgrades, luckily only artemis left, but still annoying.
From what I understand the have renamed this one to "Midnight Black Gloss" and will release a matt proper Midnight Black on december 10th as a new livery.
Reminds me of years ago when I bought the Chromed paintjob for several ships, thinking it was the mirror chrome finish. But it turned out that they were a matte/brushed chrome and there was another discontinued paintjob called Chrome that had the mirror finish. I didn't think to request a refund at the time and some time later when I did request it, I was denied. Propably because I had equipped them on the ships at some point (that's how I discovered they were not what I wanted). I boycotted buying anything from Frontier for a few years, so I call it "even" now, even though I'm apparently still disappointed. Glad that nowadays they are owning up to the poorly lit store pics and the sometimes "misleading" naming.
