Elite Dangerous Update 7 Progress

I'm really torn about this because at the outset of the Odyssey mess I advocated for Frontier to do a Hello Games and just head down and fix everything one by one.. fulfill your customer requests and they will come back to you..

However I'm also really pleased when they communicate what they are doing..Are they looking at Powerplay or have they already decided they aren't going to touch it until they have fixed X,Y and Z? Who knows really but time will be their judge. The constant fixes and player requests being fulfilled in that other games has heaped praise back on the shoulders of the once derided company.
The problem is, FD have pretty much blown their own legs off, and are currently sewing them back on trying to stabilise EDO and get that back on track. They are (understandably) doing this, but its that "what then?" that the roadmap needs (and a lot of people thought) was going to address. But whats happened is the roadmap ends at the end of EDO.

Taking the original promises at face value we have fallen sooooo far behind that now I don't see us ever catching up!

At the beginning we are told, "yeah it's gonna be great, you can walk around inside your ships, we'll procedurally generate weather etc." Nowadays we are told "You're bloody lucky if we fix your game-breaking bug this year and you'll be thankful"

How far away are we from those original promises being fulfilled? Looks like a long way to me! And if they have changed it needs the man who made them to come out and publicly say he's changed them. I'd like to see David stand up and say either "Yes we still intend to make the game we always wanted but it's gonna take longer, including all the things like earth like worlds and water and clouds and animals and trees etc like other games are doing" or to say " Look we just can't keep that promise anymore, like with promising offline mode, our decision has been made to never bring this to fruition"

I want to hear from the horses mouth. It's his responsibility and the buck stops with him.

After what happened with EDO they are probably internally reassessing what they are able to do and what they are not. At the moment their internal roadmap probably isn't much more longer than "fix EDO"

And this is the first real failure of the new more open FD- for a lot of people its meaningless because they want to see existing features and whats in store for them. New ships, CQC, Powerplay, ranks, blueprint balance, mat balance....its a giant list that was ignored in the EDO update and now hangs above FD.

I'm a relatively new player, I started playing when I heard that Elite runs under WINE/Linux.

I started reading the forums to learn about the game and to pick up tips and tricks.

My personal take on this is that a lot of posts are just noise and simply not relevant.. All the whining seems to me completely counterproductive, as it only serves to dilute the real information exchange. I like many other players would look forwards to atmospheric planets, space legs, and all the other stuff commonly asked. I'd also love to have the bugs I've discovered fixed. Still trying to read the forum is largely a waste of my time, as there are so many posts whining about this or that.

If devs and CMs would try to read all the posts on the forum, and even possibly respond to posts, they'd have no time left over for doing actual work.

680 people emplyed by Frontier.. why do we get the feeling that there are only 2 that can code working on Elite??

It destroys any hope the game can be what we want it to be when bugs cause delay after delay after delay. We are a third of a year past release now. I feel sorry for whoever is left actually coding, they need help and a lot more of them. You have the numbers Frontier..what on earth is going on over there in Cambridge?

(edited because I was right the first time, a third of a year from release by all intents and purposes)
2 people coding 500 people working on Camera Suite
178 people to write up patch notes with many many fixes

Peeps have to have somewhere to convey their disappointment and a forum seems the perfect medium to do so.....

The last comment made (pretty recently) was that last gen consoles will be getting EDO once the PC version had been optimised... It was probably written around 10 days ago..

Don't give me hope.

Yea but dude that was TEN whole days ago. Like a kid watching their parents split up, I need constant reassurance and validation that Frontier still love me!!!

Or at least remember I still exist? 😉

Don't give me hope.
I hoped it might give patience instead.

The same message has been iterated several times since EDO was 'discovered' to be burdened by issues that didn't exist in the main trunk build... It isn't going to change until these minor issues have been addressed, so maybe next Spring or Summer, then an announcement with less vagueness may be made concerning EDO on console.

Do we trust words though? I mean according to the financial report Odyssey's problems were 'connection issues'.. I just want to trust actions now, words would be nice of course but actions speak louder, currently the actions just tell me another weeks delay.
